in my 20 years of life I have always felt that the odds have been stacked against me. I have been taunted, jeered at, picked on. Called all types of trannies and freaks. I have been, and in some ways still am, the textbook definition of an outcast. I’m all too familiar with the fever that comes after a night of sleeping in puddles of my own tears. I have begged God, or whatever entity it is that my parents taught me sits in the sky and watches over me, for the strength and courage to take my own life. I have been through Hell to finally identify with what it means to be happy. This life was not worth living to me. But knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t trade this body, this existence, this beauty and this experience for anything in the world. That being said, I would be damned if I let anyone’s vapid insecurity or curiosity undermine my contentment within myself. I have worked for this. I have bled for this. I have nurtured a confident, funny, talented and inspiring woman out of the shell that was my former self. I am not a toy to be played with. I am not a scientific specimen to be picked apart, trivialized, or commodified. I am a person who is more than worthy of respect, love and success. And goddammit, I’m gonna get all of it. Please be mindful of the way you interact with people, online and in person. We are all just trying to carve a little slice of happiness out of what this life has to offer.
