there’s a decent amount of talk surrounding the idea that comics, as we know them, are not a particularly good medium for telling cohesive stories. There will be retcons, there will be disagreeing authors and artists, and even the most lovingly crafted and well thought out run will eventually be undercut by something that comes after it, and will likely be undercutting something before it. This is just a fact of the medium, but honestly, it’s one of the things I love about it- because with this contradiction, with it’s indecisiveness, what we end up when a character has been being written for long enough is a portrait that’s… kind of closer to a person, in imitation, than a lot of other mediums can get to? A comic character’s lifespan can include so many small events and conflicting stories and different arcs and hangups, in way that’s very hard to achieve for a character from a play, a movie, even a standalone graphic novel. It’s a level of detail and layeredness that mimics how a person exists. Lives aren’t contained within a single narrative. They’re different people at different times, they have more experiences than any one person could know about. It’s… I don’t know. It’s just one of my favorite things about the genre

Just thinking randomly about Pre-N52 Dick Grayson knowing/speaking Tamaranean for no reason other than the fact that he was in love with a Tamaranean woman. Tamaraneans can learn languages by touch, this is a normal thing all Tamaraneans can do and it's likely not even a challenge or issue for them culturally to speak or know another languages like it is for humans but he loved her and he learned anyways and I'm just thinking how loved Kory must've felt for that and how much he must have loved her and I just made myself sad over nothing

It’s not lost on me how Jason is the only Robin to come from a life of poverty and crime, and is treated like a fundamentally broken monster in many comic books, given even less grace than Damian. “Something is not right with that boy” FUCK YOU DC. He was twelve years old. Him being slightly agressive because he knew, better than Batman or Nightwing or Barbara, how rotten Gotham was because he GREW UP in that environment did not make him evil or broken.

He just wanted to help people.

KoriBabs is industry plant yuri because the people I've seen shipping it are throwing them together purely under the basis that they have both been in love with Dick. KoriBabs would be toxic yuri to the MAX. Kori would not like Oracle even at all. They would have beef completely unrelated to Dick in any way.

Kori comes from a planet where polyamory is normalized if not expected, she wouldn't think twice about Babs being Dicks ex, and I could see that being a factor for her to pursue a relationship with Babs if she thought that Dick and Babs were still in love with each other. That relationship would fall apart in 10 minutes because Barbara Gordon is a control freak that runs a fuckin pro cop surveillance state and *puts chips in people's brains*. And Koriand'r is a former slave who has fought tooth and nail for her autonomy and freedom and has had several arcs about overthrowing corrupt systems of oppression and control. They are fundamentally at odds on a moral and philosophical level.

I'm not even saying you shouldn't ship it because I do think that theres potential here but you have to understand that the relationship is not healthy even at all and Dick Grayson is barely a factor in their problems with each other. These are both complex and thematically rich characters who oppose each other in pretty much every respect and there is so much you can do with that!! But you have to acknowledge that they are, upon first meeting, not compatible. In order for anything approaching an actual relationship to happen something will have to give and they will have compromise and grow as people or they will fall apart spectacularly and take everyone else down with them, which is interesting and compelling in its own right.

The other thing that pisses me off when it comes to the new batman run is jorge’s art, ik it’s supposed to be pretty but idk something about it makes me cringe, i lowkey like edgier comic art that actually makes a book look like a comic book but tbh that’s just scratching the surface as to why i dislike it, the way he draws women also pisses me off, like where are her organs at lmfao, and they all have the same face, if jorge drew just the silhouettes of every women he has depicted so far with no hair or costume/clothes w/o any colouring, I’d genuinely would not be able to tell who’s who, omg someone shoot me that comic book is making me crash out.
