most of the things y'all hate noah wyle for are actually scott gemmill's fault who is the sole showrunner/creator and holds much more power but who somehow evades almost every scrutiny think piece I've seen.
noah wyle is part of the writer's room and a director/executive producer, so he does have sway, but so do other writers and directors, of which many are women/poc. (which I don't enjoy how many people act like Noah is the only writer and director in their hatred of him— because sure, hate him. but you're discrediting the work of great writers like Cynthia Adarkwa and Valerie Chu and more who've given us plenty of amazing moments in the show.)
however that all goes through scott. again, creator and showrunner. he is the one who decided Samira just "wouldn't be working that day" in s3. (and maybe I'm just a hopeful, but that does leave an opening for maybe Samira in s4?) noah wyle most likely had nothing to do with that decision.
I do have gripes with this show, I think the writing of s2 was both better and messier in many ways. it has some of my favorite moments and episodes, (nurse centered ep6 was mwah) but definitely some fumbles. I liked some bits about Trinity's Kylie storyline, and it showed some good about her character, but I don't like that it was a "fake out" and I hope they give Trinity a storyline where she's definitively right, and catches abuse.
they fumbled Samira's storyline, and while I think she still managed to have good moments, (caring about her patient first instead of focusing on Jack, apologizing to Joy for being too quick to judge her outside the box thinking and then commending her on it, really listening to the geriatric couple) it's clear in the last few episodes they were unfortunately planning to write her off. again, a decision made by gemmill.
some of the cut scenes could've been kept and been great, (where tf was victoria with her parents at leaaast) some of the pacing was off. there are critiques to be made, things to be called into question. what irks me is that it seems to be constantly pointed towards Noah and Noah alone, a Jewish man at the receiving end of a lot of specifically anti-Semitic hate. (the "even Satan disguises himself as an angel" tweet was particularly gross.)
scott gemmill is the white man you're looking for. scott gemmill is where the critiques should be directed. I don't really get into actor discourse because I like talking about the characters, (I'm so autistic about this show) and I don't know any of these people personally, but if there's one person deserving of some more scrutiny, this is the guy. this is who's really calling the shots.
