the thing is that childhood doesn't just end when you turn 18 or when you turn 21. it's going to end dozens of times over. your childhood pet will die. actors you loved in movies you watched as a kid will die. your grandparents will die, and then your parents will die. it's going to end dozens and dozens of times and all you can do is let it. all you can do is stand in the middle of the grocery store and stare at freezers full of microwave pizza because you've suddenly been seized by the memory of what it felt like to have a pizza party on the last day of school before summer break. which is another ending in and of itself

Some things about this post since getting quite a few notes:

3. I think there are times where scrolling is fine. Right now, for example, I'm being connected to a machine for two hours to donate plasma and platelets. just saw a pigeon doing the puffed up courtship dance thing to another pigeon, and as he was strutting around he suddenly stopped for a split second to do a very brief preen-peck at his own side, then returned to the strutting around. and i surprised myself by instantly losing respect for the male pigeon in that moment, like come on man i appreciate you had an itch or whatever but how is she supposed to feel special when you're getting distracted by bullshit like that? which on reflection i don't endorse, i mean those are pretty harsh dating norms i'm imposing on these pigeons, from a total outsider perspective, for no reason. probably not all girl pigeons are as uptight about that sort of thing as i would apparently be if i was a girl pigeon, maybe she even found it endearing who knows, i don't know her. it's none of my business really. sorry pigeons.

Does anyone else sometimes have this extremely faint and vague feeling of worry and doubt, that what if everything I was taught at school and see online is a lie, propaganda, nonsense and fabrication, something that's been made up to conceal the fact that your whole home country/region is kept in an isolation bubble where you only think that you are free, and know real things about the real rest of the world. And then every time you see something in real life that works with the exact same logic or mechanics as you were taught at school and you're like oh woah. That is real.

Like sitting in a train and hearing someone speak a language you studied a little at school, and you find yourself recognising words here and there, the grammar is the way you were taught and you're like woah, that actually is a real language that people speak in real life. I wasn't taught to memorise some nonsensical word puzzle mechanic just to earn a grade, that's a real language that I could learn to speak with real people.

The rest of the world outside of my personal physical range of observation is really real. There's an above zero possibility that Spain exists.

if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills
