This caption is not actually correct, the fawn and bobcat were not found in an office together cuddling after a forest fire. The bobcat kitten was found first incredible dehydrated a week prior and then the 2009 Jesusita forest fire occurred and the rescue then had to deal with a huge flood of animals. Animal Rescue Team was saving as many animals as they could, but because of the massive number of animals they ran out of space and didn’t have any choice but to temporarily place the two together while they were running more rescues.

Usually, you would never house these two species together, but when in an emergency situation with literally nowhere else to put them, the rescue had to do it. Luckily for them, the 3 week old kitten and 3 day old fawn quickly bonded in their dire circumstance and several very cute photos were taken before the two were separated to be raised separately for release once the situation had cleared up and there was space for the fawn.

Learning the whole story also means that you get to find out that there are more photos!!

the media coverage of jason arday has been fucking shocking and even worse than I was expecting it to be. no journalistic integrity to be seen. the telegraph produced multiple pages of search results on it. it was the front page of the guardian for DAYS (not, mind you, the wildfires that are also happening) yet nobody has managed to get a comment from paula zwozdiak-meyers, the person whose work was allegedly plagiarised. none of these racist bullies seem to have even read his work.

I can’t claim to be an expert on him, we’re in different disciplines, but I have read Cool Britannia and Multi-Ethnic Britain: Uncorking the Champagne Supernova. and it is good. better than good, it’s fun, which is quite a feat for an academic work.

anyone whose been in academia in the last five years knows that plagiarism is a growing issue (caused in no small part by access to ai and likely the cost of living crisis incentivising short cuts) but shit like this, literally hounding a man to death, cannot and will not be how the issue gets resolved. I went to two of the universities he taught at. they’re toxic, deeply competitive environments and symptomatic of the larger structural problems in academia. it chews up and spits out talented people like Arday, and leaves them out to dry.

(by the by, this ^ wasn’t on tumblr) but TO BE HONEST now that I think on it, even Percy has more opportunities to be unreliable because of the way his narration is told (fourth-wall-breaking past tense) … Katniss is all present tense, which makes her less likely to be obfuscating or misleading, imo … and like, her information is hardly ever *wrong* … she just isn’t omniscient and she’s awful at self-reflection … that doesn’t make her unreliable
