People who are hard on yourselves: may I humbly offer you the 100 floors of frights philosophy?
In the SNL David S. Pumpkins sketch, a couple is on a ride called "100 Floors of Frights," where they see a different scare on each floor, and at one point they complain about many of those floors being lame. And then Kenan Thompson delivers this line of deep philosophical wisdom: "Hey lookāit's 100 floors of frights, they not all gonna be winners."
My husband and I use this line all the time to give ourselves grace. For instance, I'm a good cook, but when I make a dinner that doesn't turn out well, I will literally say out loud, "It's 100 floors of frightsāthey're not all gonna be winners," or just "Look it's 100 floors of frights."
It just means when you do a thing a whole lot, there's bound to be some instances that are bad. You don't have to be good at the thing 100% of the time. You can't be good 100% of the time. Some of the 100 floors are gonna suck. It doesn't negate your skill at creating the rest of the 100 floors.
You can use this for anything: art you make, performances, school assignments, days at work, outfits, sex sessions, literally anything that you are too hard on yourself about when it doesn't go great. Listen to Kenan Thompson and remember that it's impossible for them all to be winners, and that's okay.
I haven't seen dancing pumpkin guy ONCE this year, are you guys okay?
FINE! I'll do it myself
Why did 12 people reblog this today??? IT IS ONLY AUGUST!!!
IT'S HALLOWEEN.
gotham is exactly the right amounts of wet and socioeconomically unstable to have spawned an INSANE grunge scene you just know their local shit is like the sonic equivalent of getting hit over the head with a car battery
bruce wayne has his finger on the pulse of gotham's underground music scene he's like "listen to this" and he puts on a cassette he bought for $10 from a guy under a bridge and its like 90 minutes of some guy crooning in a flooded warehouse with a guitar amp they found in the river and there's active gunfire in the background of half the songs
gotham grunge band "arkham fire" debut album "DYING ALL THE TIME" becomes the world's first snuff record because their guitarist is killed by the joker in the middle of the fifth track and it is unequivocally considered their best song
Professor Timothy Snyder posted that people are waking up and Trump's attempted oligarchical coup is fading.
If you have read about fascism and tyranny or watched cable news, you have probably seen Professor Timothy Snyder, who has been warning about Trump and tyranny for a few years now.
Snyderās book On Tyranny is one of the go-to modern works for people who want to understand tyranny and how to fight it, so what Professor Snyder posted on his X account on Saturday merits attention.
Snyder posted:
Something is shifting. They are still breaking things and stealing things. And they will keep trying to break and to steal. But the propaganda magic around the oligarchical coup is fading. Nervous Musk, Trump, Vance have all been outclassed in public arguments these last few days. Government failure, stock market crash, and dictatorial alliances are not popular. People are starting to realize that there is no truth here beyond the desire for personal wealth and power.
Professor Snyderās perception is backed up by a mountain of polling that shows the country turning against Donald Trump in increasing numbers. If polling isnāt convincing, consider the large and growing number of almost daily protests directed at what Trump and Musk are doing.
There are also results. When the public gets angry and speaks out, the Trump administration has caved.
Actual fascists donāt allow their opposition to speak out. A real authoritarian doesnāt cave. When pressure is applied to the Trump administration, it breaks. The reason why it breaks is successful authoritarian movements have a majority of the population behind them.
Trumpās support is sinking like a stone.
None of this means that the country is out of the woods yet. As Professor Snyder wrote, Trump and his billionaires are going to try and try again, which means that it is going to take constant resistance from the American people to defeat them.
Things will get much easier for pro-democracy Americans if Democrats win control of the House in special elections this year or next year's midterm election.
Until then, it will be a grassroots battle.
The good news is that Trump is losing, and so far, Americans are fighting for their democracy.

Fic idea I was struck with the other day and keep thinking about: a Vulcan adopts a cat.
Still thinking about this, even though Iām not writing the fic!
This Vulcan, Iām calling her TāPen, goes to a shelter and gets a cat, and the shelter employees are like, a bit weirded out? But obviously theyāre going to give her a cat, I mean, sheās a Vulcan, sheās Super Responsible, she takes all the pamphlets and listens attentively to all the advice the shelter employees give her, even though it is obvious she researched a lot on her own.
Then TāPen asks the shelter folks what she should name the cat and runs into That Thing Humans Do Where They Confound a Vulcan With Their Weird Ways
Shelter Employee 1: oh, you can name a cat anything! Thatās whatās great! People names, common nouns, whole phrases.
Shelter Employee 2: yeah, nothing sounds weird on a cat. Everything from Chad to Cupboard is fair game.
SE 1: yeah, I mean, you canāt call a dog Chad, that would be weird
SE 2: I wouldnāt fuckinā trust anyone who named their dog Chad
SE 1: oh word
TāPen:ā¦.
TāPen: ā¦.fascinating.
Later, in the interest of furthering her anthropological study of Earth, TāPen has a houseparty and she invites her coworkers, many of whom are human, but others which are aliens, and are fascinated by TāPenās cat
Vulcan Co-worker: TāPen, what have you named this small Earth feline?
TāPen: I have named him Marmalade.
Vucan co-worker: Is that not the name of a type of Terran fruit preserve? I do not understand the logic behind this choice.
TāPen: the logic is self-evident to a human.
Human Co-worker: TāPen, omg, you have a cat! Whatās his name?
TāPen: thank you for your inquiry. His name is Marmalade
Human Co-worker: oooh! yeah, that makes sense, because heās orange and sweet! lmao, great name
Vulcan Co-worker: ā¦
Vulcan Co-worker: ā¦.fascinating
Human: So, howās Marmalade?
TāPen: He has the peculiar habit of walking on my workstation.
Human: Aggravating, isnāt it?
TāPen: We Vulcans do not feel human emotions. However, I would prefer it if Marmalade stayed off my workstation, particularly when I am working.
Human: Get a box.
TāPen: Murdering Marmalade seems an overreaction.
Human: No, you need a box with interior dimensions approximately the same as Marmaladeās body, and set it on the floor next to your workstation. Marmalade will sit in the box.
TāPen: Why do you believe that this will work for Marmalade?
Human: We donāt know. Itās just something cats do. If he fits, he sits.
TāPen: ⦠Fascinating.
Vulcan Commander: TāPen, you are posting videos of your cat. Explain.
Tāpen: My colleagues are amused and entertained by Marmaladeās interactions with his environment. I am amused and entertained by their reactions as reflected in the comments.
Vulcan Commander (reading):Ā āU haz done me a startleā?
TāPen: Some of them like to verbalize what they believe are Marmaladeās thought processes. He is a cat, so they imagine that he does not grasp human spelling and grammar.
Vulcan Commander: ⦠Fascinating. As you were. (signs off)
TāPen (returning to her meal): Now I can haz lunch.
I need more people to write more bits of this.
The Vulcans going āā¦Fascinatingā is hilarious for some reason.
Itās hilarious because itās the closest they can get to sayingĀ āwhat the fuckā.
Hereās the new 24 hour comic I drew this year!Ā This one is called THE KINGāS FOREST.Ā cw: blood, violence
How the fuck did you make that last panel say so many things without using any words at all thatās so fucking cool.
