here’s a director who went for emotions and directed his actors…. it felt true!
^^ exactly! thank you so much
Can I just say?? Not enough directors genuinely check in on their actors after wringing emotional scenes from them. Actors….don’t exactly do all that much on set, their work is maybe like >10% of what goes on although the rest of the 90% happening is about making that 10% as perfect as possible. But a lot of directors treat actors who have just spilled their souls in front of the camera a bit like meat puppets expected to just turn it all off and on whenever and that’s not right.
So seeing Rian out here making sure his actors are good during these tough emotional scenes honestly warms my heart and I’m so glad he’s out there being his best like this. 💜
He’s incredible. I love him so much

Interviewer: Is there stuff you personally know about Kylo Ren that isn’t seen on the big screen?

Intuition is real. Vibes are real. Energy doesn’t lie. Tune in.
This is actually called thin slicing. Your brain recognizes patterns from very small “slices” of information by comparing them to things you have experienced before. This all happens very quickly on a subconscious level without our conscious mind being involved. So intuition is actually really fast pattern recognition, and it can be very accurate. So yeah, if you have a gut feeling that a person or situation is not good, get the hell out. Your brain knows what’s up.
When I was young - because I’ve always been a big skeptical pain in the ass - I thought that when people were talking about interpersonal “energy,” they were on some Gay Ass Shit.
Years later, after spending hundreds of hours reading studies about intuition and neuroscience and pattern recognition and the processing power of the subconscious mind, I realized that that kind of talk - “she has such good energy,” “you need to read the energy of the room,” “I just got some really bad energy off of that guy” - is a convenient shorthand for the lightning-fast, weirdly-accurate, real-as-fuck subconscious processing of the probability of positive or negative social outcomes likely to result from hundreds or thousands of variables. That “energy” isn’t a tangible thing floating around in the air. It’s your brain updating you constantly with information about your situation. Listen to it. Especially if it’s telling you to be nervous or scared. Your brain is very good at recognizing danger. Let the enormous processing power of your subconscious mind protect you. It’s better at spotting patterns than you are.
“Bad energy” isn’t some hippie shit. It’s your brain setting off a claxon because it knows something’s not right.
Thin slicing is wonderfully helpful, but be aware that if it’s doing its pattern recognition from bad sources, you need to actively override it. We’re raised in a racist society, inundated with racist media, and bombarded with subtly (or unsubtly) racist advice. Thin slicing can save your life, but it’s also the cause behind the unconscious elements of racism (and misogyny/ableism/antisemitism/islamophobia/etc.) that we all suffer from
Trust your instincts, but if your instincts tell you something that seems prejudicial, double check their work.
A+ addition
Also know that if you are a victim of abuse or suffer from various mental problems for reasons either internal or external, this can have an effect on how your brain processes information. Just like with societal norms that lead to racist (or other -ist) views, your perceptions are determined by these experiences, and can result in false positive or negatives. I’m not saying that you’re imagining things if you’re picking up on bad vibes, but definitely be critical of it if your immediate reaction to everything is to assume the worst. Take that gut feeling an analyze it from a more objective perspective to see if you’re seeing red flags, or painting something red because it triggers you in some way. Likewise, be careful to avoid falling into patterns where you find yourself drawn to people because your brain is interpreting their behavior as normal, when in reality it’s just comfortable because it reminds you of past experiences.
People having an opinion about the film is absolutely fine. You pay your money and you’re allowed to have an opinion, and you’re allowed to like it or dislike it.

This is the only Star Wars discourse I’m interested in right now.
Mark Hamill said droid rights.
This is the real Luke Skywalker
Didn’t think I’d find myself agreeing with Count Dooku but here I am.
Okay but he’s honestly 100% right.
Damn, Anakin was onto something…
I mean, it’s true. Anakin was right in criticizing the Jedi and the Republic.
I’ll forever resent that it happened off-screen because the most tragic moment in Star Wars was when Yoda decided singlehandedly to start the war. The clones were created by Sidious to force to Republic to go into war and Yoda went to Kamino to take them to Geonosis and the Clone Wars started. He was played, yes, but he could have known better.
It’s time for the Jedi to end.
I’m not sure how so many people walked out of the PT still worshipping the Jedi as the saviors of the galaxy when Lucas practically hit us over the head with their failures, hubris (I’m so glad they used that word in TLJ), and arrogance.
THEN we got the Clone Wars series and they smacked us around with it some more. Come on people! Look again.
The Jedi aren’t a thing we should preserve. They were the lesson. The mistakes we each make in life. We have a choice, we can learn from out mistakes or we can be doomed to repeat them.
What do you choose?
