Pinterest STOP showing me ぴんくろはい スタゼノ I have beef with their interpretation
every time you make art of any kind, a stat that is not visible to the player goes up. also, this is the most important stat in the game
does singing in the shower count as art
does a strong as fuck ice mummy have ice powers
Okay what the hell is this artfight thing how does it work and dare i finally give it a try…………
An event where you "attack" other players by drawing their OCs for them for Points.
@maramahan, do you still participate in that one? I know you used to.
I see! I did make various character designs throughout the years but I don’t really have proper ocs (with clothes designs and all) 🤔 I’ll see what I can do
If staff reformed the ban system to stop banning trans women and used the resulting good will to re-introduce pornography, this site would become a juggernaut. It would swallow Twitter whole.

Really really funny and amazing to me that the latest tumblr meme/expression is apparently “I bet it would feel good as fuck to [x] (if you were [y])” like everyone just latched onto that phrase once their minds were opened to actively ponder the subjectivity of other forms of existence. Like yeah you know what there are a lot of things that I bet would feel good as fuck if you were a given object or animal or concept now that you‘ve given me the words to talk about it
hmm Ok red and blue shirt -> purple accessory (tie, lipstick) pipeline
Ok yknow the whole Being Chinese In An Anime Fandom thing I was musing on recently + reading some posts about Black fandom participants got me thinking about possible conversations that could be opened up around race for the sake of understanding our relationship to not only Dr. Stone but also our relationships with each other and media in general.
So. Blanket post for now (since it’s likely multiple topics may be brought up) but to all Dr. Stone fans of color, what are some thoughts you’ve had about the series/the fandom that you wish people would talk about/think more critically on? Are there spaces/individual fandom friends that you feel like you’ve been able to have these kinds of discussions with? What do you think people might be willfully or unconsciously ignoring in the fandom?
Oh, and I want to encourage full reblogs for this, unleash your thoughts! Complex feelings like this don’t have to be restricted to the tags! Don’t even be afraid to criticize ME for my biases if you think I’m also contributing to fandom blind spots.
White people can reblog to help reach more eyes but fair warning I will be blocking anyone who tells me I shouldn’t bring race into fandom discussions on sight. I personally don’t have time or energy to debate people on something so critical to humanity’s relationship with art.
fellow Chinese here !!
I think dr stone has a bunch of things worth analyzing, but if we’re going to keep the discussion race focused then I’ll stick to that for now. Dr stone has a very largely Japanese cast, with most the Americans that are featured being white. There Are people of color in Dr stone, but I feel like they get kinda shoved to the side or aren’t given as much attention as the white or the Japanese characters which makes sense I guess…? Like it never felt like the story went out of its way to exclude anyone, but it is probably not as inclusive as it could’ve been considering one of Dr stones major themes being about how ANYONE can do science. Wouldn’t it be cool to show Many different people from around the world actually Doing science if that were the case? I may stand corrected on this though because I haven’t read the manga. Please lmk !!
Also I wonder about some of the treasure islanders character designs… but I’m def not qualified to speak on that. I’d LOVE to hear other peoples opinions on that though
I personally love talking to you, bird! lol, but I have a few fandom friends I’m sure would be down to have conversations about these topics with me, we just haven’t yet lol.
And I think a lot of the reason we haven’t is because… it feels too Debbie downer? Like we’re talking about how great Dr stone is and then suddenly it’s like “yeah but racism in fandom?” I think poc don’t want to speak up because we’re pretty afraid of making everything about race. It’s definitely smth important that needs to be discussed but often times gets dismissed as “not that deep” or “not the point of fandom” because “fandom is supposed to be fun” I agree that sometimes discussions about race aren’t “fun”, but even so we can glean a lot from perspectives apart from our own, and that can be fun in its own right!
So I encourage anyone reading this to talk about things like this more often, if portrayals of certain characters of color bother you then talk about it! Even if you’re dismissed there are always people willing to ask about it, and tbh the ones dismissing you are probably the problem!!
That being said, what if you’re white? Tbh most poc do not really care if you ask about their views, most are Delighted to share their opinions actually! You aren’t “basic white foreigner” to a lot of us as long as you’re genuine, yk? So even if you’re white youre free to making inquiries and stuff. We always want more perspectives and thoughts in discussion! I do not want to be that person that’s like “oh but white people can’t say anything and give their input because … you’re white youre not the minority” but it still holds true to a degree! Basic manners tbh, don’t be worried about stepping lines and stuff, just don’t feel entitled…? You’re not necessarily responsible for the horrible things some of your ancestors did, but you have the responsibility to be aware and to understand if other people may be upset with that!
