Can we PLEASE remove the stigma for blue collar work in America?
“You don’t wanna be a garbage collector when you grow up, do you?”
$34,000 a year, no college needed?
God forbid you take an honest job $7,000 above Michigan’s average cost of living line.
“You don’t wanna be a ditch digger.”
Bitch, I was making $15 an hour, post tax, doing exactly that, the fuck is wrong with it? (Other than it was physically exhausting.)
We need to help America, as a whole, understand that college is not, and should not be he only option, and that there is NO SHAME in trade school or even getting a career right out of high school.
I, personally, know plumbers making $80,000+ a year. Better than most 4 year degree workers.
We need plumbers, janitors, truck-drivers, garbage collectors, machinists, to keep this nation running smoothly. And they deserve respect for what they do.
Miss me with your classist bullshit.
My nephew’s favorite day is trash collecting day. His favorite christmas toy was his garbage truck. The garbage men wave at him every monday morning. It’s almost like without all the bullshit hanging off the back of a big truck all day is pretty cool.
It’s almost like without all the bullshit trade jobs are just jobs that require a specific skill like literally every other job.
I have a job that involves dealing with schools on occasion and I always die a little inside when I’m talking to administration at a school system that has reduced or completely cut all of its vocational training. And plenty have done so. Most have, at best, maybe a nursing program and auto shop class. But the kinds of trades taught in vocational high schools in the past - carpentry, welding, electrician courses etc - have gotten the chop for funding reasons or because the school system didn’t feel they were “worth” offering to students that they wanted to push toward college prep.
Not everyone wants to go to a 4-year university, or can afford it, or can succeed in that environment.
People will always need electricians, plumbers, carpenters and other skilled labor trades, because we will always need water, sanitation, a million things that depend on electricity, and physical structures to live & work in.
The idea that these trades are “inferior” is bullshit - our entire society depends on them. And not everyone is capable of doing them, either, even with training. Lord knows I’d probably lose a hand or electrocute myself if I tried, even with my 4-year college degree.
There is ABSOLUTELY no shame in pursuing vocational training instead of a degree. You can make damned good money and provide for yourself and your family (if you choose to have one) quite well, often in economic situations that put people like me out of a job.
my favorite thing about 101 dalmatians is that, when faced with the realization that there were now 101 dogs in their apartment, their reaction was “i guess we’re gonna need a bigger house” which is entirely illogical and exactly how i would respond in that situation

Zendaya Coleman at the Women’s March in Washington, DC on January 21, 2017.
my issue isn’t that a trans woman spoke in washington, my issue is that a rapist spoke in washington
my issue isn’t that trans issues were included, my issue is that ‘trans rights are human rights’ was yelled through the microphone at the march i went to today before any mention of WOMEN’S rights
my issue isn’t that people speak out about transphobia, my issue is that people are shutting down discussion of reproductive rights with claims of ‘cissexism’
my issue is not with trans people, my issue is with liberal misogyny
Michelle´s Army 2020
A platform of hate and division assumed power yesterday, but the president is not America. His cabinet is not America. Congress is not america. We are America, and we are here to stay. We march today for our families and our neighbors, for our future, for the causes we claim and the causes that claim us. We march today for the moral core of this nation against which our new president is waging a war. He would like use to forget the words “give me your tired, your poor, your huddles masses yearning to breathe free” and instead take up a credo of hate, fear and suspicion of one another. But we are gathered here, across the country and around the world today to say, Mr. Trump:
wow she addressed reproductive rights and was ALSO inclusive of the trans community and WASNT transphobic
HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US, Jaden Smith
PSA though, kids: don’t make jokes about assassinating the pres, especially if you live in a place under US jurisdiction. You can still get in a shitload of trouble, because even if you just mean it as a joke or a shitpost, the authorities will take it seriously
When I was 13 I visited by the Secret Service for allegedly making threats against Bush and let me say that they do not care about the tone or your ‘intent’ and they have wide-ranging powers to act arbitrarily against you.

I have no sympathy for all of the (ex) trump supporters who are JUST NOW feeling regretful. fuck you, fuck your vote, and fuck your decision to jeopardize millions of lives because you wanted to whine about a bunch of emails
