Shoutout to my favorite genre of TOS episode:
sci fi is about one thing and one thing only.....actors throwing themselves around a room to simulate the ship being hit
“i should take a walk for my mental health” boring, tired, i don’t even really wanna do it tbh
“i need to check the perimeter” i need to check the perimeter
How the conversation went in the Writers' Room
And if I said Megamind is one of the few movies that understands Superman.
And if I said Megamind through its three subversions of Superman shows a deeper understanding that the point of Superman is that he was loved and taught to love by good, present parents, and because of that he is able to return that love to a world even if it doesn't always accept it, and he is not corrupted by his power, than many other films either subverting or playing the superman story straight.
Megamind has three Superman subversions. One is obviously Megamind himself. He was not raised loved by the world, but rather was loved by those hated by the world. Because he was still raised with love, he does care about other people, hence his character development. But because he didn't receive wider love growing up, his own is misplaced at first.
Metro Man was not loved growing up in a way that mattered. His adopted father was clearly very absent, and while we don't know much about his family, their relationship seems superficial. Because of this, his sense of duty to the world is also superficial, hence his boredom.
Hal wasn't raised with power. He gained it and was shown how to use it by a 'space dad' who only taught him power and not love. Hence, he sees it only as a grasping means to an end.
All three of these subversions, in their negative space, create the silhouette of the superhero that they are parodying. That silhouette is of a space child that came to earth and was cared for very deeply by the world, and taught love through his experience of love, and because of that holds fast to his duty to the world. Which is Superman.

Happy Pride to Biggs Darklighter
He’s part of the Alliance.
the only time it was actually funny and entertaining when a "ship" was "confirmed" by someone who worked on the show was when someone asked rene auberjonois at a panel what the nature of quark and odo's relationship was and he replied "sexual." without elaboration

Two of the funniest times I've been mansplained to as a femme musician.
1. work term my final year of my diploma, we're doing a high school show, the other singer and I are not only both graduating, we are both working musicians. We're talking to the Sr of the two live sound students as we finish setting up (because we both bring our own mics and mine is kinda hot).
He inturupts by snapping his fingers at us, meaningful eyecontact is made between the three of us talking and the teacher next us bc wtf. He then procedes to explain to us, at a speed and tone that suggest we might not speak english, how monitors work and how to signal for monitor adjustments.
And honestly might have given the benefit of the doubt there if he hadn't already shadowed sound for another band both of us were in. Bonus, our monitors were useless because he didn't look up from the ipad once the entire set
2: On threads someone asks if there's science behind hating hearing recordings of your voice. I'm a voice teacher, a session vocalist, I've taken classes in live sound and studio recording, AND my degree is in music therapy, I have the experience and education to answer this. So I give the most basic least nerdy/overwhelming answer: the voice you hear in your head spunds different than the voice your phone records, both have more of different overtones so it creates a kinda uncanny valley effect.
Dude pops in specifically to tell me how often he's been mic'd and how impossible my answer is and I must be dumb bc his voice on stsge or in the studio doesn't sound remarkably different. This man is a visual artist and motivational speaker who doesn't do his own sound.
So he gets the nerdy answer, I explain EQing, overtones, how different resonances, how you use your voice, the type and quality of the microphone affect which overtones are prominent and how speaking makes less use of these things and is less subjective than how we hear our singing voice. I offer to give him my sources if anything is unclear.
He called me pedantic and blocked me.

okay so spock (the alien in blue) essentially goes into heat. like literal heat like an animal. Anyway, spock’s in bloodlust in this episode and must go back to vulcan to have sex with his finace (or someone. but its supposed to be his fiance) or he’ll literally die. this is called pon farr and some backstory spock is half human and thought he wouldnt go through pon farr so he abandoned his HOT fiance to fuck around in space except oops pon farr happens so. he and kirk (in yellow getting his tits cut open, he’s also spocks captain and best friend) and their other friend mccoy go to vulcan so he can have sex with his fiance or get married or whatever so he doesn’t die. but then spock’s fiance (t’pring) is like no i dont want to marry spock i want to have him fight someone to death (which she can do) and spock at this point is fully in the ‘blood lust’ and is basically not in his right mind and doesnt get what’s happening. and t’pring picks kirk to be her ‘champion’ in the fight (her logic is that if spock dies in the fight she doesnt have to marry him and if kirk dies, spock will be so upset with her he won’t marry her anymore anyway). anyway kirk doesnt know that its a fight to the death and so he’s like of course i’ll do this fight if it’ll help spock and then he gets told it’s a fight to the death and he goes WHAT and right afterwards spock slices his titties open like in the gif. also eventually spock and kirk roll around in the sand and kirk fakes his death and THIS somehow knocks spock out of his blood lust and he goes back to the ship super sad bc he’s killed his ‘best friend’ only to discover kirk’s alive and we see one of his biggest smiles of the series (a big deal bc spock is vulcan and they dont show emotion). anyway this aired as the season opener in 1967. know your history and all that happy pride
