This is the man who doesn’t understand how tax brackets work and is CONVINCED that if he makes more than a certain dollar amount he will be tipped into a new tax bracket and his entire income will now be taxed at the highest bracket and he will now LOSE money.

This myth has been around for literal decades.

That post that's like "stop writing characters who talk like they're trying to get a good grade in therapy" really blew the door wide open for me about how common it's become for a character's emotional intelligence to not be taken into consideration when writing conflict. I remember the first time I went to therapy I had such a hard time even identifying what I was feeling, let alone had the language to explain it to someone else. Of course there are plenty of people who've never been to therapy a day in their life who are in tune to their emotions. But even they would have some trouble expressing themselves sometimes. You have to take into account there are plenty of people who are uncomfortable expressing themselves and people who think they're not allowed to feel certain ways. It also makes for more interesting conflict to have characters with different levels of understanding.

i think people have gotten out of the habit of writing characters being untruthful unless they're evil. sometimes people just lie, or they believe and repeat things that aren't true. people just do not and often Can not tell the absolute truth about themselves all the time even during heated and climactic moments. why are you writing everyone being absolutely honest about their feelings!!

I started following r/tragedeigh a few years ago for two main reasons:

1) I worked a job where I encountered a lot of names given by parents who clearly were not thinking about their child’s future

2) I also have a non-typical name and can relate to the kids being named by parents who maybe leaned a bit too heavy on being ✨unique✨

But honestly, the only time I go on there now is to watch in absolute disbelief as an entire subreddit of people dig in their heels and attack anyone who does not have a white, Christian name that has gone unchanged for hundreds of years.

“Tragedeigh” used to refer to like, an egregiously misspelled name with a bunch of extra letters or a random noun used as a name. But the last time I took a peek at their top posts they were shitting on such terrible, uncultured names as:

Evangeline

Levi

Dillon

Jeremiah

Aidan

(Etc)

There was also a post where a woman talked about how Lauren was a seen as a weird and bad name choice when she named her daughter, and they more or less called her a liar (because that might mean that their hissy fits over totally normal names might also be seen as silly in time, and they couldn’t handle that.)

Truly high tier clownery in those parts, I recommend it in a toxic, eat-popcorn-and-laugh-at-intolerant-people sense
