Someone said "Are you really so stupid to think that Africa has the same technological advances as us? If they did they would probably have clean water and not live in houses made of sticks and mud. Get over yourself and stop being so ignorant."..... Below is a tiny collection of images of the Africa they refuse to show you..
ches
I’m sorry you’ve been made to believe that the whole of Africa is poor, I really am..
Reblogging for those of you who think Africa is only what the media and movies portrays it to be
This fucks me up because it’s scary to think that we can be showed something all our lives and not even know it’s a lie
And that my friend is the power of propaganda, indoctrination, and media
Are these pictures of South Africa or of Africa as a whole?
@the-collecting-turnip From top to bottom:
1. Port Elizabeth (South Africa)
2. Unknown
3. Nairobi (Kenya)
4. Pretoria (South Africa)
5. Aburi Botanical Gardens (Ghana)
6. Cape Town (South Africa)
7. Pretoria (South Africa)
8. Harare (Zimbabwe)
9. Windhoek (Namibia)
10. Windhoek (Namibia)
To @kushandwizdom this is a rather unfair portrayal of Africa as a whole since half of these are literally just South Africa. So Instead to add to this post and better dispel the myth of Africa as the vast wasteland of poverty most people think, I found a much more mixed collection of pics from various countries.
Luanda, Angola
Agadir, Morocco
Lagos, Nigeria
Cairo, Egypt
Port Louis, Mauritius
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire
Algiers, Algeria
Tripoli, Libya
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Tunis, Tunisia
So, there, a much better case demonstrating the various major cities around Africa showing it isn’t some technologically backwards continent, but actually pretty up-and-coming in the world of commerce.
I once was talking to my Ethiopian manager about ignorant people asking her dumb shit about her life before she moved to the states…
the worst story she told me about was when she told a fellow student (at a fairly prestigious university) about a concert she went to back home. The other student responded with “omg you have music there!?” 🤦🏾♀️
Rebloging, because we need to see these pictures.
As for stupid questions: “do you have grocery stores in Ecuador?”
These are great!
A redneck neighbor once asked my mom (in the 80s) if they had cars in Peru. Sigh.
This is the product of poor world history in school & little current affairs coverage outside Western Europe, except for catastrophes, so all we see are the war torn, poverty stricken, disaster-affected parts on the news. And racism, of course.
I bet most Americans who think that African countries are just completely poverty stricken have no idea what the US looks like in its poorest areas, not everywhere in the US is nice suburbs or unrealistically large apartments on tv
Los Angeles, California
Hartford, Connecticut
New Orleans, Louisiana
Camden, New Jersey
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
McDowell County, West Virginia
Flint, Michigan
Washington, D.C.
Do you see the world as it is, or as someone told you it is?
This photoset proves you can make anywhere look great or terrible. It’s all framing and more people should know about that
Worth a reblog. I don’t think the US version was on there when I first reblogged.
My first Michael and Alex video. I love them ❤️❤️
I have no words ❤️❤️❤️
Billie Joe Armstrong literally wrote a song about coming out as bisexual as a teenager, and then like two years later wrote one that was pretty much all about dressing up in drag and getting fucked by/fucking guys, and y'all STILL say he’s a “straight ally” because he married a woman??
The same goes for Freddy Mercury and David Bowie. Both were openly bi. Both wrote (multiple) songs about their queerness. Both are pigeonholed as either “gay” or “straight”. They were both neither of those things.
hey remember when freddy mercury wrote a literal song about wanting to be allowed to be bisexual without it being a big deal and was incredibly obvious about it and then straighties went “oh lol look at how quirky queen is writing a song all about bicycles!”
This also happened to p!nk, she’s openly bisexual but since she’s married to a man and has had two babies with him, people say that she’s straight.
Like, yeah she does a lot and shows a lot of support for the LGBT+ community but she isn’t just an ally, she’s part of that community.
Biphobia is completely real and so many Bi wlw and mlm are assigned the “straight” role when they just ARENT.
Also let’s add Lady Gaga to the mix. She’s repeatedly shit on for Born this Way for not being part of the community when she is, in fact, openly bisexual and writes song about being LGBT
[Image 1: the “It’s free real estate” guy with the altered caption “It’s Biphobia”
Image 2: a picture of Chris Fleming with the altered caption “Okay, was anybody going to tell me that ‘Bicycle Race’ was about being bi or was I just supposed to learn that from a post about Billie Joe Armstrong myself?” End ID.]
remember, straight-passing bisexuals are still bi. saying otherwise even if you’re lgbtq+ is no different from straight people who are “okay with gay people as long as they’re quiet about it”. bisexuals are queer not only because they’re attracted to their own gender, but because they’re attracted to several. celebrate and cherish bi identities. they are so important to the community.
I don’t reblog much, but this is too well said not to.
This always gets a reblog.
Too fucking true.
Keep going!
Also, click the image! It’s transparent!

