You know, I’ve noticed something about representation in Overwatch.

They don’t make a big song and dance about it. They just insert it into the lore, unannounced.

Symmetra being on the autistic spectrum, Tracer being gay, D.Va having PTSD, Soldier 76 being attracted to men.

These are things that we were shown within the lore, not announced ahead of time to drum up publicity or pander to these demographics.

This is what real representation looks like.

The way they confirmed Jack Morrison as gay was so subtle and well written too Oh my God???? This is so friggin cool Blizzard be out there telling natural stories normalizing the LGBT+ community like that for one of the biggest competative games in the WORLD. Now homophones have to play as a gay man and suck it up because he is NO DIFFERENT than people saw him as before except he loves men (or is bi/pan) and this is AMAZING. Blizzard be out there trying to end gross homophobia in the gaming community HELL YEAH.

of all the possible LGBT confirmations from blizzard, from the most feasible (junkers) to the fan favourites (mchanzo, pharmercy), i never really believed they’d go all in with soldier 76 (or reaper76) because i thought it would be just too big an ask. there was no way we were going to have BOTH the goddamn box art characters be gay. like, the actual FACES of the game? unheard of! UNTHINKABLE! it’s wild even one of the “main” roster is openly not straight. 

but there he is, and here we are, so pardon me if i’m a little fucking excited about it.
