We’re going to be starting a Regency AU RP soon!

The historical accuracy will be relaxed; we expect that some of us will enjoy striving for it in our replies and research, whereas others will go largely off vibes, so please don’t worry about this if you’re interested.

We are planning on starting Dec. 5th!

There are still decisions to be made, but the setup might be the start of the social season (for example), which would make it possible to have plenty of group events.

Character claims are on a first-come, first-served basis, so if you want to join or would like to chat about it, please join the server and get in touch with one of the mods (further details can be found there)

If you decide to join, don't worry about the details! We have all sorts of resources on backgrounds, nobility, gentry, merchant class, servants, etc and more in the RP section to help your ideas flow!

Barty - Character Discussion

There’s no right answers, just let us know your headcanons and thoughts. Get into discussions if you want. These questions are also in the character discussion thread in the Marauders Mayhem discord server, see @maraudersmayhemblog for more details.

What are your favourite ships for him & why? What are your favourite platonic relationships for him & why?

Marauders Era

What do you imagine Barty Sr was like as a parent and as a person? Do you think Sirius is correct in his assessment “Should have spent a bit more time at home with his family, shouldn’t he? Ought to have left the office early once in a while ... gotten to know his own son?"

What about his relationship with his mother like as a child? Did Barty Sr. “love her as he never loved” Barty? How did she persuade Barty Sr.?

What house do you imagine he was in? How do you think he felt when he got sorted?

Who were his friends at Hogwarts?

What is his relationship like with the Blacks (he is probably related to them via Charis Crouch Black)?

What do you think he looks like? What is straw hair?

Canonically his father says he has 12 OWLs. How intelligent do you imagine him to be? In comparison to the other characters? How studious was he? What subjects do you imagine he was good at? Did he play quidditch?

Do you think he was a member of slug club? Was he a prefect?

How rebellious or not was he?

Canonically I think we can assume he didn’t interact much with Sirius, did he interact with Lily, James, Remus, Peter or Severus, do you think?

Was he “a nice young lad from a good family had gone… badly astray” As Sirius describes him? Was he a blood purist? Or was he lured to Voldemort by something else?

When do you think he became a Death Eater? At school? After school? What do you think radicalized him?

How much did he participate in the attack on the Longbottoms, do you think?

What do you think his relationship with Bellatrix (and Rod and Rab) was like?

Is he *petrified* at the trial? When he pleads with his mother how much does she believe him? Can we as readers believe him even after his Veritaserum confession? Why? Why not?

Imperius Era

How did he feel after being *saved* from Azkaban?

Was he able to grieve his mother? What is his relationship with grief like?

How do you think being under imperius for so long affected him?

What was his relationship like with Winky?

Canon Era

How much does he know about Moody before he plays him?

How is he so convincing at pretending to be Moody?

How much of what he does as Moody is a reflection of Barty’s own character? What inspires him to turn Draco into ferret as punishment for example?

How do you think Barty feels about Harry? What makes him able to build such a good relationship with Harry?

How do you think Barty feels about Neville? What makes him able to build a relationship with Neville? Even after having caused him distress by showing him the effects of Crucio?

Do you think he’s a good DADA teacher or not? Why? Why not?

Is he particularly thrilled by the unforgivable curses? Why does he teach the children to resist Imperius?

Do you think he ever killer anyone other than his father? Why? Why not?

Why was he so enthralled by Voldemort? Is he obsessive in general?

Was Voldemort his saviour or his doom? Why? Why not?

What do you think motivates Barty? Particularly as the antagonist of GoF?

Is he more like his father than he wants to admit? Can he be separated from his father?

Why do you think he barely referenced in the last three books despite having been such an effective antagonist?

How do you translate him into a modern AU? What jobs fit him? What character traits?

Sign ups will be done by a google form. For this, we will need at least one method of communicating with you (via Discord, Tumblr, or email)

The form will ask for favourite themes/tropes, characters and relationships, no goes/don’t wants, and NOTPs. You must be open to giving and receiving gifts without a romantic or sexual relationship. Participants will provide five different lyrics (these must be a small selection) and tell us what song these are from and the artist. You are welcome to add in further details such as any characters or ships that come to mind, but the prompt filler does not need to use these in the gift. They must, however, bear in mind the broader information you give. You are encouraged to give a variety of prompts (e.g. a mix of artists and themes)

Lyric prompts are shared - 22nd November

Anonymous lyrics prompts will be shared. Around this time we will also hold a listening party on our discord server. You are encouraged to listen to all the songs during this time as you might find you want to select something you might have otherwise dismissed (e.g. a song you’ve never heard or listened to properly).

Lyric prompt selections open - 29th November

This next stage will also be done by a Google form. You will be asked to select every prompt you would be happy to fill.

Lyric prompt selections close - 6th December

Matching - 6th December

We will match you with a giftee. Initially, we will look at which prompts have been selected, if there is flexibility with matching, we’ll then consider favourite characters/relationships/themes.
