Thinking about all those youtubers and streamers who generally stayed nonpolitical as not to alienate anyone but who absolutely could not handle it when that hogwarts game came out and their progressive audiences were telling them to maybe not play/review that one and they'd throw a fat tantrum like "no you don't get it it's my job this is the biggest game of the year I can't not play it" and now we're a few months along and fucking nobody is talking about it anymore cause it wasn't even good. Was it worth it
i need some of y'all to consider that maybe the reason you're celebrated, welcomed, and prioritized in trans spaces isn't bc you're trans masc but bc you're white, thin, and conventionally attractive.
In case you're still reflexively on the fence when I proclaim that the conversation about AI has progressed to a truly batshit level of reactionary mythology, people on twitter are currently calling out the animators for Spiderverse for using a digital interpolator to assist with lining, because a documentary used the term "machine learning" to describe it.
Apparently using digital tools is taking work away from real artists. I am excited for 6 months time when the discourse has evolved into "all movies should be hand-inked on the inside of Palaeolithic caves to escape the corrupting labour-stealing influence of the pencil".
(Yes this is currently a minority opinion in this instance, largely because people just really like Spiderverse. But the fact that these arguments are being seriously made shows how far off the deep end this conversation has gone. These types of arguments for blanket technology bans already made little to no sense due to the double standard applied, and this demonstrates that by removing the double standard and taking them closer to their logical conclusion - all labour saving tools are bad, especially if they involve a spooky computer algorithm).
y'all ever think about how the paint bucket tool on MS paint is stealing jobs because someone could have been filling in those pixels by hand
How the media depicts the Apollo 11 mission:
Actual quotes from the Apollo 11 mission:
also according to michael collins when the three of them were discussing what neil armstrong should say when he first stepped on the moon, collins suggested armstrong say “Oh, my God, what is that thing?” and then scream and cut out his mic.
Everyone forgets Michael Collins and it’s fucking tragic.
This was in Sioux Falls South Dakota! The green sky is caused by large hail stones within the storm refracting back green light to the observer.

aren't gorillas gentle giants or something. i stay out of his way, he doesn't maul me, we have a nice time picking out clothes together in opposite sides of the mall
Male gorillas are super aggressive and territorial. Also they interpret nearly every human mannerism as a sign of aggression or a challenge. Smiling and eye contact are both things that zookeepers have to be taught to suppress when they’re in the vicinity of gorillas.
Well unless the mall is his native territory I think I'm fine, I wasn't planning on smiling at him
This is all irrelevant because the obvious answer is five black mambas. I mean, that’s not actually very many snakes, and malls are fucking huge. And unlike a gorilla you can definitely outrun a snake if it does show up. Find an open space in the mall where you can see any snake coming and just hangout out there. Fucking easy.
Misguided! I would much rather have a mallmate I can easily see and hear coming. I'm confident I can stay out of the gorilla's way, but if I step on a snake or one otherwise gets the jump on me, it's all over.
It's not just about the physical danger either, it's about my mental health. One gorilla, unless he's actively mad at me, I just keep a healthy distance between us and make sure I never get trapped. With the snakes, it requires a lot more constant vigilance
They should substitute "chimpanzee" for "gorilla" in this hypothetical.
if it was a chimp i'm taking the fucking snakes
Black mambas have a reputation build on being very venomous and very fast. I'm not sure why you would think you could outrun one (or five) in an enclosed space like a mall.
Malls usually have pretty slick floors, and escalators. I’d choose the gorilla simply because I think that would make an more interesting story (and a better-selling autobiography, I Survived the Mall Gorilla) but I think I’d stand a pretty good chance at avoiding the mamba. They’re fast and aggressive and will chase you but unless we started immediately beside each other I think my sneakers would have the terrain advantage over scutes.
this is too good to leave hidden in the replies
fucking enamored with the implication that this gorilla is fully intelligent but is trying to manufacture plausible deniability like the movie barnyard

