No, really, what does that even mean? Are you suggesting that jobs are inherently better if you chose to work them? Discounting the few exceptions of people who genuinely enjoy their job for the task that it is, jobs SUCK. They suck if you chose them, and they suck if they choose you. Depending upon the perspective you decide to have, one could even argue that people having their jobs chosen for them will give them someone to despise and blame any misfortunes on. If you actively “pick” a job and then find out said job actually blows baby chunks, that’s pretty much on you for picking it.  But enough about hypotheticals. How about an objectively “glass half full” take on the concept of having a job chosen for you. At the very least, you’ll never have to worry about where your next mortgage payment will come from. Your next car payment, your next utility bill, your next trunk-full of groceries. You’re GUARANTEED a job; a PAYING job. Ideally with at least a bare minimum of safety and considerations for the human element. The government isn’t going to force you to do a job that’s likely going to kill you anyway. They’d quickly lose all of their citizens! And that’s if NO ONE incites a full-blown revolution/coup through it all.  This is all, of course, a bit fantastical in comparison to reality, but it shouldn’t be far off from the truth either. It is BAFFLING how intelligent most people consider themselves to be while simultaneously putting zero thought into the hypotheticals of the policies they oppose. I’m a fucking idiot and I managed to produce a sound argument for something I’m not even invested in. “I don’t want to do something if it’s something the government tells me to do!” You obey the fucking laws, don’t you? There you go, actually! Imagine that! A law which mandates that everyone of legal age must be given a job! Look, I’ve lived a good chunk of my childhood in a halfway abandoned mountain village in the middle of nowhere. Which meant wildlife galore whether you liked it or not.

And that meant sometimes we saw a deer in the middle of the road at midnight and the majestic motherfucker just stared us down until my mom shredded our tires to stop from hitting him. Once we stopped he did a little half-bow as if saying ‘You have not committed an act of godslayer this night. Your bloodline shall bear no curse of mine’, and walked away chill as you please.

The next day a neighbor told us a deer with fucking big antlers got tangled in his fence because it was trying to steal his grapes.

I went on a hike with another neighbor to collect yarrow for tea. A bear came out of the woods towards us, went on its hind legs and inquiringly roared. And he pushed me, tiny as I was back then, behind me out of sight and spread his jacket wide to make himself seem bigger than he already was. He let out a sound I had not known humans were capable of making. He and the bear looked at each other for a moment, and came to an understanding. The bear went down and walked away, respecting a powerful opponent protecting its young.

A week ago, there had been a bear that completely tore apart our trashcan and gorged itself on half-fermented apples we threw away. My cousin had to chase it away, drunk out of its tiny fucking mind, with an umbrella that made weird noises when opened. The bear ran for its life, crashed into our wall, fell on its ass, and scampered away.

I was playing on a swing once, all alone, and a fox came up to me, the most beautiful animal I had seen in my ten years of life. Thinking it wanted to pass, I stopped swinging and sat still not to spook it. But instead of passing, the fox circled the swing, found it wanting, and came to sit before me perfectly poised and looked me in the eye, and I could swear it wished to tell me something but I could not understand the language spoken before human time.

Then my mom came out of the nearby inn, shrieked at the fox and swung her purse to chase it away. The fox jumped, ran off and fell into a ditch, all notions of grace gone with the wind.

What I’m saying is: the old gods are absolutely idiot animals who embraced the life of constant sex and hedonism in return for losing their higher power. Whether or not they regret it, we’ll never know.

The Great Stag understands “car” in the same way he understands “challenger.” He understands “fence” in the same way he understands “brambles” or “underbrush.” He can handle plant fiber in his way but metal might be a bit beyond him. The Old Gods understand their ways. The Great Stag can can give you the wisdom of being a stag, but humans aren’t stags, so not all of his wisdom applies to our experience. If you promise not to hunt in his forest for a year and a day, he’ll show the trails his herd uses so that you can get out of the woods faster. Maybe you’ll keep that memory, maybe you won’t. Some believe the Old Gods are living gods. There’s no one single Mother Bear. It’s a title that gets passed on. The beings are inhabited by divine force much older and deeper than any human can imagine. Picture a pebble being thrown into a pond. Each new incarnation is like a new ripple expanding outward. If the Old Gods are living beings then they are limited and falliable. They make mistakes and are prone to embarrassment. Like we all are. Instead of merely venerating them, sympathize with them.

