Hello Neil.
My friends and I (11th grade) recently read your short story âOther Peopleâ in English class. The class is locked is currently locked in debate as to whether the demon and the man are the same person, and whether the man who comes in at the end is the same as the man at the beginning. Please resolve this debate as we are on the verge of killing each other.
Thanks you!
I love that literature still has power to make people think and feel and care in this day and age.
Dude, you didn't answer their question.
You are a wonderful writer and I understand how you're relieved in a way but they asked you to resolve this heated debate...and you didn't.
Have a great day.
That's right, I didn't. One way they get to read the text closely and argue and think and have to convince each other. One way they don't because they already have an answer.
I'm good with the choice I made.

i love constantly evolving into a cooler version of myself
btw by cooler i donât mean like. trendier or more conventionally attractive but a version of myself that feels more like an honest representation of myself and all the layers of myself that are shifting as i grow and learn more about myself and the world âŚ. (which makes me hotter.)
me when i cant comprehend that different continents have different animals
the rest of the paragraph that was cut out in that screenshot literally explains the reasons behind the easter bilby and bluntly theyre minimising the impact that wild rabbits have had as an introduced species in our ecosystem.
the easter bibly was an ingenious campaign that builds in social awareness and change to an ongoing annual tradition without detracting from what that tradition represents. the choice behind it was intentional
To clarify we have the Easter Bunny also. The Easter Bilby used to be way more popular when I was a kid, we don't see it around as much now ( :( ) but you can still find it in some books and tv shows and chocolate and soforth.
Not sure why this is considered baffling. Rabbits are an ecological disaster here that should be killed on sight when possible; bilbies are an endangered native animal that needs to be protected. Seems like a pretty logical campaign.
If you live in a country where rabbits and hares are native, Iâm sure they seem like such Normal and Unobjectionable animals that itâs confusing to think of them being genuinely destructive and unwelcome, but thatâs how it is in Australia and to a less emphatic extent New Zealand (where we do have some chocolate Easter Kiwis, thank you Whittakerâs, but bunnies are still more common). It might help to remember that deer are not native here either, and also do a lot of damage and have to be culled. (Look up the Fiordland cryptid moose herd some time.). Most of the Normal Woodland Creatures in Europe and North America either are not found here or are introduced, invasive, destructive species that our native ecosystems did not evolve to cope with.
I mean pre-human settlement New Zealand didnât even HAVE MAMMALS except for two small bats.
#what? just dropping that NZ info at the end?#seriously??
tis true, we're a geographical and evolutionary oddity. It's because of how isolated the country was after splitting off from Australia (we didn't get any marsupials in the breakup). Before the MÄori got here around about 1250 CE and brought dogs and rats, the only land mammals in Aotearoa were these two species of small bats. Everything else was birds, fish, amphibians, reptiles, and oodles of invertebrates.
Every time Sean Astin makes a statement on whether or not Sam and Frodo were indeed gay for each other in lord of the rings heâs always like âwell we have to acknowledge that attitudes around sexuality have changed dramatically over the past several decades and since authorial intent is only up to speculation, the story is open to multiple readings, some of which might have different significances for different groups of people also they kiss on the lips because I said soâ
at the rose city comic con panel this month a fan asked them (sean and elijah) if sam and frodo were in love and they said
Sean: .....yes. absolutely
Elijah: 100 percent.
Sean: dont tell rosie
Rosie: "This is my husband Sam, and that's his husband, Frodo. Frodo is my husband-in-law. I'm not into him, he's he's a bit too 'elfy' for my taste, but Sam likes him, and that's fine with me. As far as I know, Frodo can't give Sam children, but Frodo looks after ours all the same, so I don't mind sharing Sam if it means another pair of eyes on the wee ones. In all honesty, our family tree is right simple compared to some hobbits. Yes, I'm referrin' to you Lobelia, over there pretendin' you ain't eavesdroppin'. Still bitter you ain't got either of my boys or their house, eh?"
tumblr might enjoy this one. humans are cognitively incapable of properly conceptualizing big numbers so itâs important to find other ways to think about just how much money the wealthy have.
Wealth inequality in the United States is out of control. Here we visualize the issue in a unique way.
And people will point out: most of this money is fake. Itâs theoretical. Itâs an idea of how much their investments are worth and it can vanish over night because of âthe marketâ. Theyâre not stockpiling an actual valuable resource somewhere, a kind of vault that we could break into to take their wealth.
But because they have this vast imagined wealth, they can decide which resources are gathered and created, how they are used and how they are distributed. They can decide that we need to build a private jet and not a new clean energy plant. They can decide who gets drinking water.
So when youâre talking about taking that wealth, youâre talking about taking all that power.
Prayer
Every day I want to speak with you. And every day something more important calls for my attentionâthe drugstore, the beauty products, the luggage I need to buy for the trip. Even now I can hardly sit here among the falling piles of paper and clothing, the garbage trucks outside already screeching and banging. The mystics say you are as close as my own breath. Why do I flee from you? My days and nights pour through me like complaints and become a story I forgot to tell. Help me. Even as I write these words I am planning to rise from the chair as soon as I finish this sentence.