Despite me just saying that racism discussions get marked as “not that deep”, I think any “rules” for engaging in these discussions aren’t that deep. The conversations themselves are very important, and respect is very important, but it is not supposed to be social chess lol. Just be respectful, don’t give an opinion if you don’t really have the credentials to do so, basic basic stuff!! To be clear: we want MORE discussion, not less.
I think I yapped a lot and am starting to get incoherent, but feel free to fully reblog me too for clarification or anything, I love discussing this kind of stuff!
Thanks for the insights Flute! Good point on trying to open the floor for genuine questions from white people, I definitely didn't mean to imply that white folks shouldn't say ANYTHING on the post, and I think you're very right-white people are encouraged to bring up questions they might have about the perspectives of fans of color on any subject, the only caveat is that you must be prepared to deal with hearing things that are uncomfortable!
Ten billion percent agree with you on diversity in science being a great message that Inagaki could have explored but conspicuously didn't, at least, not to the extent he could have. I have a whole rant locked and loaded about some of the weird things the manga gets into in the next arc regarding international relationships (WHAT THE FUCK WAS UP WITH THAT SCENE IN SPAIN, INAGAKI????) but I'm curious to see what other people picked up on first.
I feel like most people do agree that the treasure islander designs are confusing at best, and that's definitely something that people could talk about. If someone wants to make a post on that on their own time I'll reblog it for sure, or if y'all want to see some of my own observations as a jumping off point I could also try to facilitate some of that.
People are definitely hesitant to talk about racism and racial themes in fandom for all the reasons you outlined, hence why I'm trying to facilitate at least the start of what could be some fruitful and engaging conversation! It is that deep and honestly why shouldn't it be deep, I feel like every time we engage with art it's an opportunity to enrich our understanding of the world and the people around us, as well as our understanding of ourselves.
Oh yeah and if people feel like sending me asks about this would be easier than reblogging that might be more efficient alkdfskdfjld
Hi!! Nigerian American, (First Gen Igbo to be specific)here.
So this will short considering I'm feeling a bit lazy, and am kinda tired, but-
In regards to race in Dr Stone, I have two key things that I'd like to highlight. One, being about what country in Africa was it, that Senku went to. Like, this is a really big pet peeve of mine, when authors, or just really people in general, but mostly authors, talk about a character being from, or going to Africa, just saying Africa. As in the don't mention a specific country, city or anything, they just treat African as if it were one whole country, when it is in fact THE SECOND LARGEST CONTINENT In the WORLD!
Not only that, but it's so ethnically diverse, with over 2000 spoken LANGUAGES! (For context Nigeria in itself has over 500 spoken languages, Igbo being one of them.) So there really shouldn't be any generalizating the continent of Africa as a whole, ESPECIALLY when all the countries visited in Dcst manga and anime, that are not in Africa, are specified. 😕 Like it actually pisses me off fr.
The second, I really don't like how the Treasure Island inhabitants have 4c hair. Like, there might be who think that it's just hair and that it doesn't really," but it DOES MATTER. Also it's the fact that on treasure Island there are NO DARK SKIN PEOPLE, but they have 4c hair, like make that make sense.
If you're going to have people be, it's kinda giving those people in Japan who get afro textured hair, emulate our culture, but can't name 5 black artists.
It's weird, because in Treasure Island, it's not like there aren't inhabitants there that don't, have looser curl patterns in their hair, because there is. So it's just weird to see that they have full on afro-textured hair, when none of the astronauts had african, or really close(or just any)bantu descent in them; and when Japan's environment would not have brought up the need for people to evolve with Afro-textured hair.
Honestly It's just weird
Also, but in the past, I'm made a little post here, wondering about some countries would be in regards to the petrification now. It's not really an analysis, but whatever.
post-petrification things from pre-petrification
And since you mentioned it, Also I'd love to here about your Spain rant. After all, I kinda have some problems with the whole exploration/world revival arc as well.
Edit: Also in regards to Maya and treasure Inhabitants, but how light there skin is.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and feelings! Your frustrations are valid and important, though to be fair you don’t need me to tell you that. I want to try to acknowledge and repeat your talking points as a way to highlight and perhaps inspire other people to add their thoughts to this too!
OOF that is a great point on how non-African and non-Black authors treating the continent like a single country is reductive and shows a clear bias towards the other continents since as you said, other countries are mentioned! There’s also the implication that lions are found all over the continent, which I feel like might contribute to the “Darkest Africa” trope of Africa being entirely desert wilderness. It would be very easy for Inagaki to look up what countries overlap with lion habitat and pick one for Senku to visit, but he chose not to.