Aye, but artwork of all kinds has always influenced reality. If you think writing and reality are mutually exclusive, explain the presence of great works. Just in the same way that Hollywood has led so many to believe that automobiles will explode like five pounds of C4, writing will always have the inherent ability to “normalize” something. Most people take things at face value when consuming their entertainment.  By all means, write dark content. I am a huge fan of stories that exist in and explore grey morals. But! I would personally advise that you be careful in how you execute and portray a concept. Having a plot that, for example, focuses on Stockholm Syndrome is totally fine. Just don’t give it a good outcome. Good outcomes to objectively dark acts is just the same as saying that the act is acceptable and positive.  Understand that people will romanticize whatever they want, and will believe whatever to be normal if it suits their fancy or goes uncontested. Contest it... with consequences. Consequences are the in-story method of telling the reader that the cause of the effect was bad. That’s all that is important. If it goes over the reader’s head even after that, it’s their own damn fault.

I understand and appreciate what you’re going for here... but this is not the best example of your message. In the narrative of Adam and Eve, and their expulsion from Eden, Adam was present with Eve when the snake encouraged her to take the fruit. I would therefore propose that Adam ate the fruit Eve gave him for the same reason Eve took the fruit to begin with; the snake assured them that God would not kill them and that they would become closer to God with the knowledge they would gain from the fruit. Even if Adam did it simply because Eve told him to out of supposed trust, it is little more than blind faith. I am reminded of the saying, “If someone jumps off a cliff(presumably without safety), are you going to follow them?” God’s punishment for the three in the narrative was less about the fact that they disobeyed his rule and more about the fact that they refused to take responsibility for the fact that they did disobey him, regardless of their intentions. There’s also the moment before that in which Adam tries to act like he hadn’t done something wrong, and then subsequently tries the bullshit excuse that it was God’s fault Adam broke the rule because God made Eve, who gave him the fruit.  What is God in comparison to your SO? Two fundamentally different things. Your SO(hopefully) gives you a kind of love in which God would not, and may bear children whom(also hopefully) would give you another type of love God would not. Optimally, some things are discovered and learned along the way. God, however, is meant to be the arbiter of heaven; a place any self-described “good” person would want to go to rather than hell. There’s a lot of nuance to be found here in reality but, ideally, it should be considered that an SO is temporary and heaven/hell is generally accepted to be forever after. Your SO could be completely subservient, meet or exceed every expectation, and give the best blowies in the world; I don’t know that it is logical(even by the unconventional dictations of love) to pick an ever after of endless torture for love. If being with your love is cause for eternal damnation, you either need a new god or you need to seriously take a step back and evaluate exactly why the punishment would be warranted. And you probably need to stop taking relationship advise from movies. According to the narrative of Adam and Eve, the first sins of humanity were lying and shifting blame. Adam’s decision to blindly trust both Eve and the snake were the first poor decisions of humanity. To trust is not a sin; lying is. He should have asked God why the fruit was forbidden so that he could fundamentally understand the reason for the prohibition, thus becoming better equipped to either reject the offered fruit or at least make an informed decision. God shouldn’t have needed to be asked such a question to give his reason, whatever the reason may have been. There was a lot of failures on all fronts there, those are just the most immediate to come to mind. I could not rightly tell you what heaven has as perks which can be compared to the love and presence of an SO. I could tell you that they are two fundamentally different goals, and it is not impossible to have both. In fact, ideally, one should have both. Were one to not have good-aligned virtues while having an SO, something needs to change and it’s certainly not God’s responsibility when it’s not hard to understand why something is good or bad. There are a lot of shades of grey, yes. So long as your intentions are good, AND you are prepared to accept the responsibilities of any ill effects and repercussions your chosen path may lead you to, God should not find you wanting.  OP’s moral is a simple one to understand and doesn’t need an analogous narrative tacked onto it. Anyone can love anyone, but that is not the world we live in currently. Our world is dark and grim and strange, as reality often is. When you find love - honest, healthy love - you should not forsake it or take it for granted. Love is a privilege of, as I’m sure many would agree, the highest order. If it is good and balanced, pure and unconditional, and God were to say that it is wrong and offensive, then God needs to shut the fuck up and mind his own business. Assuming that God is righteous, good, and just, however, were he so inclined to speak up against it, it may be worth the time and effort to step back and evaluate why. Hell, ASK why. A situation such as this often needs the consideration of an outside opinion, one of which God should be able to provide in detail.

