as a leftist tumblr my most upsetting encounters here have been with tankies/stalinists who have down right denied the mass murder of many ethnic minorities during the great purges. don’t cry about “usa propaganda” to us when the censorship in our countries was done by the soviet union. the fucking nerve of these people who have never lived in ex-russian or ex-soviet countries. do you have any idea how much research it has taken to even find these mass graves or do the actual identification of the victims? it’s still on-going progress and there are still many russians (and other people) whose families haven’t gotten the closure.

I've decided to write this for the mere possibility of saving someone's life, not just from Ukraine, these guidelines will help you if you ever find yourself under bombing/rocket/missile threat.

1. It is important to know where the attack is coming from, that is, the general direction (north, south, east etc.), and, if known, how much time do you have in order to reach safety. This information will be helpful for the next steps.

2. Your best option is always A SHELTER. Some European underground railway stations classify as ones.

3. If you don't have a shelter/can't reach one fast enough - find a stairwell, like the one in multi-story buildings, climb at least two floors up from the entrance or two floors down from upmost floor. STAY AWAY from windows, glass coating or any openings.

4. Can't get to a stairwell? Opt for the innermost, most window-less room of your house. If your know the direction of the attack find the room that meets the requirements above farthest away from that direction. Again, stay away from windows, glass objects or anything that might fall or shatter in case of explosion.

5. If you are out in the open and can not reach any of the above, lie flat on the ground, facing away from the direction of the attack, hands over (protecting) your head. It is important to remain like this even in a case of nearby explosion - explosion wave thrust goes up, lying on the ground might protect you from debris and projectiles.

6. If you find yourself under attack while driving, safely pull over and follow options 2-5.

7. DO NOT. Under no circumstances. Emerge from your place of shelter before official state authorities gave a clear.

Some of these instructions are very simple, but can and will save you! Stay alert, be prepared, follow official authorities' guidelines, and most important, protect yourself and stay safe.

Being genuinely anti-imperialism, anti-colonialism, etc. means that you're that way across the board, no matter who is doing it. You don't whitewash the Ottoman Empire or Japanese imperialism just because they weren't "white" in an American sense (and in Japan's case, buy into their own propaganda, as they used the specter of Western imperialism to justify what they did to other East Asian/Pacific countries). You don't make excuses for modern Russia trying to take over Ukraine or other sovereign natures in Eastern Europe. If you truly believe in self-determination then it doesn't matter who is trying to prevent that. This shouldn't be hard, right?

Putin went on Russian television today saying that Ukraine belongs to Russia because it was Russian territory during the days of the empire. There's absolutely no anti-imperialist theory that would applaud him for that. None.

It really says something about how the people suggesting otherwise don't get that there are real people involved, that it's not just a discourse game.

Like at the end of the day the biggest reason I'm against imperialism/colonialism is that, historically, being controlled by another country tends to mean fewer human rights and more atrocities toward the people in the occupied country. Which is 100% in keeping with Russia's history w/r/t Eastern Europe.

a garbage man ran out of the bushes in front of my car, which is fine because I’m used to deer on that road and was already driving carefully, but I’m so used to deer that instead of like, watching the truck to see if he was crossing again I watched the bushes he’d come from in case there were like. 1-2 smaller, frailer garbage men following him I guess.
