Tokenizing anyone is a shitty thing to do but it's especially ridiculous to tokenize tumblr users, who can and do lie about literally everything.
Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.
My favorite part is the sink.
This is the only known photo of the first trans woman to have her gender legally recognized in Switzerland.
In 1914, Adine T. sent a letter to her local police to grant her a pass to dress as she pleased. She petitioned that "I be granted permission to live as a woman, to wear female clothing and to pursue female occupations, and to be considered a woman before the world in all and every respect, since my emotional feelings are totally feminine and I feel unspeakably unhappy in male clothing."
Her gender was so clear that even the conservative Swiss government had to recognize it. Obtaining permission to live as a woman "is a matter of life and death for me," Adine added.
111 years ago, it was the first pass of its kind in her nation (although not the first in Europe). When interviewed, Adine described herself similarly to other trans lesbians in the 20th century: "a homosexual woman in a male body.” Source: Matthias Ruoss, "Arnold, Arnoldine, Adine."
the best fanfic is the one the author had fun writing actually.
the second best is the one the author used to work through some issues.
the third best is the one the author wrote out of spite due to some really dogshit discourse going on in their fandom

okay now that much ado is closed i think it's time i tell u all about fleabenedick
Okay so if you look at much ado, far and away Benedick does the most soliloquizing to the audience; Claudio gets a little, Beatrice gets a little, but Benedick just cannot stop. Every time he's onstage hes launching into these big speeches. And not emotional introspection like Claudio, these are bona fide PERFORMANCES. They're witty, they're full of jokes and wordplay and arrogance and overcompensation. Which makes sense to me! One of the big things about Benedick is that he expects and is expected, always, to perform: He's the prince's jester, he's the one who makes jokes to lighten the mood, "I will bid thee draw [thy wit], as we do the minstrels: draw to pleasure us"—this is his whole thing, it's his defense, he never has to truly care about anything, or have a stake, or be honest, because his role in his relationships is to put on a show.
Which brings me to fleabenedick (Fleabag Benedick). I recently got to live my dream of playing lesbian Benedick in a production of much ado about nothing and one of the things I caught myself doing late in the rehearsal process was slowly integrating a few fourth wall breaks; Not big ones, just little glances at the audience, gestures during my monologues, that kind of stuff. "Certain I am loved of all ladies" and you look at the front row, a little how do I look? gesture when Beatrice comes on, etc. Always gets a big laugh during the hiding scene/monologues. But what rly solidified this for me is the wedding: Benedick is standing there, watching his best friend say some of the vilest imaginable things, this massive, horrifically cruel and hurt and cynical speech from Claudio, the man he was just teasing for being a hopeless romantic, and Don Pedro backs him up, and they didn't even tell him, Benedick has no idea what's going on, and I started playing it that, just once or twice, he looks out at the audience like. This isn't supposed to happen. Should we do something? What do we do? Do we just watch this happen?
And then he has his scene with Beatrice, his first moment of emotional honesty in the entire play. He confesses his love and she does too. She tells him to kill Claudio and he says yes. And the performance stops completely. When he walks on later to challenge Claudio they try to get him to make jokes and he flat out refuses. He just says no. They don't even believe he could be honestly mad at first because it's so out of character. His love confession scene with Beatrice isn't just about the love confession it's about the vulnerability of admitting you care about anything, that you're willing to risk something, that you can actually be in the moment with someone, that there is a person underneath the performance. Anyways TL;DR I just had a lot of fun with some subtle fourth wall breaks and the sudden removal of them and if my director sees this I'm so sorry for fleabagging your perfectly good much ado

You've heard "Zombie by the Cranberries is not a Halloween song," and "Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen isn't a Christmas song," but have you seen the new entry on the scene, "American Pie by Don McLean is not a patriotic fourth of July song?"
Bro check it out. It's a drawing of an anime girl. But look closer. She is gaunt and has bags around her eyes. Further yet, she has an overall sullen, disheveled manner. Is that a cigarette? Perhaps a can of beer? That's fucking crazy bro. Holy fuck. Is that allowed? Normally girls are cute. Jesus Christ. That's so crazy man. Wow.
I "get" it. It isn't fucking avant-garde sculpture. The whole point of this post was making fun of people who genuinely believe there's anything esoteric about idealized drawings of skinny, pale, often-blonde women surrounded by empty beer cans and smoking a cigarette. These human symbols of deep, organic flaws are beyond neutralized by the projection onto a porcelain effigy of waifish, helpless femininity. The sum of each constituent part puts it in the negative. Which has the potential to be an interesting statement if anyone were actually discussing that instead of going around insisting, to be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to eroticize Ashtray Woman.