So what are your thoughts on a relation combining both Starxie & Starburst (Startrixburst)?

I do admit, I’m a bit of a sucker for Starlight and Trixie as a couple. There’s something about their banter and them being together that actually makes Starlight sufferable for me, and actually turns her from someone I hate as a good person and into a character I can actually enjoy.

Of course Road to Friendship nearly ruined this for me, but I chalk that up to the fact that no relationship is perfect and has moments where its tested to the absolute limits. The fact they make it through it in the end is enough for me to keep them together, but is still proof that Starlight is a terrible person who doesn’t understand WHY she’s terrible.

The main issue I have with Starburst is that Sunburst doesn’t really have much that gets along well with Starlight. He definitely gets along way better with Trixie in this comparison, but neither of them get along with Sunburst as well as Twilight did. Where it was VERY CLEARLY just two nerds flirting with each other, without them KNOWING they were flirting.

You know the kind of flirting, where you see two people giggling and blushing at each other as they’re clearly having fun and you go “Get a room you two” but they adamantly deny that anything was going on, when it very clearly was.

Throwing Sunburst in the middle of Starlight and Trixie doesn’t really fix this issue he has with their personalities in my book either. It’s certainly ONE way to make it more likely for him to be with either of those horses, but I still don’t see it as very likely overall.

You know, agreed. I can get that. When the relationship started to form between Starlight and Trixie, I knew it was bad but I also kind of felt like they deserved each other. Neither of them are good friends to have, and I certainly wouldn’t give them the time of day despite whatever good they managed to achieve.  HOWEVER. Road to Friendship really changed my stance of “they’re two assholes that deserve each other.” One could have expected that behavior from a self-centered Trixie(and I REALLY wish they would have capitalized on the personality type and how to properly handle prodding it over to something less self-centered). Starlight had no excuse for pawning off Trixie’s worldly possessions and then retain the audacity to act like it was a fucking favor. She knew better. No “should have known better”, she fucking knew better. With a father like hers’, Starlight should have known a thing or two about having elements of her life controlled. After having handled a stressed familial bond between Celestia and Luna, she should have had some decent knowledge on how to better handle an antagonistic, salty girlfriend.  KNOWING how cramped and minimalist in design Trixie’s wagon is, common sense should have kicked in at least a little bit, and it wouldn’t have taken much problem-solving at all to go look the thing up and down and say, “Hey, there’s definitely not enough space in here for both of us to be comfortable. But your roof is almost completely flat! A nice chest with a good-quality lock would fit up there perfectly as a temporary fix for an issue that won’t last longer than a week, and all it would need is a little bit of shimming. Maybe I could even see if Applejack has the time to build and mount a nice little storage platform up there for one such chest. How does that sound?” In five seconds of casual thinking, she could have solved half of their problems before they could even become problems! I never thought it would have happened, but I actually felt bad for Trixie. Really bad.  To possess the particular brand of spite required to sell off someone else’s shit without their knowledge or consent just because they are infuriating at times... is disgusting. It was an atrocious “fuck you, got mine” act of such an uncaring degree that I feel like Starlight got let off the hook far, far, FAR sooner and easier than anyone ever should have, let alone Fascist Pony Karen. It shouldn’t have gone that far. Period. If the team behind the show(specifically those behind Starlight Glimmer) wanted people to like and forgive Starlight, they really shouldn’t have made the crap that she pulled so damned egregious. She shouldn’t have taken literally every reaction to anything instantly up to 11. She has no concept of a measured response, despite plenty of interpersonal lessons holding measured responses as a key pillar of virtue. Jfc. Get me off the Glimmer Express.

Starlight felt sympathy for her crimes and made the effort to change her ways.

Cozy felt zero sympathy. Children do know when they’re doing wrong. They do understand if they did something bad and are often sympathetic when they’re told it’s bad. Sure, they might not understand complex stuff like the gray area, but they generally understand Real children also dont’ try to overthrow their rulers or steal everyone’s life force. There’s a big gap between “telling your child why stealing a cupcake is wrong and not grounding them until their 20″ and “working with one of the biggest baddies in MLP to take everyone’s magic and make them her slaves/teaming up with two (three if Sombra counts) biggest villains and try to kill the Mane 6 and their (BABY) dragon”.

Cozy was not a pawn by Tirek. Nowhere in the show does it state or confirm that she was being used by the other villains. She was her own villain, doing things because SHE wanted to because SHE knew it was bad and did not care. She’s exactly like Darla from Cats Don’t Dance, same psychotic “everything must be for me” and who’s concept of Friendship is “they’re my pawns and slaves”. She flipped in Season 9 when a pony on that mountain told her that friendship is not forcing someone whose your friend to do something they are uncomfortable with. Even the villains didn’t buy into her “golly gee mister” act and saw she’s just trying to manipulate them.

But good work straw-manning one of my points because a 21-minute toy commercial is too difficult for you to follow. You have been shitting yourself since Starlight was redeemed. I lost count on how many times you all have been throwing your toys out of the crib about how every villain gets “redeemed” (even though The Superior EG has more redemptions than MLP) but the concept that a villain getting punished for doing something evil that they were 100% compliant with blows your mind.

You can always make the argument that Starlight didn’t learn herself, and I can understand still respect those reasons too. Even I can agree it was mismanaged. 

But good lord do people need to stop acting like fucking Cozy was a saint when the little brat never showed regret or remorse for any of her actions, if at all. If you wanna rant about how that was bad, criticize the fucking writing and not REE over how one character was redeemed and the other wasn’t.

It was a screenshot from a reblog of a reblog he sent to me, that I was screenshotting to continue blogging with him without making the post huge to not flood my follower’s dashboards. It wasn’t meant to be behind his back, it was meant to be a direct answer to him reblogging my post with the full intention that he’d see it. I probably should have made that clearer and I didn’t, and I genuinely apologize for that.

But no, I don’t think Cozy Glow was a saint at all. That was never my argument, she was never a saint. I’m saying that her being a child should mean she should be treated differently from an adult, that’s it. That’s all I was trying to say.

It’s fine for her to not show remorse for her actions, but at the end of the day she’s still 8. Being punished with permanent imprisonment or even being sent to actual, literal hell, feels like overkill, that’s all I was trying to say. And it’s perfectly fine if people disagree with me on that.

I’m genuinely sorry if this got out of hand, but I wasn’t trying to do any of this in bad faith, and was merely sharing my own opinion on a character from a show I used to enjoy.

