For the longest time I bought the cheapest art supplies I could, only to find that when you invest in the quality supplies, your work transforms. From higher pigment colors to paper that works with your water (not against it) and allows you to create new techniques you didn't know existed for yourself. What I'm learning (*and still learnings) is to invest in yourself. To believe that you're worth the time/money/energy. I'm a saver, I worry about money, and I'm learning to let that go in hopes that something more serving will flow. If you could see my sketchbooks from 10-years ago you wouldn't know they were by the same person. Actually, if you could see my sketchbook from 2-years ago you'd probably think the same thing. Like all good things, practice makes present. Perfection isn’t the goal, my craft will continue to grow and change but it will never be as good as it is in my head. But each day I show up at the easel ready to keep creating. Playing with shape, form, color, and story to create something new. This Valentine's day I want to learn to love myself as much as this man loves me. To see the beauty he sees even when I have toothpaste all over my face (a great trick for healing zits). ♥️ I'm loving the creative spirit I've always had but never think is good enough. 🖤 I'm loving the skin I'm still trying to clear up after 3-years of adult acne. ♥️ I'm loving the body that takes me places, helps me move, and allows me to create, even though I often feel like we're at war with each other (but have to remember we’re not) 🖤 I'm loving the quiet voice of my heart that I often shut out in order to listen to my brain. She's wiser than I (or brain) give her credit for. ♥️ Most importantly I'm loving myself for everything I am, everything I'm not. The light side, the dark side, and all the in-between. I'll never be perfect nor will I live up to everyone else's expectation but if I could love myself the way that I know my husband loves me, I think this world would be a much more beautiful place...at least through my eyes. Exactly one year ago today we celebrated me coming into a new decade with a tea party filled with my favorite women. As of today, je suis trente et un ans ,(I'm 31 years old! and obviously in the process of learning french...finally!) We've celebrated with a trip to the mountains, ferrero rocher cupcakes, dinner with the parents at the most elegant restaurant, and my favorite meal tonight....lasagna (a gluten free edition). All this to say, I believe in celebrating life whenever you have the chance, which is why I love birthdays so much. And am a little sad to see the closing of yet another Katiepalooza!