I was wondering if anyone would comment on the islanders textured hair despite having no explanation for it and also being lightskinned. When you say “it’s kinda giving those people in Japan who get afro textured hair, emulate our culture, but can’t name 5 Black artists,” I think that’s really important because you’re calling it out for what it is—cultural appropriation. Taking elements of a culture that doesn’t belong to you and using them like a cool accessory is 100% appropriation, and you hit on how Japan is notorious for doing this to elements of Black culture. Side note if other people didn’t know, you see this a lot in East Asia as a consequence of rap getting popular there, which on the surface is really cool (yay sharing music across cultures!) but people are…not great at learning about the history and context associated with it.
It gives the impression that Inagaki and Boichi wanted to make the islanders seem more (forgive me for saying this) “exotic” than any of the other characters without caring that they’re equating Black features to that sort of thing, and yet drawing the line at having anyone be darker than milky pale in skin tone or having any of the astronauts be Black. So your feeling that it’s “weird” is definitely more than just pointing out how illogical it is, it’s drawn from your recognition of racist patterns in media and real life that hurt people.
Thanks so much for sharing that post! Even if you don’t consider it analysis I’m thankful for your thoughts!
Oof I might need to take the time to put that Spain rant into a decent format…I’ll see what I can do after work today fjshdj.
I’m anime only and notoriously late to everything (haven’t seen past S4Pt1 and never really cared about spoilers anyway), but I’m gonna point out the things that immediately summoned a “Hm. Again?” From me during my time watching as a person of color (Afro-Caribbean American for the record)
Notably in this I’m gonna use the phrase “of color” to refer to nonwhite, non-Japanese, non-Ishigami villagers, AKA the people considered “other,” mostly out of a lack of better general terminology since I don’t know for sure where all of them fall. If there’s a better catch-all, I’d love to take it.
- Carlos, the only really clear Latino from what I can see in the US group, is specifically the driver to a wealthy white woman. And he’s hopelessly pining after her. Man. Man……….
- The other two characters of color, Brody and Maya, are absolutely MASSIVE. That on its own isn’t inherently bad, but its BOTH of them, and I especially dislike the way they do Maya*…..
-… It’s like they inverted Nikki- Nikki is considered butch because she’s strong but is actually very feminine. Maya is muscular, and…. That’s it. Played entirely for how scary she is, and still bigger than Nikki. Nikki loves singing and it’s played relatively straight, while Maya is so bad at it it’s considered torture. Her big thing is meat and food and battle. She doesn’t seem to be a science character either? Basically, falling super far into the “black women are inherently masculine and their femininity isn’t real” and “mentally inferior” set of stereotypes. Again. She seems to be the ONLY woman of color so far.
- The Treasure Islanders have a whole system based on this idea of some “exotic” culture that’s all about using women as sex slaves. Regardless of whether or not it’s “supposed” to be that way before the Minister’s takeover, “savages ravage innocent women” and “in a far-off backwards land, the leader’s got a sexy harem” are real life caricatures.
- I’m ALSO annoyed by there being no black Americans at least on the Soyuz despite later showing these hairstyles on Treasure Island. I’m doubling down on that.
- Hey. So you know how I mentioned being Afro-Caribbean at the start of this? That just means I’m extra peeved with the whole setup of “we need to go to this completely independent island to steal back what rightfully belongs to us and fix their savage government while we’re there, while installing someone who grew up with our new CIVILIZED society as ruler so he can make better decisions and be friendly to us, but it’s ok because he’s actually their lost prince anyway. Absolutely no one sensible would resist, because we brought cute little fireworks and freed them from a problem they DEFINITELY weren’t actively planning to resist on their own when we arrived. What do you mean why didn’t we actually work with the villages themselves? We have this one girl and she’s chill with us, and our ruler raised abroad who doesn’t know anything of his birth culture stop asking questions.”
And everything I do know past Season 4 Part 1 is still out of context, so once I actually catch up, there’s no telling what’s gonna happen to this list.
*Note: I don’t believe it’s ever stated if Maya is black or mixed or Latina or what have you, but she’s drawn with extremely curly hair and big lips and has the surname “Biggs,” so she’s reading as a woman of color regardless, even with lighter skin. Jesus do I hate how they’re drawing her by the way…. Reminds me a little of Sister Krone from TPN
Yess thank you @theory-basket for pointing out those same problems and pet peeves I’ve had watching it.
I also want to add, or rather really emphasize again, the point about the soyuz not having any black character, or brown character in general, on it.
Before the reveal that people in the US, including black people, had also independently revived, for 3 seasons I believed that the only humans awake and living on this earth were senku and the people he revived, and the soyuz descendants, none of which have any melanin on them.