I mean, if I could throw in my hat for a second, Yes, Cozy Glow should have been handled entirely differently because she’s a child. No, she does not have complete understanding of what she’s actually doing. She’s 8. She’s still getting a grasp on what consequences are, much less the grey areas of concepts and ideology. Her grasp on the gravity of her actions are functionally zero. She may understand that it’s bad, and she may understand that her actions would call for reactions she would find undesirable, but that’s only the tip of the ice berg. She doesn’t understand why it’s bad beyond the obvious and immediate “whining” of everyone else around her. A child literally cannot imagine, fathom, nor understand that the level of aggression she practices on others is damaging and even traumatizing. With any luck, she doesn’t even know what trauma is like to experience. There’s a reason bullying is so damn hard to battle. Kids are still intellectually handicapped because their brain hasn’t developed the processing centers which handles these things in a fully developed brain. But, forgiving all of that for a moment because it’s a cartoon and not a human being. Giving this “lesson” as many breaks as one possibly could while still only just standing within the boundaries of the grey area right before the Horrendously Fucking Awful zone... where the hell are Cozy Glow’s parents/legal guardians? You know, those two(typically) individuals - usually married - who are legally obligated to and responsible(in every sense of the word) for the upbringing of their “I had sex” trophy. Ideally to teach them right and wrong, but at the very least provide them with food, shelter, and an acceptable minimum of living conditions. The ones who are supposed to enroll said child in school at a legally-agreed-upon age. A school that must be recognized by a school board as being adequate with competent staff prepared to teach the bare fucking minimum it takes to learn how to function within the world around them. Of which Twilight’s school was not, as it solely focused on learning how to interpersonal relationship better. Something that, applying human logic and understanding to it once more, a child her age could not possibly understand by the longest stretch of the imagination of the furthest-reaching parallel universe. Not even if her life depended upon it(you could say they got that part right at least, but just because they could do it doesn’t mean they should have) You’re objectively and utterly wrong, darkwee009; a child is entirely incapable of understanding the full scope of their actions in the immediate world around them. Cozy Glow literally and legally should not have been dealt such severe and absolute punishment when she can barely understand the crime beyond, “You’re just mad because I did it”. Her parents should have suffered that. Or, at the very least, gelded so they couldn’t screw up another developing child, and then placed on a publicly accessible list of people you should never trust your kid to be with unsupervised. You see, there’s this thing called a measured response, something that the show stopped referencing after about season 6. It’s a very self-evident concept for a fully developed brain, punishments should fit the crime. But! And follow me on this one, there’s nuance. An adult is perfectly capable of the rationale required to understand every facet of why stealing, say, a candy bar is not an ideal route. A child cannot understand most of those same facets. All they know is that candy bars are awesome and “that guy said money is optional” or “money is stupid because no one ever seems to have any of it.” And before you go, “Theft and killing are two completely different levels of crime,” let me drop a little nugget of information on ya. A nice little pearl you can rely upon for the rest of your life. Ready? You’ll want to write this down. CHILDREN DON’T UNDERSTAND THAT And if that’s the limp-handed argument you want to die defending, then you’re missing the point. The point is that children are physically incapable of understanding the full scope of their actions. They don’t know what nuance is, or a measured response, or priorities, things worth doing, things not worth doing - these aren’t things people are capable of learning until somewhere in their teens, much less actually ever learn them. Hell, pre-teens are still trying to wrap their damn head around the fact that the world is bigger than the city they live in. With their parents! Their legally responsible parents! Who fucking know better! Cozy Glow should’ve been taken to a team of doctors, therapists, and psychiatrists who could at least understand and attempt to unfuck that kid’s mind after her daddy left it behind in the greasy restaurant bathroom of a run-down city full of jaded assholes. Cozy doesn’t need a permanent jail cell, she needs fucking professional help, along with many of the other characters in the show.  I don’t know what happened after about season 5, but suddenly someone got a massive fucking erection for mentally damaged characters. It’s like the person writing pre-season 4 Fluttershy was told to leave buttershush alone, and their immediate response was that they’ll just make their own canon characters, but with blackjack and hookers. Chrysalis had a mental breakdown, Luna masochistically tortured herself every night, Pinkie Pie literally goes full-blown, near-suicidal depression on the lightest fucking critique of something she likes obnoxiously loudly and unendingly. Starlight, Tempest, Sunburst, the list goes on and on. It’s like someone saw that Lesson Zero was pretty entertaining and thought, “People must think crippling mental disorders and complete breakdowns are really fucking funny!”, bent it over, and rammed it right into goddamn eleven. That isn’t funny or interesting, it’s sad and depressing because someone thought that A) these were good aspects to center in a lesson, and B) that their target audience of children and maladjusted reprobates could understand that lesson even if it had been well-executed inside of 22 minutes(try not to get too worked-up by a hyperbole there, big guy). TL;DR: Fuck you, children are handled differently for scientifically explainable reasons. Your series finale bosses were miserable excuses for villains and no one felt good about what happened. If you think Cozy Glow “got more than she deserved”, don’t have kids, you’ll never handle them in any way remotely close to the realm of properly. @darkwee009 So you can’t use the “chicken shit” defense like it actually means anything more than what it is; a thought-terminating cliche. It’s not even a good one.

Lana came out as a woman after Speed Racer in 2008, and Lily eight years later after the release of Jupiter Ascending (2016), so if you see original home copies of the Matrix (pre-2008), they are referred to as the Wachowski Brothers on it. It was a branding thing, like the Coen Brothers. That’s how they were called, because they were still presenting as male to the industry and the industry sold them as a creative unit.

I remember after Lana came out, the boxes switched to calling them just The Wachowskis, so I imagine now it’s the Wachowski Sisters.

So, yes, they’ve always been sisters, but if you didn’t know that, it’s not your fault. It’s been a long process and I’m glad they did it on their terms in their time.

Me every morning for the past week

Start with coffee and some internet, poking about my usual places. Get on to Tumblr. Scroll scroll scroll. “Damn, artists are fucking killing it lately. Even Evehly is drawing up a storm.” Scroll some more. See another post about Covid-19 “... oh yeah... that’s probably why...” sip, scroll. I constantly forget the world is simultaneously bored as hell and losing its shit at dumbasses still ignoring this problem or just generally not contributing to the solution COUGHtrumpCOUGH. I almost never leave the house anyway, so I lucked out on the die roll for my social development. ^^;
