northernblots: Once there was a girl named Jenny. She was like all the other girls, except for one thing. She always wore a green ribbon around her neck.
There's this weird tendency among fandom types where they'll take a character, and insist that they are fans of them, before changing their design, age, pronouns, backstory, blood type, species, hometown, favorite color, zodiac sign, medical history, and every other facet of their being.
They will then violently insist that this version is superior to the canon one and act like they "fixed" them and it's like. Buddy that's not the same character anymore. That's just your own oc commiting identity fraud. Like. I get the desire to experiment with different interpretations of a story. But first of all it's okay to just make an original character if that's what you really want to do. And second of all, are you even really a fan of the character you "fixed" if they're a completely different person afterwards?
Like. Idk dude for somebody who claims to be a fan you sure don't seem to like them as they are :/
Gonna remember "buddy that's not the character that's your OC committing identity fraud."

Fanfic is a great way to practice self-indulgence while writing. It doesnât even have to be good, it just exists purely for your pleasure, be a little freak about it. Worry about quality and what other people think when it comes to works you intend to publish in a formal setting
Okay yeah sure but what if you consider AO3 to be a formal setting?
you show up to AO3 in a pressed suit, polished shoes, briefcase in hand, ready to keep minutes at the four hour discourse meeting.
I drag myself to AO3 in my sweats, no bra, hair up in a thing, hastily shod flip flops, looking for a cheap coffee and a sandwich.
boss pays us the same: 2 kudos each, and one unhinged commenter to share
I just learned that the Russian word for âladybugâ translates to âGodâs Little Cowâ
Itâs the same in Irish! bĂłĂn DĂŠ!
in hebrew itâs âour rabbi mosesâs cowâ
Oh I love this news!!!!
Multiple cultures upon seeing a ladybug for the first time: âWhoâs cow is this????â
It feels like some early humans were naming things and one of them ran out of ideas.
Human 1: (points at animal) Whatâs that?
Human 2: Cow.
Human 1: (points at bug) Whatâs that?
Human 2: ⌠little cow.
Human 1: But itâs so much smaller. Who would have use for such a small cow?
Human 2: (panicking but in too deep to stop now) God.
The âLadyâ in the name âladybugâ is the virgin Mary. People just cannot stop giving religious names to this bug.
The reason for this was that if you lived in an agrarian society then your survival was a throw of the dice every year, depending on the success of the crops. A failed crop year is a very hard year where deaths are expected. And if you grew a cereal like wheat, there were several things that could cause your crops to fail, but one of the big ones was if you happened to get a fuckton of aphids. You know what eats aphids? Ladybugs! If there are lots and lots of ladybugs around, there was a good chance that itâd be a good crop year! They were little crop protectors! When your family lives or dies on the success of that crop, of course theyâd be seen as a blessing and given an appropriate name!
That is such an interesting etymology!!!!
And entomology too i guess
in German theyâre Marienkäfer which also pretty much means âMaryâs Beetleâ
In French itâs âGood Lordâs Beastâ
Not even a cow, itâs just a little Creature but we know for sure God loves it.
In Dutch itâs âLieveheersbeestjeâ, the Good Lordâs Little Beast

Rip Anthony Stewart Head.
Here's an amazing story about him that I read years ago and never forgot.
I'd hoped to meet him at a convention, myself, one day.
Tired: J.K. Rowling supporting a woman with anti-trans views. Wired: Buffy actor Anthony Stewart-Head quietly going above and beyond for his

Ummm she's literally sensitive :/
I saw this on Bluesky, and it's a really handy little tool! Especially if you don't have something like Canva or Photopea or the like available.
And it's set up so you can adjust the spacing between images, add a signature/logo, add the Square Enix copyright, and a lot of other stuff. It handling the auto-spacing for me made me LESS inclined to tear my hair out.
(The bitch looks good, too.)
RIP Marjane Satrapi, author of the amazing graphic novels Persepolis about living during the fundamentalist revolution in Iran in the 70âs and 80âs. She also created the animated movie based on the graphic novels, which is where these gifs come from.

Reblogging in honor of Marjane Satrapi, one of THE great graphic novelists. Her comic Persepolis was a crucial text for shaping my belief that comics can deeply explore identity, culture, politics, and history.
If you EVER think Anthony Head is anything less than an angel then youâd best remember that I have always been a huge fan of his and weâve always had a little contact over the years and he heard Iâd come out as Trans and was having a hard time and that I was kind of sad that the photos I had from conventions with him were of me with long hair and no binder and they were all signed to âSarahâ and so he invited me to spend the day with him at his farm and he picked me up from the station and we just hung out and had lunch and he insisted on paying and took loads of photos and had them printed on photo paper the same day so he could sign them to Jay, along with other photos of him as Giles and Uther and he literally spent five hours chatting with me and got all of the pronoun stuff right every time and then he dropped me off at the station, gave me a final massive hug, waved me through the ticket barrier and insisted I message him when I got home so he knew I got back safe. I always know its getting toasty out in the world because girls start reblogging this post like crazy
about 90% of fanfiction takes place in a utopia where men are thoughtful and unsure of their place in the world
briefly taking my phone out at work and looking at images of my favourite character like im a soldier in the trenches looking at a picture of their loved one back home
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought âwhy do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff,â so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? Itâs alright if you canât because apparently I fuckin couldnât either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you donât need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like letâs say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said âthereâs gonna come a time, probably when youâre a teenager, where youâre gonna think, âI feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I havenât needed it in years.â and youâre gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess whatâs gonna happen then? Youâre gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and youâre gonna be dying again, and weâre gonna have to find you another liver. So donât do that.â And I said âwhy the fuck would anyone do that?â and he said âpeople are stupid.â
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or donât wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think âugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?â and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid
