All of these replies are missing the point: most people will not take these steps to read an article they will simply choose the free one.

It’s such a perfect example of the modern american liberal mindset: there’s a structural problem that impedes people (usually below a certain income) from something important to their lives - in this case knowledge. Instead of trying to remove the structural impediment which would benefit all, they just accept the impediment is an unchangeable fact (or refuse to acknowledge it’s a real impediment) and only offer up inaccessible technocratic “solutions” and partial work arounds which only partially addresses the problem that really only benefits those that are able to jump through the hoops every single time.

Tear down the paywalls. They exist to gatekeep the Dirty Masses from certain publications so their readership can feel intellectually superior and just goes directly into the pockets if people like Jeff Bezos.