a great thing about people transitioning is it presents us with scenarios where we have the perfect control variable to undeniably reveal sexism in the workplace. I read about a trans man neuroscientist who was told he was “so much smarter than his sister” (his sister being his pre-transition self)
and damn i knew the gaming industry was notoriously sexist (even more sexist than other stem fields, and that’s saying a lot) but seeing it laid out so clearly like this is so demoralizing.
Ben Barres was that neuroscientist
I don't know who needs to hear this but:
-"it only hurts a little" is still pain
-"I can ignore it" is still pain
-"I can cope with/manage it" is still pain
-"it's bearable" is still pain
-"I can push through it" is still pain
-"it doesn't hurt that much" is still pain
-"it doesn't stop me from doing x" is still pain
You don't need to be in agonizing pain to be in pain.

Hey y'all. With the Writer's Guild of America on strike, you might be hearing a lot more about something called "residuals," which are payments that the writers get for the studios continuing to air their work on reruns and such. Already I'm seeing people trying to frame the union trying to bargain for better residuals as greedy and unreasonable, so I just wanted to give you guys a peek into my dad's full, 100% real residual payments for writing some of the most watched episodes of American late night television.
Yeah lol. If u hear anyone trying to frame the conversation around residuals as writers being greedy, please do me a favor and punch them straight in the face ❤️🙃🙃
The last time I saw any real money from film and TV was in 2008, when I got a substantial cheque from the WGA (who administer residuals and such) for my share as cowriter of the Beowulf DVD. And then DVDs were done and became a niche market.
These days residuals are... well, something you can take a friend to dinner with. Not something you could pay a monthly mortgage or the rent with.
(And I'm fine. My TV work over the last 5 years has been subsidised by my book and comics work.)
But I just got one even smaller than the one cent residuals...

Tell me you don't understand what we're talking about without telling me.
"People don't want trans men to be masculine because they don't want us to be trans" IS the argument I have seen most people make– specifically to point out how you cannot separate the transphobia we experience from our manhood and masculinity. We are treated badly for being men because we are trans. They are intertwined experiences. If trans men were women and not men, we would not be hated (similarly, if nonbinary people were [agab] and not nonbinary, we would not be hated.) It's transandrophobia to describe the specific transphobic oppression directed towards transmasculinity as a unified concept, not trans [separate identity] + male [separate identity].
Additionally, I haven't seen anyone who thinks the reason we get denied HRT is because they hate masculinity or want to destroy men. We get denied HRT because we are seen as women, unable to make decisions about our bodies, perpetually children while also having an obligation to be mothers, so anything we do to "destroy" our bodies is an act of violence in the eyes of the patriarchy. That is based in a mixture of transphobia and misogyny– which transandrophobia also describes (although some may use transmisogyny to describe that). Every post discussing the transandrophobia of denying HRT I have seen focuses on the misogynistic aspects of it.
The hatred of masculinity re: HRT comes in how people treat testosterone as it relates to transmascs: calling it's effects disgusting and ugly, acting like transmascs become violent raging misogynists when they are on it, saying transmascs get grosser and less clean. This does not come from a systematic hatred of masculinity itself, but the hatred of marginalized masculinity + existing gender stereotypes about men and women.
Additionally, trans men and nonbinary people who were AFAB are more likely (32% & 36%) to be denied coverage for hormone treatment than trans women and nonbinary people who were AMAB (18% & 16%) (p. 95). So while trans women do also get denied HRT (and that is awful too), it is in fact an issue that people who were AFAB and trying to get testosterone deal with more. A group does not have to be the only ones to ever experience something in order to have that experience be strongly based in their group identity.
I had someone tell me almost this exact same thing (they don't hate you for being a man they hate you for being trans) when I was talking about a trans fem "friend" who specifically told me they hated me for being a man and wanted to "fuck the man out" of me to "teach" me to just be nonbinary
The length these people will go to in order to deny trans men/ mascs our own experiences.
