When I was 15-16, I talked my family out of visiting zoos (something weād always loved) and even told people I no longer wanted to be a vet (my dream since 8) because I āloved animals too much.ā Basically, I was a genuinely animal-loving kid with a computer who trusted the first thing I saw on Google, which was usually PETA.
All this to say⦠you can change your mind. You donāt have to cling to something when you have learned the information you were given was incorrect. You can grow.
Hey kids, you need to start worrying a little less about getting ā#moggedā and a little more about getting ā#smoggedā. This is an Air Quality Index public service announcement.
The funniest thing you can add to any piece of media is a boy detective. Breaking Bad needed a 13 year old child who goes around looking for clues to the caper and whatnot.

have you reopened the wound? will you reopen the wound? when will you reopen the wound?
HI LETāS SHARE NICOLEāS WORDS ON THE SUBJECT!Ā
It has been literal years but every time I see Martinās tweets posted somewhere and his word is shared as truth while her post is not sharedĀ it sort of reiterates the fact that we trust men to speak about feminism more than we believe women who experience it.Ā
Interesting, innit?Ā https://medium.com/@nickyknacks/working-while-female-59a5de3ad266
Reading her account of how their boss treated her blows me away. Men are so emboldened that they will literally admit to illegal discrimination casually and face no consequences.
In all the years of seeing this post Iāve never seen a link to her side. Didnāt even know sheād written one.
Adding screenshots of her post. His whole post is there without needing a link. Hers should be, too.
Also, she posted this is 2017! Itās fucking 2020 and Iāve seen his side of this for years, but it took 3 years for her side to make its way to my dashā¦
Iāve reblogged his story at least twice; itās time for Nicoleās.
Reblogged him, bout time I got to reblog her.
Iāve never seen either side of this story, so sure, Iāll reblog this.
i am of the sincere belief that if ur on ur computer a lot you should visually customize it to high hell and back not just for funsies but also because it has literally made me less depressed before. its kind of like how rearranging your bedroom is good for your brain, yknow. i do stuff like this every few months
and if anyone wants to follow suit
LIVE WALLPAPER: wallpaper engine. only thing on here that costs any money (its like 5 bucks on steam). im sure theres free alternatives but this one has a lot of presets and stuff so its less hassle and its what i use. might be a bad idea for lower end pcs tho
CUSTOM TASKBAR: retrobar on github (lots of different options)
CUSTOM CURSOR: theres a lot of places to find these, but rw-designer open cursor library is a good place to start
DISCORD: betterdiscord, im using the clearvision v7 theme with a custom background
EXTENSIONS (these are for firefox, might or might not exist on other browsers):
tabliss for the new tab theme
stylus for tumblr -> specifically the 'tumblr - custom dashboard pallette' theme for colors + bg, and this for the pre-twitterifcation layout
enhancer for youtube for custom youtube colors
the browser theme is just one i found on the firefox theme 'store'
hate when people say something along the lines of "we must get along so well because you are/i am [some astrological sign]" to me. what are you fucking talking about. we get along because im fucking nice. a decision which i regret when you say shit like that
Do you think tumblr will ever learn the difference betweenĀ āIām defending this person because I agree with them wholeheartedly and I am also like this personā andĀ āIām defending this person because your behavior is dangerous and you need to stopā
IMO, blurring the lines betweenĀ āIām defending them because theyāre rightā andĀ āIām defending them because youāre taking this too farā is step numero uno to cutting down the very existence of fair trial and democracyāeven in places where saying that might seem a little dramatic.Ā
Mob mentality is extremely strong in humans and itās also extremely dangerous. Mobs donāt think things through. Mobs kill and they destroy and they canāt be reasoned with. Someone trying to calm a mob down isnāt someone defending the ~problematic party~ Itās time we re-learn that.
Years before the covid pandemic began, author Naomi Kritzer wrote the charming, emotionally genuine short story "So Much Cooking," which was a pandemic log through the eyes of a cooking blog. The premise is that the author is a home cooking blogger raising her kids, and then a pandemic hits--and bit by bit she's feeding not only her own, but her sister's kids, some neighbors' kids, and so on, in a situation of pandemic lockdown and food shortages.