Some reasons to read Running With Lions
- The main character is bi (and such a sweetheart)Â
- His love interest is a gay Pakistani boy (whoâs also a sweetheart but with salt)Â
- Lots of queer and poc charactersÂ
- Some of the themes are: islamophobia, homophobia, racism, bullying, fatphobia (all of them handled with respect and sensitivity)Â
- Strong friendship and camaraderie
- Very healthy masculinityÂ
- Adults who actually take care of their kids and are supportive during hard times
- The author seems super nice, seriously check his social medias
- Sometimes itâs good to remember how it was like to be a teenager full of dreams, anxieties, hopes, confused and terrified of the futureÂ
- Because you can still feel all of those things as an adult and thatâs totally ok, âlife is a summer of insecure thoughts. Thereâs an umbrella of precautions to prevent insecurity, but it doesnât always keep the rain out of your faceâ. Just remember to keep running. At your pace. It will be worth it.

Soup
Hot hot soup
fuck if itâs this easy why do they close the goddamn road for like five months shit
all outta soub :(
I work for the road crew in the summer. Crack sealing (the process you see above) is fairly quick and simple. (Though holding a hose that pumps literal tons of 350F tar into the road in the middle of the summer is NOT easy)
I think what a lot of people underestimate is just how much road there is in your city. And just how many directions the crew gets pulled.
For our city of around 50k people there are 8 of us.
Also, crack sealing is a wholly temporary measure, meant to slow the break-up of the roads, itâs not a permanent fix.
Roads tend to get closed for months on end because we have to tear the whole thing up, then, depending on the class of road, we either have to hammer-drill into concrete to lay rebar and the pour concrete, or we can get straight to paving. If itâs a road requiring concrete weâre required to wait at least 24 hours for it to set.
So after 2 days weâre finally able to pave. But the city allocates one (two if weâre lucky) 5 ton truck to transport material.
A relatively short paving job requires at a minimum of 60 tons. So thatâs 12 trips to the asphalt factory and back. Each ton is around $80.
TL;DR
Thereâs a lot of road, not many of us, and soup is expensive.
Leave the soup men alone.
Leave the soup men alone, and go vote for people who will pay for more soup and more soup people
Giethoorn in Netherlands has no roads or any modern transportation at all, only canals. Well, and 176 bridges too. Tourists have to leave their cars outside of the village and travel here by foot or boat by. So you can probably imagine how peaceful it is here.
when youâre out at a restaurant or a coffee shop or a target or whatever with your friends and you overhear/eavesdrop the same snippet of some strangerâs conversation, and you look at each other for a second to check that you both heard this stranger say the same weird/funny/baffling thing and just break out in knowing grins and quiet laughter⌠thatâs a love language
I was eating alone at a mexican restaurant once and a group of college kids were chatting over tortilla chips. There was some jabber and then..
â ..we had to climb over the bob wire!â
âDude, did you just say âbob wireâ?â
âYea man, that spiky shit!â
âYou actually think itâs called bob wire? Like fucking Robert wire? You think itâs called Robert wire?â
âWell what the hell do you think itâs called?â
âItâs BARB wire you idiot! Like Barbara wire!â
*the third guy* âOh my god. You guys. BARBED wire. Because the wire has barbs, it is BARBED.â
âOohhhhh!â
âFucking Robert and Barbara wire. Fuck you guys.â
This guy, he is beautiful
