the end of ch 4 getting so many bad posts to go "not only is toriel not a perfect mom" (true, i think this is textual) "she's also a whore and an alcoholic" ok whoa hey lets chill a bit.

it's so frusturating because you'll get people who are able to pick up subtext like "Toriel is looking down the barrel of empty nest syndrome (divorced, ex moved out, child in college, other child graduating soon) and has a strained relationship with the family her family was once super close to due to some unspecified (for now) tragedy" but instead of following it to the logical conclusion of "she's lonely and isolated and not dealing with it well" will immedialely jump 99 degrees of severity to say something like "is Toriel's relationship with Susie manipulative? just asking questions" while very unsubtly hinting really unsavoury things, with a dash of interpretting random details in the worst possible light of course ("what's so funny toriel?" well, she's drunk??)

good tags, also just want to note something i thought of before but didn’t mention, which is that the way they frame the act of offering Asriel’s bed to Susie as sinister seems to imply that they believe that the appropriate thing to do in this situation was for Toriel to tell two teenagers, one of whom is her child, to share Kris’s bed

So, for everyone confused. These a japanese horse racing gacha game that recently got put on steam called Umamusume: Pretty Derby. Horse racing in japan is apparently massive and people know that the yakuza are fairly deep in that (bc gambling is great for money laundering) and have owned a bunch of the really famous horses. The devs had to get permission from each of the famous horses owners that they put in the game, as the game uses the names and some distinctive features of the real horses. There is also iirc like 3 seasons of an anime for this and maybe some other stuff.

Anyway, basically the devs apparently said to please not make porn of the anime girls based off the real horses, as the yakuza guys may take that very much less than well and send minions to beat you up.

I’ve never once heard this claim from anyone ever. The actual claim I see, over and over, is that the owners of the horses (and whether they are yakuza or not is utterly irrelevant) retain full control over whether or not the devs can use their horses’ names and stories. Thus, in a move pioneered more by the players than the devs, fans hold back on the amount of adult content so that they don’t risk the horse owners taking offence and barring the devs from using the character in future.

Besides, out of all the stereotypes you could pick with regards to Japan, “violent” is quite probably the one that’s died out most in recent years. I don’t think anyone that’s actually even slightly aware of Japanese culture, even the bastardised online version of it, would take this story remotely seriously.
