Percy had as much intention of expanding his domain as he had for claiming it in the first place: none.
As a god of pegusi, he mostly just gets a power boost with a couple neat tricks. The power of creation isn't anything to sneeze at, but Annabeth never hesitates to remind him it's a power held by half of all mortals.
Then there is a war.
Titans against gods and half-bloods in the middle. Percy is a god, despite how he'd been raised, and he's has criticisms of his parents but none so great that he seeks to abandon them. The choice for him is easy, the choice for many of the half bloods is easy.
The god they have the most exposure to, after all, is Percy.
Their parents may or may not visit them, may or may not have good relationships with them, but half of them grew up with Percy and the other half were trained by them, their friendly head counselor who trained them and played with them and, when needed, saved them. Of course they wanted to save him back.
Which was all well and good when Percy was just a minor god of a small domain. Zeus had once described his domain over pegusi as quaint.
But there is a war.
And Percy pushes himself.
He doesn't have the luxury of holding back. Hera doesn't even bother cautioning him against it. They need every advantage they can get.
They're in the middle of a battlefield. The sea twists and rolls around him, Poseidon to his left, Titon to his right, and Amphitrite somewhere down below. It should be a battle easily won, and it would be, if their opponent weren't Oceanus.
Percy pulls and strains and pushes, using everything he has until his mother's and father's blood boils in his veins. Until something in him and in the world snaps with a sickening familiarity.
Oceanus is torn apart and then tossed into the depths of the sea. Poseidon splits the earth beneath the waves open and closes it behind the pieces of Oceanus, sealing him away back to where he can't stand against them.
Percy heaves in lungfuls of air and water and clings to the control of what he'd just become by his fingertips.
Something tells him that Zeus will not find his new domain quaint.
He hopes Annabeth doesn't mind being married to the god of hurricanes.
