When Bilbo became the King’s companion, the royal jewelers made him a heavy silver clasp shaped like a raven. Bilbo found it too heavy and sharp, often scratching himself. Thorin noticed this and secretly melted it down. He reshaped it into a smooth, rounded clasp made of dark timber and silver, shaped like a simple acorn. For a Dwarf, downgrading precious metal to wood is unheard of, but Thorin wanted Bilbo to wear something that felt like home
