Stand by Me except Chris and Gordy admit they have crushes on each other
“I thought that by doing so… you would give up your…
You thought I’d give up my feelings for you! How can it be that easy?
Actually, I really loved you at that time. The more we hung out, the more I realized that it would end badly. So I asked Banban a favor. to find you a girl to hang out with… To seduce you. And to see if you could be corrected.
Did you think I have scoliosis or crooked teeth that I needed to be corrected?”
Father. You’ve been in love?
I have seen multiple comments online arguing that Birdy's actions in 'YNEH' was selfserving, and in this post I would like to add my own 2- cent to the conversation.
Birdy did not distance himself from Jia Han out of fear of being ostracized, but instead, his actions were driven by the fear of Jia Han being displaced by society. Everything makes much more sense through this lens...
From the outset of the film, Birdy was never the one to conform nor submit to authority. He never aspired to fit in with the other boys at school, nor was he afraid to retaliate against official figures; he urinated in the dormmaster's car and yelled at the police officers for incarcerating the protestor. Throughout these ordeals, not once did we see Birdy waver under the gazes of others. So why the sudden change in his attitude? It doesn't make sense for Birdy to suddenly forego his relationship with Jia Han when he is relentlessly fearless of the world...
I think a pivotal moment in the film is the scene where Birdy was being chased by a group of Jia Han's friends through the school corridor and here, we could hear one of the boys yell out, "Leave A-Han alone!"
It was this moment where a change took place in Birdy, symbolic through his action of leaping over the balcony. From then onwards, he began to pursue BanBan and encouraged Jia Han to find a girl. Birdy did not do this to protect himself, but instead, to do what he felt was the right thing by Jia Han -- to ensure that the person he loved was able to live a life free from the judgement of the world. To me, this sentiment aligns much more aptly with Birdy's characterisation throughout the exposition of the film.
At the end, while his actions may be that of noble idiocy, to me, it is more noble than it is foolish when viewed against the historical backdrop of 1980s Taiwan where homophobia was rampant. I think Birdy is a character that can easily be misunderstood as the audience did not get to see the story through his point of view. As such, when seeing the film under this light, Birdy transforms from an offbeat character who is erratic and impulsive in his ways to a mature and thoughtful individual who did what he genuinely thought was best for the person he loves. And while this makes the film profoundly sadder, it is also a much more lovely sentiment.
Note: I have not read the novel nor seen the cut scenes. This is my thought based on the released film.

the healthiest relationship on the show, they love and respect each other so much
For those who were saying that Charlie and Alex relationship was a bit rushed... I was watching the last episode of season 3 today and I noticed someting
Alex passed by and Charlie TURNED TO LOOK AT HIM
This could be a coincidence but I choose not to believe it... I think Charlie has been intrigued and attracted to Alex since last season, and Season 4 went into that direction (mostly when Alex discovered he was not straight after all).
(In a very small note: Charlie wasn't really involved in anything Bryce related but I think Charlie helped plant evidence against Monty, not only for Tyler, but also for Alex. Since Justin must have told him the whole story before asking that)
Then in 4x04 it's when Charlie realizes that Alex and Winston were something more... So that's when He knew he had a chance, hence the scene with the tent and the party scene that happened after... It also makes sense to why did Charlie researched about TBI. I think Chalex was premeditated and well thought, only looking rushed because of the number of episodes we had this season
Thanks for coming to my TED talk
No bitch, when you don’t get to come back ans exact revenge or be vindictive when you’re dead. That’s because you’re dead, bitch.
Dylan Minette isn’t acting whenever Clay Jensen has a breakdown on 13 Reasons Why. He genuinely is so done with this show.
black lives have not always mattered to some people
i hope those people unfollow me because I don’t think we can have any discussion about why black lives shouldn’t matter
Charlie is literally the best thing that happened to Alex and when he said that a part of him is always going to be sad but another part of him is the happiest that he’s been his entire life I felt that so hard because I have dysthymia and that’s the goal, isn’t it?
