I feel like the SoC fandom tends to dull down Inej a little bit. Because while yes, she is more moral than Kaz, and she has fought hard to keep her compassion and kindness intact whereas he rejected his, and she’s more openly warm, I think we often forget just how vicious and clever and morally gray she is as well.
She cried when she first killed someone, yes, but she didn’t let it stop her from pursuing her freedom.
SHE GOT A FUCKING BUTCHER TO CUT OFF HER TATTOO FROM THE MENAGERIE WITH ONLY A MOUTHFUL OF WHISKEY FOR THE PAIN.
She climbed a furnace not just for Kaz, but for her own ambition, because she had something she wanted, she found a purpose and she wouldn’t let weakness get in her way.
And also keep in mind that goal of hers is to hunt down and kill slavers. Which, like, is so fucking vicious and I love that about her.
When the gang was beating the shit out of Kaz, her whole monologue about ‘piling their bodies to the rafters’ was just as intense as Kaz.
She is the ONLY person to have ever outsmarted Kaz Brekker, truly.
For fucks sake, this is the girl who fought another woman on the roof of a church (or smthn, been a bit since I read that) and when that other girl gave a whole ass speech about how Inej had ‘spilled the blood of kings she wasn’t worthy of that blah blah blah’ Inej our bitch just straight up went ‘okay and?’
Also, this girl has PRIDE. Is she more humble than Kaz? Yeah, but also ‘Ghana’s don’t use nets >:(‘ like excuse me she was just straight up NOT having that.
This girl fights with her teeth, uses her mind and fierce determination to get what she wants, doesn’t always use moral ends, and fought to keep her kindness as well. So yes, she is kind. But she is just as fierce and sharp as Kaz.
