Forgot to post this here but this was when I was in a very creatureverse time of my life in February (?)
Creatures featured (from left to right) @muirin007 âs, mine, @rosietealeaves , @dross-the-fish âs, and @gauntlettoart âs. It goes without saying that the Big Blue Baby belongs to Guillermo del Toro, but alas, I do not know his tumblr dark web account (which I feel in my bones he must have). Had to draw Rosieâs creature in more detail w/ bonus Christine as well.
Siri, play "Creatures of Love" by The Talking Heads
The funniest part of having a hot monster in any Frankenstein adaptation is that basically means that Victor did that on purpose. Plenty of corpse bits out there, but this dweeb went no! He must have good bone structure! A nice arse!
This is less a funny fact and more something the original audience would understand innately: that physiognomy connected goodness (and evil) to physical traits, so in designing a new being, Victor was doing his best to make a good being by making him beautiful.
This was socially pervasive and not unique to Victor. You ever read a Sherlock Holmes story and note how often people are described with âcruel mouthsâ or âspiritual handsâ or âintelligent foreheadsâ? Or just why literature often goes into such detail in general describing someoneâs features and proportions? Itâs conveying characteristics about the person for the reader to assume from physical characteristics. Many of these characteristics were measured for âcriminal aptitudeââthereâs a TON of ugly, racist history you can dig into behind that.
It also hasnât gone anywhere despite being more subtle: just look at all the âpeople who arenât problematic age well!â nonsense thatâs so popular, or even âthe monster is hot actuallyâ reading. People see attractive people and assume theyâre good, or people read a character as a good person and assume theyâre attractive.

Summary:
Remy is back in New York after some time away, and gets to introduce two of his favorite people to each other.
Neither Virgil nor Roman is particularly pleased about this, at least at first.
So I reread your series a lot and this time I noticed that you keep saying "Its not like Thomas is going anywhere," or something similar and it's making me think that something is gonna happen to Thomas!
Anyways, I finally read your newest chapter of dead poets society (I think that's what the Roman and Virgil one is called) and it's really good!! I really wasn't expecting Roman to tell Art!!
sometimes the simplest solution is to tell the truth, even if it seems like a bad idea.
Well, I mean, idealy, Thomas would be able to move on and not be a ghost any more and go to Heaven or whatever's next.
But it's mostly just Thomas being depressed at being trapped as a ghost.
Ah, dang, I was hoping it was a future plot point or something...
Like Thomas stops being attached to the house and is instead attached to the 4 of them so wherever they go he goes. Or something idk. Im always a sucker for a happy ending

Chances are youâve seen Fayum mummy portraits, the very realistic and warm panel paintings depicting the people of Roman Egypt between the 1st century BC and the 3rd century AD.
Theyâre breathtaking and very moving. Familiar faces, so human and so beautiful in their humanity. Most of them have been divorced from their purpose, torn from the bodies of the people they depict.
It is a different feeling entirely to see them in their original context.
This boy died before he could finish growing that mustache. Someoneâs beloved son, crowned in golden laurels for all eternity, swaddled in linen. He is in there. The depiction of his face covers his face. The other portraits have lost their subject, greedily taken by those who wanted to admire their beauty without acknowledging the profound grief they represent.
I like âpentapodactylâ tremendously!!! but hate âchiroâ in this context, and I donât know why. Obviously I have no authority to be the arbiter of this but I do feel strongly!!
Thereâs a gorgeous rhythm to:
Cephalopharyngeal pentapodactyl monstrosity of the alarm
Cephalopharyngeal pentapodactyl monstrosity of the alarm
Quick-swimming scrabbler, you bring in the terror and also the power to charm
Siphon and knuckle and mantle and nail, hiding a sachet of dye
What thoughts do you write in the deeps and the dark, what images form in your eye?
Little things to know for artists just now coming to (or returning to) tumblr:
Remember that âlikingâ a post doesnât add it to anybody elseâs dash or spread it around; only reblogs do that!
Even if you have no followers, your art will be seen if you tag it appropriately. #art #original #oc are common basic ones but you should also tag any relevant themes and content like #animals #horror #fantasy #mermaids and so on. People following or checking those tags will see them!
Unlike tiktok, instagram and twitter it is considered normal (and should be) to interact with posts no matter how old they are. Thereâs no expiration on reblogging or commenting, including re-reblogging your own posts or adding new thoughts to them.
They only added this in recent years, but you can click on your own post in your dash to see all the comments and tags.
Tumblr is the only social media I know of where a lot of people routinely use the tag field to add personal thoughts and opinions, so donât miss out on that as another source of feedback and commentary on your work!
Unconstructive negativity or unsolicited criticism is much rarer and more frowned upon here, so the likelihood of a comment that really amounts to just âthis sucksâ is a lot lower. People who do that just get ripped to shreds, really.
Valentine's day was approaching, and Roman was approaching a panic attack.
âYou donât understand, Thomas!â He cried, flinging himself onto the couch in despair. âI can think of nothing that sufficiently would express to my beloveds how I feel about them.âÂ
In the kitchen, he could hear the kettle switch on.