It's very good, and was prescient for a lot of the early days of the covid pandemic. I found myself returning to it often in the first couple of years because of how steadfast it was in its hopefulness.
Last year she wrote a novelette, "The Year Without Sunshine," which attacks a similar problem in a similar way; instead of pandemic, this one is about the aftereffects of a distant nuke or a massive volcano explosion (it doesn't say), which has churned a great deal of dust into the air, causing massive damage to society and agriculture. The story covers one neighborhood, pulling together to keep each other alive--not through violence, but through lawn potatoes and message pinboards and bicycle-powered oxygen concentrators.
I recommend both stories. They're uplifting in a way that a lot of what I see lately isn't. They're a bit of a panacea for constant fearmongering about intracommunity violence and grinding hatefulness. We can be good to each other, if we try.
These are both excellent stories, and I also heartily recommend her story "Better Living through Algorithms."
Being a flop changed my life. The world is not my oyster, I am glowing. I walked into a pole this morning. There's very little I wouldn't do for $1,000
Yeah so anyways, contrary to popular misconceptions and fear mongering spread by bigots, post op trans women's vaginas are amazing actually. š
ID: A screenshot from the Reddit post linked, with text reading:
"So I'm going to refute some of the more popular myths about trans women's vaginas by directly describing my own fully healed experience. (I had surgery several years ago using a fairly standard penile inversion technique that used some spare internal mucosa to supplement the vaginal lining. Recovery sucked, but it wasn'tĀ thatĀ bad.)
Yes, all the normal parts of vaginal anatomy are present. I have a vulva with clitoris and labia, a vagina, I can pee normally, etc etc etc.
No, I don't have visible scars. Some of us do, but they're usually not prominent, especially after a few years. Internally, thing must look quite normal too, since I've passed as cis during a pelvic exam with a speculum.
No, it's not an open wound and it won't heal shut if I don't dilate. It's not a piercing, it's a vagina. I don't dilate at all, and not only do I not lose depth, but I can take a fist if I want
No, I don't have to wash my vagina out. It has its own flora, so douching would generally be a great way to get an infection; luckily, it cleans itself. Yes, it smells and tastes normal.
Yes, I have totally normal sensation in my vagina, clitoris, g spot, etc. Yes, I can orgasm. Yes, I can self-lubricate. Yes, I have totally normal vaginal muscles (the vaginal canal transects the pelvic floor muscles, that's why you can grip and do kegels, though my pelvic floor is stronger than most through a lifetime of kegels).
No, I'm neither immune nor unusually prone to STIs, BV, yeast infections, or UTIs.
Yes, I can cis pass while having sex. No, I don't pre-disclose before casual sex, though I also tend to meet partners in trans-positive environments.
Yes, everything feels like it "should"; nothing feels out of place or misaligned, unlike before surgery, and really the only surprise was how unsurprising everything feels.
No, I don't miss my old equipment at all. I do enjoy wearing a strap on sometimes, but that's pretty common among wlw."
I'm a CNA. My job is 90% changing diapers or helping people pee. We see a lot of genitalia. And while I haven't had a trans woman patient yet, I once had a coworker tell me about the time she did, and she had absolutely no idea until the patient told her. And mind you, we work in nursing homes, so this was an old woman. Her surgery easily could have happened 30 or 40 years ago, before recent surgical techniques and innovations. And still, a woman who looks at vaginas and vulvas for 40 hours a week couldn't tell the difference. Anyone who tells you that trans women's vaginas are anything less than amazing is just lying.
passing in public makes me feel like white shrek

as someone who is lowkey obsessed with how the odyssey is structured i find this diagram by james redfield very satisfying:
"[A pattern] based on strict alternation. Odysseus faces two kinds of dangers; he may be killed before he gets home, or he may be induced to stop on the way. He faces violence and temptation." (from Redfield's 'The Economic Man')
