I had to go fact check that statement about there being more Arabs in Israel than Jews in Europe because I thought there was no way that was true by pure numbers -- by percentage, sure, but I felt that was a misleading way of presenting that data. But nope. It's true.

As of 2024, there were approximately 2.067 million Arabs in Israel, per data collected and researched by the Israel Central Bureau of Statistics and reported on by the Jerusalem Post (https://www.jpost.com/israel-news/article-821800).

Currently, there are approximately 1.898 million people living in Europe who meet any of the following criteria:

people who self-identify as Jewish in social surveys, and do not have another monotheistic religion

all converts to Judaism by any procedure, as well as other people who declare themselves to be Jewish even without having undergone conversion

all people born to at least one Jewish parent (mother or father), whether or not they self-identify as Jews today

non-Jewish household members (spouses, children etc.) of anyone in the above list

As you can see, that's an EXTREMELY generous definition of what constitutes a Jew, and there are still more Arabs in Israel than in the entirety of Europe. I went into this very skeptical and prepared to fact check and correct, because accurate information is really important to me. But this is a real, and mindboggling, statistic.

Another data point worth mentioning: about 9.5 million Jews were living in Europe in 1933.
