Thinking about my last reblog and noticing how little Nancy gets out of the relationship with Steve. He doesn’t help her grow or evolve as a character, she doesn’t learn anything about herself through the relationship and doesn’t even love him. It’s all about Steve. And what it does for him. Even in season four, she has to be silenced in order for the show to present the notion that they might get back together.
Just weird shit.
You contrast that with Jancy and how that platonic and romantic relationship helps Nancy grow and evolve as a character. It’s eye opening. From giving her a way to protect herself and the ones she cares about (guns) to finding and nurturing her passion (reporting), Jonathan is by her side through many of her character moments in a way Steve never is.
Again, it’s weird that the show ever tries to present them as equal parts of the triangle. At least until the end, when even they can’t keep up the charade anymore.
Life goal: be as cool as Jonathan Byers
@stcreators event 03 comfort: reunion
I'm okay
Oh they're greedy
the jancy breakup said a lot about them and how much they loved each other. normally, when thinking about breakups, we imagine the worse case scenario with angry shouts and agony but their case was the opposite: they broke up in the most intimate and heathly breakup scene ever. there was no fight, no resentment, no one to blame. just two people letting each other go because they were in love and wanted the best for each other even if it meant going their separate ways. you can see that he loved that girl with all his being. in the moment he understood that she needed space, he knew what to do. she was letting her heart out for him in the way she never did to anyone before. they reconized they would never find anything like what they had together and i do think that scene was the most in love they ever sounded and looked in the show. they knew it had all worth it, they knew it was a once in a lifetime kinda thing. they tried to fix things, heal their wounds, but for some reason (those brothers), they weren't meant to be together at that moment. for my mental health, i like to think that after a few years, after having the opportunity to see the world without traumatical influences and to met new people, they eventually found their ways back together.
Is there a single Jancy shipper who was (a) totally blindsided by their breakup (rather than realizing it was a possibility back in S4) and (b) only had a problem with the breakup itself (rather than how it was written and set up)? Because I’m so done with these condescending-ass posts and comments that are like “well, I think their breakup was good and made sense, because they were having problems.” They are not real people! The set-up for the breakup was just as made-up as the breakup itself! And, if the standard for good writing is “there was some kind of set-up for the thing that happened,” then what the hell would qualify as a badly written breakup? Nancy tearfully reveals that she’s been sexually obsessed with famous ex-Soviet ballet dancer Mikhail Baryshnikov for years and she can’t keep living a lie? Because arguably that’s foreshadowed by her early-seasons ballet necklace and the existence of the USSR within the show.
do you fuck with my little persons
guess who’s on their jancy bullshit again
jonathan byers is so important to me.
being one of the most misunderstood characters in one of the most popular shows ever, hated by almost everyone in the fandom, being surrounded by people, yet still feeling alone.
he’s one of the most precious characters to ever exist. comforting his brother, making sure he doesn’t feel the same trauma he felt and went through with his dad at the age of 11–12. not even a teenager yet, and already taking on responsibility.
having to plan a whole funeral for his brother at only 16 years old, not even a legal adult. not having ANYONE to help him, paying for everything himself. blaming himself for will’s disappearance, having gone through so much trauma and abuse that he has to look in his father’s trunk to make sure his brother wasn’t abducted.
even in season 4, caring so much about everybody but himself. getting high, yet the only thing that mattered to him was his brother’s happiness and whether he was okay or not. not telling nancy that he didn’t want to go to emerson, just because he didn’t want her to change her mind and ignore what she wanted, all because she wanted to be with her boyfriend. giving her all the independence she needed, something you don’t find in many relationships.
always being there for his brother, even if he wasn’t will’s first choice. proudly watching from the sidelines was jonathan’s forte.
jonathan byers, the most selfless person ever.
we cannot forget that will byers is the youngest child that is the same boy who saw that his older brother got a present and asked if he could open it for him
jonathan knew will was gay before will even had the words for it 😭 and he just wanted him to feel loved and accepted and know it was okay 😭 but still never pressured him to talk about it 😭 he just made sure he knew that he was there when he eventually would 😭 and loved him no matter what 😭
Something about this specific outfit-😌
Lovely to see we have spaces where you can gain access to so much literature!

JANCY I MISS MY JANCY☹️☹️☹️
there's a certain h**ringrove/st**die trope whereby because Steve is the protagonist and Nancy's actually in love w Jonathan and not him, Jonathan just sort of exists in the background as a homewrecker. and it does make me laugh bc look at him. oh yeah that tempter, he knew what he was doing when he told her he wanted to stay at home reading instead of going out for Halloween. standing there in 15 layers of flannel like a HARLOT
Headcanon where Karen and Joyce outlive Ted and Hopper and live out their golden years together in Montauk. Coastal Grandmacore. Joyce is heavily involved in local theater. Karen gardens her ass off and sells her hydrangeas to tourists at the farmer’s market. Their house is full of seashells and dusty romance novels and an absurd amount of framed photos on the walls. Chelsea, their little cocker spaniel, is their pride and joy and favorite child (she adores Mike despite the fact that he wants the least to do with her).
Their kids are never sure whether they are lovers but it kind of doesn’t matter. All the grandkids love to visit The Grandmas.
