Tonight I made a yellow cake with chocolate icing. It was my birthday, and I like making this cake; it’s the same kind of cake my mom would make every year for me as a kid. It’s easy, just boxed mix and canned icing. It’s comfort, nostalgia, but it never quite tasted the same.

Well tonight I made a few changes based off of a recipe I had seen going around, and wouldn’t you know it, the cake came out tasting exactly like my momma’s. So much so that it brought tears to my eyes when I took the first bite. There isn’t a week that goes by that I don’t miss her, and the longer she’s gone the sweeter the feeling is when I find her memory again.

In honor of that, here’s what I did:

Preheat oven to 315 Fahrenheit (yes. I know that’s low. Trust me) while you’re preparing the ingredients.

Of course it helps if your wet ingredients are at room temperature, but if they aren’t you’ll live.

Using a yellow cake mix (we use Duncan Hines), ignore the ingredients list on the back and use

4 eggs

1 stick of melted butter

1 cup of milk

splash of vanilla extract.

Mix as normal. Pour into a 9x11 baking pan. Bake at 315 for about 35 minutes, until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.

Let cake cool completely. When cooled, melt chocolate icing in microwave at 15 second intervals until pourable (not hot, just enough to pour over cake). Pour can over cake and use a knife to spread evenly. Pop it in the fridge for at least 20 minutes.

Casual reminder tha golf courses account for 14% of the daily usage of water for the entire USA. Golf courses are deeply unethical and should been seen as such.

The only way I am okay with Golf is if we cut off all but minimal graywater use and the entire point of each golf course is the Native Terrain. "Sure you've golfed St Andrews, but you'd never be able to handle Las Vegas. They have cactuses. And it's all rocky desert floor. 大白兔奶糖(dabaitu naitang)/White Rabbit Creamy Candy is one of China’s most iconic nostalgic milk candies. The iconic red‑blue‑white wrapper of White Rabbit Creamy Candy was finalized in 1959. Its vintage‑styled wrappers are widely admired online, and the brand now rolls out new flavors and IP collaborations. 金丝猴奶糖(jinsihou naitang)/Golden Hair Monkey Creamy Candy is another beloved classic Chinese milk candy from the 1990s. Wowo Creamy Candy also officially launched in 1991 and blew up in popularity throughout the 1990s. Together with White Rabbit and Golden Monkey, it formed the big three iconic domestic milk‑candy brands. Its signature wrapper bears a brightly colored rooster. i wanna say "they should be allowed to kill people" about my favorite characters except the issue is that many of them either fall into:

Being nonviolent is an important part of their character, and while it's interesting to ponder what could drive them to feel vindication or relief through violence, them doing so can't truly be construed as a positive development

They already do kill people, in fact it is their hobby and passion

This is one of those artist moments that was a mystery to me, but now I’ve reevaluated on my prior knowledge.

A photographer/artist called Shitanda created this piece— “Presence and absence— Joel 2021” in 2021.

Someone once before suggested that Oliver Clegg was inspired by or even took the piece and made it his own. At the time, I was willing to believe this. Clegg’s painting is allegedly from 2019.

Then I thought if any inspiration was taken, though, it truly was that Oliver Clegg was the original and Shitanda was the one inspired. Mostly because Shitanda was born in 1997 and Clegg in 1980, and has been “in the game” longer as an artist. Both pieces debuted publicly in 2021.

Would it be considered plagiarism if one was proven to have been “first”? Every artist’s journey involves imitating others, and every artist would be nothing without inspiration. And yet to place it in a gallery or feature it in a magazine… has anyone done this for their alterations on an imitation Van Gogh? Maybe so. I’m not sure, but it seems plausible, and yet maybe an artist would hesitate to call that their own work that they want to showcase. And what if the gallery is instagram? Then it seems more reasonable.

Would it be wrong? Food for thought.

But one more damning thing— the cat’s foot. So was the painting really made in 2019?
