I've been missing a month or so...
I’ve been missing a month or so…
December is a busy month for most people I hear.  Nothing new there.  For us it was extremely busy and challenging financially.  Our businesses is having a downturn and we’ve had to lay off a staff member and cut the hours for the other, however, the workload is just the same, if not busier.  This has meant we’ve had to put in 7 days a week, juggling the finances, running two farms, three kids on…

3rd of Advent - Let's make Gingerbreads
3rd of Advent – Let’s make Gingerbreads
So another week has flown by and yesterday was 3rd of Advent, which means there are only 2 more Sundays left before Christmas.  We went out and did a little bit of Xmas shopping in the afternoon. This year we have left it a bit late.  Like very late.  Actually, we only just started the shopping yesterday.  The shops were not that busy, I find where we live now, it really never gets as crazy as…

Snowy Rocky Road
Seriously. Who Can Resist Rocky Road?  I just love it, but only ever make it at Christmas time for some reason.  We like to make both the traditional milk chocolate rocky road as well as using white chocolate, simply because the white looks so snowy and pretty. This is how I make it (which is pretty much the same as milk chocolate version, but with Desiccated Coconut sprinkled on top) A packet or…

Blue, Green & Lemon Baby/Lap Quilt
Blue, Green & Lemon Baby/Lap Quilt
I finished this quilt last night.  This quilt can either be for a baby or an adult as a lap quilt, or just hang nicely over a chair.  The colours used are mostly low volume prints, mixed in with a few stronger colours for contrast.  I have used fabrics from some of my all time favourite designers such as Amy Butler, Urban Chics, Lotta Jansdotter, Michael Miller, Heather Bailey and Sandra…

The Build Up to Xmas
The Build Up to Xmas
For me, the build up to Christmas, is always nicer than just that one day in December.  I really enjoy the decorations, the smell of the tree, wrapping presents and the baking.  I tend to stagger the baking, not all the things I love at Christmas has to be consumed on Christmas Day, I rather have lots of little treats throughout December.  This weekend I am making Rocky Road , that’s the second…

My Next Sewing Project
My Next Sewing Project
In the middle of the Christmas rush I try to get up early, around 5am, light a candle, turn on some music and do a little bit of sewing.  It’s a nice way to start the day and I find I get a fair bit done in those two hours before the day really starts.  I have selected fabrics for my next quilt, all in blues, greens & lemony yellow.  I hope it will turn out like I imagine it will.  Â

2nd of Advent
Last night was the 2nd of Advent, so the countdown continues to Christmas.  Only 3 more Sundays until the big day.  Wow!  That’s not long and I have hardly started buying presents and need to start writing out a big list of everything that I need to organise or else it will get too overwhelming.  This week I’m going to start on some of yummy foods I like to make at Christmas time, such as…

In Sweden you can buy Mulled wine easily, but not here in Australia.  Luckily, IKEA, sells their version of Swedish Mulled Wine, so I always stock up with a few bottles and sometimes enjoy a glass in winter time (June/July/August) when it’s cold, wet and dark.  I heat it up in a saucepan, careful not to bring it to boil, add some almonds & sultanas and serve in small cups or glasses.
I couldn’t resist to buy this bottle of Smirnoff GOLD – Cinnamon Flavoured Liqueur.  It just looks so pretty with Gold flakes floating around in the bottle.  Perfect for New Years Eve – to add a little BLING to the glasses!

Today I finished this little scrappy Baby /Lap Quilt that I have been working on this week.  This quilt measures 80cm x 105cm or 32”x 42” and would make a beautiful gift for a baby girl or lap quilt for an adult. It’s modern and bright, handmade with 100% quilting quality cotton, 100% cotton batting and thread.  I have listed it for sale in my Etsy store which you can find here!
Some of the Fabric designers used in this quilt are: Alexander Henry, Denyse Schmidt, Amy Butler, Aneela Hoey, Heather Bailey, Heather Ross, Urban Chics, Moda, Riley Blake & Lotta Jansdotter. Â It features pictures of dogs, fish, birds, apples, pears, bicycles, flowers and polka dots.

What 5am Sewing Looks Like
What 5am Sewing Looks Like
I’ve always been a morning person.  I love getting up when it’s still a little dark outside, light some candles, brew some coffee, sit on my computer for a little while or start sewing.  That peace is just to die for.  Once 7am comes along, the magic is all gone in this household.  That’s when I wake up three tired & grumpy kids (especially at this time of the year), all bumping in to one…

All I Want For Christmas Is You
All I Want For Christmas Is You
I love the little things around Christmas.  A cute little Pixie, an old candle holder, little Santas placed around the house, fairy lights.  Like this two candle holders.  The one above in gold says ”All I Want For Christmas Is You”.  I bought this one from LARK last Christmas and I love it, they still sell it – only $8.95 –  you can find it here.  The candle holder in the photo below is an old…

Coconut Lemon Slice
I love Coconut Lemon Slice and the fact it’s a no-bake slice, makes it a perfect sweet to prepare & enjoy on hot summer days. Enjoy! Ingredients 1 cup Sweet Condesened Milk (I use a whole 395g can) 200g Butter 500g Granita Biscuits 2 cups desiccated Coconut 4tsp Lemon Rind (2 lemons are plenty)…

Baby Quilt
I finished cutting my latest project yesterday morning and starting piecing it together.  It is the first project I have done in my new Sewing Room and it felt good!  I feel inspired in there and finally a spot that I can just walk away from and not have to see the mess when I’m not sewing.