âTea is not going to help!âÂ
âWhat about cocoa?â Thomas muttered without becoming visible.Â
âNay, not even that.â Roman flung an arm over his eyes.Â
âYou tell them how much you love them every day.â the ghost said helpfully. âThey probably know.âÂ
âThatâs just it, I must somehow exceed the normal affection I display. Itâs special.â
âNeither Virgil nor Logan believe that, and Patton would be happy with chocolates.â
âI canât get him chocolates, heâll eat the entire box and make himself sick.â Roman protested. âI canât even get Virgil or Logan chocolates, because Patton has no self control when it comes to food.âÂ
Thomas wished he could deny that, but heâd also watched Patton cook twice as many cookies as he needed, because he knew heâd eat half of them before the bakesale, even if heâd packaged them up neatly in little boxes ahead of time.Â
âLogan likes baked goods better than chocolates, right?âÂ
âIâm still not allowed to use the oven.â Roman moaned. âAnd he deserves better than anything I could make.â
âRoman it doesnât matter what he deserves, heâs got you-â
âAnd Virgil and Patton, and they too, are beyond the pale.âÂ
âYouâre pretty awesome too, Roman.â Thomas pointed out.Â
âAm I? I am running out of time, Thomas, how can I count myself as creative and romantic if I fail at the simple task of expressing my feelings?â
âMaterial stuff isnât important!â Thomas insisted, trying his best to shake the cushion Roman was holding over his face. âWords! âSo long as men can breath or eyes can see, so long lives this, and gives life to theeâ use your words, Roman.âÂ
âI am hardly the master bard, Thomas!â Roman shrieked. Thomas changed his effort to pushing down, with similar effect.
âYou donât need to be. They love you. Just be honest.â
âI am honestly unworthy.â  Â
âIâm sure they disagree, not to mention be mad youâre talking shit about yourself.âÂ
âThe sky cannot see how brilliant it is! Pattonâs love is the sun, brilliant and warm and life giving. He shines wherever he is and the loss of his regard is like a chill.â
âUh huh.â
âVirgil is more the moon, silvery and secretive, unchanging a changing both. A constant pull. Luminous. Mysterious and with a bit of a dangerous thrill.âÂ
âThen Logan is what, the stars?âÂ
âWhile he sparkles brightly no, heâs... Heâs the earth beneath my feet. The sky and itâs attendant wonders arch over him, and love with a force that crushes all else.â His hands clenched on the pillow. âStrong and beautiful, and supportive. Agh. My heart aches with it. How is it I can continue rather than simply laying here being wracked with love for them, every single day.â Roman pressed a hand to his heart. âAnd where do I stand when faced with such glory? I am in awe, wordless, and without breath to praise their magnificence!âÂ
Thomas managed to stifle a laugh.
âI donât think youâre taking my problem seriously!âÂ
âHe doesnât need to, youâre taking it too seriously.âÂ
Roman jerked upright, horrified, to see that not just Virgil, but all three of his beloveds were standing in the entranceway of the living room, wearing a varied collection of fond expressions.Â
âVile spectre.â Roman mumbled under his breath face darkening with embarrassment. âYou might have warned me.â
âI told you to use your words, mummy dearest.â Thomas teased breathlessly. âNot my fault you were too busy monologuing to hear the door.âÂ
Logan sat down on the couch beside Roman, and picked the smaller man up bodily, placing him in his lap. Without seeming to communicate at all, Virgil and Patton sat on either side and leaned in to squish Roman between them.Â
âI donât claim any special talent with words.â Logan said quietly, leaning down to press his cheek to Romanâs hair. âBut I may note that the sky is the commonality between your metaphors.âÂ
âThe sun and the moon share it and the earth looks up to it!â Patton said brightly. âSo that makes you the sky, the air that fills up.âÂ
âAirhead.â Virgil added, pressing a kiss to Romanâs cheek. âBlowhard.â he continued, dropping another kiss. âValuable, vital and you smell nice most of the time.âÂ
âVirgil!â Patton scolded. âCâmon, he said such nice things.âÂ
âIf he doesnât realise how much we love him, I donât think anything I could say would convince him.âÂ
Romanâs eyes did look a little wet but he was smiling.Â
âOh damnation and disappointment, I donât have enough hands.â He pressed back against Loganâs chest, a steady firm pressure, and grabbed one of Pattonâs hands and one of Virgilâs first pressing them to his lips, then to his chest. âI suppose itâs all right that you heard my weak musings about how much I love you.âÂ
Logan pressed his cheek against Romanâs hair again, and the others squeezed his hands.Â
âI love you like I love my jars. You are part of me and I am worse without you.â Roman said thickly, and they curled closer into eachother.Â
âYou are so, so loved.â Logan said softly, muffled by Roman's hair.Â
âAdored and adorable.â Patton agreed.Â
âHopelessly devoted to.â Virgil agreed after a momentâs thought. There was a faint noise like someone cooing over something cute in the next room; but they were very much wrapped up in each other.Â
This lasted for several long minutes.
âI mean I still want to shower you in mercantile affection.â Roman admitted.Â
âOrder an extra pizza.â Virgil joked.
âHmm, well they do offer those giant ones shaped like a heart âŚâ
Roman was derailed by Virgil shifting and blowing a loud raspberry in the hollow of his throat. Laughter sounded a lot like love.
