But still there’s nothing wrong with a strong female character having a love interest. There’s also sucj thing as friends to lovers trope - and its alsp heavily implied in the tfa novels that rey also has feelings for Finn. Do people seriously think she was going to profess love for him that damn quickly? So “she has to be single to be strong” is a very reasonable understanding of what you were saying to us, regardless of whether it was what you -meant- to communicate, and I agree with @atheistj that it is a rather unhealthy message. I’m married, and I’m a very strong and independent person. I believe very strongly that love (real, healthy love) strengthens us and causes us to become more comfortable in our own identities. It does not make us weak or dependent. I hate that old phrase “a woman with a [insert preferred noun] is like a fish without a bicycle”. I don’t want to be a fish without a bicycle. I want to be a fish who loves another fish.

Unless what you meant was “in order to not need a relationship, she shouldn’t have a relationship”, which frankly is a circular nonsense statement. Sorry.

Were you, perhaps, trying to convey your distaste at the idea that Rey, a revolutionary female protagonist, could be reduced to the ancillary role of “love interest”, lacking in agency and entirely optional to the plot arc? Because I completely agree, but our fictional ships will have no bearing on that. Disney will do what they’re going to do with no concern whatsoever for the fanfiction people are writing (or what have you). I think that we are all very aware of this- I hope we are, I urge us to be, as I think it deescalates the conflict to remember our own insignificance to the canon. But I digress: Shippers are engaging in fictional exploration of hypothetical character dynamics. It has no bearing on canon Rey, if that is your concern.

Finally, as said previously, please stay in your lane. Reylo shippers (not to exclude others, but that is a tag I follow) get enough misplaced posts in the tag urging us to stop engaging in what is really a rather innocuous hobby. The fact that your post didn’t include any harsh insults doesn’t make it more welcome. There are anti tags for these kinds of sentiments.

The negative connotations are that it’s a 21st century movie franchise reboot and people are low-key refusing to believe that a main male character and a male female character are just friends?
