Let’s all not forget that celebrities that have chosen to speak out and have faced pressure to stop, or simply been dropped from deals and work because of their stance.
And let’s also remember the names who could’ve spread awareness and instead chose to tiptoe around the fact that Israel is committing genocide. If they were going to speak up, the least they could’ve done is known what they were speaking up for instead of either blatantly supporting Zionism or going with the bs “it’s a two sided conflict” line.
Gal Godat. Is a known supporter of the IDF, and don’t come in the comments saying it’s compulsory - she supports their actions. She’s a Zionist.
Scarlett Johnansson. Did an ad with Sodastream in 2014. SodaStream has HQ in Israel, but has factories built on stolen Palestinian land. When asked if it was a mistake, she said, “no, I stand behind that decision. I was aware of that particular factory before I signed. And it still doesn't seem like a problem”. She had to step down as Oxfam ambassador. And she refused to acknowledge that SodaStream was in the wrong even after Oxfam, the UN, and the International Court of Justice ruled that it was. She also used the ‘NGOs shouldn’t be involved in politics line’.
Rihanna. Has also refused to acknowledge Israel’s actions. First in 2014, when she deleted her freepalestine post to write something more “balanced” supposedly after reading more into the issue, in which case it should’ve been the opposite. And again in 2021, when she also stayed on the ‘there is a mutual conflict’ side.
Seth Rogan. Has been pro-Israel, until he said he wasn’t and that he was told lies when he was young, though he has pretty much refused to even mention Palestine since then.
Simon Cowell. Donated to the IDF.
Malala Yousafzai and Greta Thunberg: really wouldn’t expect them to try tiptoe around the issue and say that both sides are losing when everyone knows it’s not a two-sided or mutual conflict.
No, these people don’t owe us anything, but like has been said multiple times, if they are silent now, they would’ve been silent in 1941. It’s not a conflict, it’s genocide. Know who you look up to. It’s not hard finding the moral high ground when one side is fighting for survival and the other is murdering children.
