As I read MDZS by MXTX, I am struck by how grateful I am for the way The Untamed decided to handle the story. They looked at the homophobia and said “you know what? No. No thank you.” They altered Wei Wuxian’s character a little - not to change who he fundamentally is as a person - but they improved him, made him more like-able. MDZS Wei Wuxian makes me feel quite a bit of secondhand embarrassment on multiple occasions, but CQL Wei Wuxian? We owe it to the scriptwriters, director and of course Xiao Zhan for creating a character you cannot help but feel an enormous amount of affection for. Furthermore, MXTX handled the romance in some instances like a straight woman’s fantasy of an MLM couple. MDZS Lan Wangj’s demeanor feels like he wants to own Wei Wuxian at times, with a possessive streak that is in no way something to be romanticised. CQL Lan Wangji? Wang Yibo, thank you endlessly for the soft, deeply emotional and loving character you created. Wang Yibo somehow managed to convey a repressed gay teenager who’s experiencing those new, terrifying feelings of a first love. The yearning is palpable; the longing and self-restraint, all portrayed effortlessly with minuscule facial expressions. Xiao Zhan’s Wei Wuxian’s love for Lan Wangji is similarly restrained for other reasons. The show took censorship and made it work for them. Novel WangXian’s confession is not only absurd, but also highlights much of what is so off about the novel’s portrayal of their romance. It might seem odd to criticise the original source material in this way: the story is MXTX’s creation after all.  To summarise, I think that CQL is the most valid adaptation that has and will ever exist.

Thigh high socks and femboy stuff used to be heavily associated with trans people, but due to its "anime" aesthetic and popularity on YouTube internet fascists have latched unto it. The same is starting to happen now with cottage core which originates in a desire to push back away from alienation born of capitalism by like living in a house with your close ones where you grow your own stuff, away from the city. Fascists are using the same aesthetic to promote traditionalist values, in a way that's like, they attract unsuspecting people by using the aesthetic, dilutes in their nauseating ideologies in a discrete way and progressively radicalise people. Same for ecofascism, they use the general climate of fear and anger at governments' inaction regarding climate change to propagate their ideas on eugenics among other things.

Basically they know how to identify codes and trends that resonate among the younger internet users on the most popular social networks, repeat them while adding in their ideologies and thus slowly recruit more people.

You’ve just realized something strange about the humans. They’re a race that joined the galaxy recently, but you’ve just found evidence of them already been part of it for many millennia before, but it feels like everybody’s forgotten.

We were delighted when the people calling themselves ‘humans’ joined the spacefaring races. They were clever and agile, hot-tempered and humorous, fierce and yet friendly, a young species with much to offer us. 

Most species are still delighted. But we are the Bybleotekar, the recorders of the spaceways, and we have begun to wonder. Our merry companions are… not different, but too much the same. They understand so readily, accept so quickly - most new species have trouble adjusting to dealing with aliens, to the realities of space travel, to the sheer bigness of the universe. But the humans are so adaptable, so ready for it all, they might be remembering something they’ve forgotten, not learning something new. 

Some of us, the Izaslanik of the Bybleotekar, the gatherers of information for the record keepers, began encouraging humans to join us, that we might study them more closely. They like the work - they are a curious species, delighting in new knowledge, and they make able assistants. My human companion is named Mira, a young female. She is a good companion, who sings sweetly and laughs often. 

When Mira struck the first blow against what I thought I knew of the universe, against illusions soon to shatter that I had thought were truth, we were attending the coronation of a lesser Netar of the Kktil, recording the customs and ceremonies and unofficially enjoying the colourful celebrations. Mira was watching the dancing, her mouth widened in a ‘smile’. “It’s so pretty,” she said, her hairless face sheened with sweat under the hot sun. “I love the turquoise jewellery.” She pointed to the bright blue stones that bedecked the dancers. “I should buy some. Our homeworld doesn’t have any turquoise, you know. Only a few pieces we brought with us when we came.” 

It takes me a little while to understand what she said. It is only later, during the feasting, that I turn to her again. “You said your homeworld doesn’t have turquoise. Only… what you brought with you. Do you mean turquoise you have bought offworld, since you joined the spaceways?”

I learned in a Latin Studies class (with a chill white dude professor) that when the Europeans first saw Aztec cities they were stunned by the grid. The Aztecs had city planning and that there was no rational lay out to European cities at the time. No organization.

When the Spanish first arrived in Tenochtitlan (now downtown mexico city) they thought they were dreaming. They had arrived from incredibly unsanitary medieval Europe to a city five times the size of that century’s london with a working sewage system, artificial “floating gardens” (chinampas), a grid system, and aqueducts providing fresh water. Which wasn’t even for drinking! Water from the aqueducts was used for washing and bathing- they preferred using nearby mountain springs for drinking. Hygiene was a huge part if their culture, most people bathed twice a day while the king bathed at least four times a day. Located on an island in the middle of a lake, they used advanced causeways to allow access to the mainland that could be cut off to let canoes through or to defend the city. The Spanish saw their buildings and towers and thought they were rising out of the water. The city was one of the most advanced societies at the time.

Anyone who thinks that Native Americans were the savages instead of the filthy, disease ridden colonizers who appeared on their land is a damn fool.

Honestly disturbing how many of my posts criticizing media get responses along the lines of "well, guess I'm not watching/reading/listening to this now :/"

That is not a healthy way to view media. You all know that, right? It is not healthy to completely brush something off because of criticism from one person, and it's certainly not healthy to interpret that criticism as saying that something is irredeemable.

When I criticize media, I'm not saying "this is evil and terrible and disgusting and no one should ever like it or enjoy it". I'm saying "this has some issues, same as anything else, and we should discuss those issues in a healthy and constructive way." I am telling people to come to their conclusions using the information and opinions I've shared combined with their own experiences and opinions on the matter.

God. Stop "cancelling" Animal Crossing or Percy Jackson or whatever and just learn to be critical of the media you consume instead of accepting everything, positive or negative, at face value.

7-10$ for a bottle of cheap alcohol of your choice at your local liquor store.

However much you want to spend on frozen fruit, juice, and yogurt

Alcohol takes longer to freeze than water, but most home freezers can get down to around 15-20 degrees F, which is where you want to aim. 

Fill just over half your blender with frozen fruit

Slop some yogurt on top, idk like a half cup?

Pour wine into the blender until the ‘fill’ line is about a quarter-up. 

BLEND THAT MOTHERFUCKER LIKE IT INSULTED YOUR GRANDMA. 

You want the texture to be pretty thick (thicc), because a thick smoothie will usually harden beautifully in the freezer - forms a nice solid popcicle.

If its too thin, add more fruit. 

Pour your new slurry of goodness into your popcicle molds

If there’s empty molds, repeat above steps for more delicious sludge. Maybe switch flavors?

Stuff into the freezer. Make sure freezer is set to ‘really freaking cold’ (alcohol freezes at a lower temp than water) 

Wait a day or two. 

(Eat the leftover smoothie) 

VICTORY

If you’re not into alcohol, just replace the alcohol with a red or white juice and you’re good to go. I don’t recommend citrus fruits/juice because they can interact badly with dairy. You can leave out the yogurt and replace with half a banana or avocado if you REALLY want to use citrus and want to keep the smoothness. 

You can also google delicious fruit smoothie recipes for ideas on fruit combinations. 

You can also just use chocolate ice cream and coffee with bailey’s and kaluhua to make a fantastic chocolate popcicle. 

Wine is only 11.5%–13.5% alcohol, so splashing a bit of vodka or rum (usually around 40% alcohol) can EASILY get the mix to have ‘more alcohol than a glass of wine)