One thing that pisses me off a lot is the fact that the world is not made for single people. Ignore the fact that everyone and their dogs think it's wrong not to want a partner, I'm talking about practical things.
I'm talking about rent and mortgage in a city like London with only one salary. Yes, it's exactly as hard as you can imagine. Not easy on a single salary unless you're senior management level, want to commute two hours each day, or you are lucky enough to have your landlady be your best friend. Or you don't mind living in a shoebox pretending to be a studio. Otherwise, you'll be in a shared house.
I'm talking about holiday and travel, where either you go to hostel dorms of pay double price for a room in most hotels. And there are no packages for one, or barely any, and they are in singles holidays where the objective is not so much travel but stop being single.
I'm talking about doing shopping and producing more food waste than I'm comfortable with because everything comes in bigger portions than one person can reasonably eat. Even with freezing more than half of everything there will still be something that goes off because you were too slow to eat it if you do shopping once a week. Or you have to go shopping every couple of days and eat the same those two days.
It's not enough to have all media telling you you're wrong for not wanting a relationship, the entire world will try to push you into forming one by making it too expensive to be single.

I don’t care how many times I see this I will always reblog it
Stop spending money on war and lies and start spending it on ways to make this planet better.
I saw someone’s argument against trying to stop global warming and it was literally “What if global warming is fake and we make the world a better place for no reason?”
I knew that my contry was hot … but not that much
I find it fascinating that people who choose not to have children are generally assumed to feel really strongly about not having children (or even to feel really strongly against children, anyone’s children, in general). I am probably not going to have children, not because I REALLY REALLY HATE the idea of having children, but because I don’t really really love it. Out of all the major decisions I will make in my life, this one is the only irreversible one. I can sell a house, quit a job, divorce a spouse, whatever. I cannot unhave a child. I cannot opt out of being a parent once I become a parent. I can’t even take a step back for the sake of self-care or whatever, or else my child will suffer.
So for me, having children is fuck yes or not at all. The default will be to remain childfree. Having children should be an opt-in decision, not an opt-out one. Until/unless I develop really strong feelings about wanting to have children, I won’t have them, even if that means I never end up having them at all.
Sometimes you just come across something that puts into words what you have yet been unable to.
Yes, yes, YES. This is what I think exactly.
In recent years I’ve been calling out those assumptions, too, that childless people must all HATE CHILDREN SO MUCH, because it’s a cruel, awful cultural trope. People must once again make a false choice on another arbitrary binary. You’re not permitted to simply like children but recognize you do not wish to parent; you must either PERFORM PARENTING or else you HATE KIDS.
(And it’s completely understandable why young people, especially young women, play into this cultural trope. The incredible weight of cultural pressure from everywhere, constantly, all the time, makes you snap out the answer – since I’m not ready to have a child this very instant, fine! Clearly I hate them. I myself felt very pressured to perform this in my twenties, even though I was in no fit state to parent.)
It’s understandable, but it’s so, so sad, because children benefit so much from loving, connected aunts and uncles and non-gender-normative role models invented in their lives, taking on some of that heavy burden from the parent (who, as pointed out, cannot opt out, not ethically). It further widens the divide between parents and non-parents. I’ve even seen parents perform some vestiges of this, “Oh, ha ha, I mean, I like MY KID, but I hate kids…” Fine– sure– maybe you are the Very Special Adult Who Hates All Children (Except Yours), and it isn’t simply that children can all be draining (because they are, in fact, children)… but who is culturally benefiting from your performance of Hating Children? Of loudly announcing it? Of re-inforcing that the only way to tolerate or love children is within the mandatory confines of a nuclear family? Let’s normalize Liking Children for non-parents. Let’s normalize having a community of loving, concerned adults who COULD very easily opt out of a child’s life… but stay by choice. Let’s support the parents who make the choice, and understand those who don’t might have different goals in their lives. But let’s support CHILDREN wherever we may find them. That’s what Mr. Rogers would do.
Yes. This 🙌

“What is my life for and what am I going to do with it? I don’t know and I’m afraid. I can never read all the books I want; I can never be all the people I want and live all the lives I want.”
