Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?

It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!

I remembered that google maps has an option to also go through the older street view footage, and while the place looks a lot different now, in 2009 this spot looking towards my childhood home looked just as I remembered it being when I was 5 years old. Painted from this streetview screenshot:

The Dear Hunter: Act III - The Tank (Intro and Initial Pencil Sketches)

Love the transitions between the tracks on Act III. The Thief tremolo fading and going fully into Mustard Gas might be my favourite one, details like the ending of What It Means to be Alone with the ambiguous machine sounds followed by the strings in The Tank add so much to the overall album.

Summer has been quite busy, but this is one of the tracks that I really wanted to include in the mini collection.

I know that the tracks, the plot, lyrics and the overall context of the Acts is more symbolic, abstract, lyrical and fictional rather than naming exact dates and places. But for my own reference I took major inspiration from the 1917-18 Doughboys somewhere in France, encountering the very first models of tanks for the first time. Particularly the French Renault FT, which nowadays wouldn't seem overly imposing in its size, but definitely shook infantrymen who have never encountered a tank before.
