idk if anyone has addressed this question yet but I was going back through the books and I'm wondering why Jakken Haggar was in Kings landing in the first place, and how/why he was captured and put into the dungeons if he's a faceless man? Thoughts?
Oh, yes, there are actually some really interesting theories about that!Â
Some background first: So, thereâs this book called The Death of Dragons. In ADWD, Tyrion mentions that âthe only surviving copy ⌠was supposedly hidden away in a locked vault beneath the Citadel.â Itâs pretty much accepted that Jaqen is the Alchemist who kills Pate in AFFC, and then later the Pate who Sam meets at the end of that same book. Pate was killed after giving the Alchemist the key to the Citadel:Â
If I pick that up, I am a thief, he remembered thinking. The key was old and heavy, made of black iron; supposedly it opened every door atthe Citadel.
So itâs a solid theory that Jaqenâs entire purpose is the obtain The Death of Dragons, possibly so that the Faceless Men can use the instructions it offers to kill Danyâs dragons (itâs theorized, as well, that the FM are anti-Targaryen because the Valyrians were huge slavers and the FM are very anti-slavery).Â
Now, as for why he was in KL and why he was en route to the Nightâs Watch:Â
"Jaqen Hâghar" could have been in the Black Cells for some reason or another. When he was removed to be transported to the Wall, a Faceless Man took his identity with the intention of getting to the Wall and assassinating someone there.Â
Jaqen was actually arrested, maybe for murder, and couldnât just magic his way out of his cell. So all he could do was wait.Â
As a Faceless Man, he needed to kill someone in the Black Cells, so he allowed himself to be arrested and brought there.Â
Heâs Syrio and Ned and the Prince That Was Promised and also the real Aegon Targaryen.Â
Personally, I think that Jaqen wanted to be brought to the Wall so that he could kill someone there, or even see if their library had a copy of The Death of Dragons. But then all that stuff at Harrenhal happened, so he cut his losses and headed out to the Citadel.Â