And even knowing that senku & co will eventually revive every human, and that brown/black people also revived at the same time as him anyway, the lack of any brown person on the soyuz crew still means that for these thousands of years, during which there continuously has always been people living on this planet, during which “humanity has persisted”, well, okay, we can say “humanity” has persisted, but there weren’t any brown people included in this humanity.
If none of the petrified humans had revived, and humanity had just started over from the soyuz crew alone, brown (and anyone else not represented in the crew) people and their cultures would have been wiped out from existence, and history*.
And it hit me as a very sad and fucked up thought!!
But it’s a very casual and insidious display of racism. Precisely because I’m sure if it was pointed out to inagaki he would see it, but it’s clear that when writing he just never thought about it, and about these implications
This fact in-story on its own wouldn’t even necessarily be bad or racist either, it would have been really nice actually, even if the soyuz crew remained unchanged, if this lack of diversity that extends to their descendance was, just briefly, in classic melancholic dr stone fashion, acknowledged as a sad thing. Which then would easily transition into the main goal and idea, reviving everyone, feeling even more meaningful. We’re saving diversity and culture. Everything is connected.
*well, to be fair about the “from history” bit, given how long the hundred tales are, it’s likely there is mention of other ethnicities and cultures in there (at least we’ve got that!) but that’s also a conjecture based on the assumption that byakuya & co would think of doing that; when discussing authorial intent I think we can safely say inagaki himself was not thinking about any of this
On a different note, to bounce off of the handling of poc vs japanese/white characters with a simple example, I just rewatched s4 ep8 with this scene and even just looking at it it’s so obvious:
Of course the 2 important main characters are the 2 who have the lightest skin colors and smallest/““conventional”” builds. And she’s not in this frame but then you can add luna to that.
(I’m also anime-only at the time of writing this btw)
based on this

really really really detest it when (usually older millennial and genX) cis women say shit like "welcome to being a woman!" or "that's how you know trans women are women!" and so on in response to hearing about instances of catcalling, sexual assault, workplace chauvinism etc. directed at trans women. in the first place it's blisteringly patronising, as if transfems are not and have not been constantly subject to misogyny throughout their lives both pre and post transition, but in the second it perpetuates this vile mindset that somehow receiving misogynistic abuse is validating of your womanhood. it's a head on the very same hydra that makes girls shamefully privately feel that they must ugly and undesirable if they're not catcalled or objectified or 'chosen' by sexual assaulters.
your identity, your dignity and your worth as a woman have absolutely nothing to do with how or why abusive people lash out at you. the insidious narrative that survivors should feel special on some level for having been worthy of their abuse is battered wife rhetoric. it's the perpetrator-system of violence grooming you to accept, and even shamefully yearn for, violence it always intended to inflict. and women are so often complicit in repeating the narrative back to each other. sometimes it's very well meaning and springs up out of the solidarity of shared experience, trying to reclaim power from situations where power was wielded against you, but sometimes it's lana del rey sadgirl coquette I need a man who'll slap me around so I know he cares. sometimes it's eating disorders and self harm. the twinning of femininity and female worthiness with suffering, associating the scars of misogynistic violence with acceptance of one's femininity by somebody who hates you, is profoundly unhealthy and profoundly unfair.
bottom line: trans women have never needed to be identifiable by their abusers at a glance to be subject to misogynistic violence. they have never even needed to be out. remember the early days of the internet when online culture was so outspokenly misogynistic as a baseline that most women just never disclosed their gender, never went on mic, never posted pictures? would anyone ever seriously argue that women weren't subject to misogynistic abuse online until they broke anonymity? and that being the case, would it ever ever seem appropriate to hear someone had been doxxed or sexually harassed for disclosing her gender and respond "heh, proves you really are a woman"?
womanhood is not contingent on suffering. womanhood is not contingent on suffering. womanhood is not contingent on suffering. the cart does not define the horse.
I'm really obsessed with bees and wasps, and last year I met a new friend in uni who not only was scared of them to death, but also hated them. Like really hated, she was the "I wish wasps just went extinct" type of person.
And this recently I was talking to her and mentioned her fear of bees and wasps. And she said: "you know, I really hated them my whole life. But then I met you and you talk about bees and wasps so much, they bring you so much joy. And it changed my view of them completely"
Turns out she just couldn't look at these insects in the same hateful way since meeting me. Not only because they bring happiness to someone important to her (me), but also because I showed her how cool, smart and important wasps and bees are.
Sometimes it takes just one happy nerd to change someone's views from hatred to respect.
Apparently today is Loving Day, named after Richard and Milford Loving, the interracial couple whose lawsuit against the state of Virginia resulted in interracial marriage becoming legal in the United States. And so this day was made as a holiday for interracial relationships. I think that's very cool and deserves a tumblr post. Happy Loving Day to everyone in interracial relationships!
