So, I have a new proposal on how centaurs work that is both more and less fucked up then all the varieties I’ve seen proposed before. So the big physiology question everyone asks is where the organs are, human or horse half (I’m ignoring taxonomy here and how evolving extra limbs shouldn’t be possible. It’s a fantasy world there’s no reason their evolutionary tree looks like ours) and my response for quite a while is… why does there need to be literally anything in the human half beyond an auxiliary set of lungs at most?
Because if you look at a horse, it’s already running quite the long neck. We’ve all been thinking of the human bit as a torso, but what if it’s just a heavily modified neck? What would demand anything else? Horses already have muscular necks that hold up their massive heads all the time, just slap pure muscle and bone in and all your weird little worries about centaur logical physiology should be solved.
