If there’s one thing Sith are REALLY REALLY good at, it’s manipulation and behind-the-scenes chess with other people.  Consider. Vader hates Palpatine’s guts and wants to see him dead/weakened. Vader also probably doesn’t give two shits about the Empire’s welfare. Therefore, I would not be at all surprised if Vader helped sponsor the Death when Palpatine proposed it, knowing it was a huge waste of resources and it would damage Palpatine politically when the whole mess blew up. Heck, he must’ve been over the moon when the moron said he wanted to build another one.

So...yeah. This is definitely a thing, and somewhere around sixth grade, I had a political awakening of sorts and decided that the whole pledge thing was BS. I have never recited the pledge since, and I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve stood for the flag since then as well.

As you can imagine, the first time I did this, my teacher took me aside afterwards and asked me why, and my response boiled down to “because pledging allegiance every single DAMN day is dumb and redundant.”

In light of the Yon-Rogg/SI deleted scene, has anyone noticed the parallel when Korath says "I stared into the face of my mortal enemy, and the face staring back was my own"?

That is a nice catch. I only have thought about what Korath said in the context of Yon overreacting at a Skrull simming Vers, but that seems extra significant now after we’ve seen the scene. The saddest part is that Yon doesn’t realise that he’s being treated worse than an enemy, and I really hope some day he actually gets to tell the shit computer to fuck off and blows up the mainframe side by side with Carol.

I’ve noticed the ‘ironic’ similarity between the Skrulls and the Supreme Intelligence a while ago. The SI tells the Kree the Skrulls are dangerous, they can shapeshift and see your recent memories so you can’t trust them. But at the same time the SI shapeshifts too and can see all your memories and thoughts and unlike with the Skrulls you don’t even know what the SI really looks like.

For me, the really scary thing is twofold. 

1. Near as I can tell, the Supreme Intelligence doesn’t have a solid form.

2. Actually assuming that the SI has a mainframe in one place is just dumb. A species as militaristic as the Kree are (or as the SI has shaped them into being) would never have the actual mainframe in a place they called the mainframe.

My personal take on it says that the SI is way sketchy and has been fucking with Kree civilization to the point where even its deluded itself into believing its own lies and half-truths.

Catholicism is not an aesthetic.

The Pope is not just “some guy” you can throw into your story as an (oppressive) authority figure.

The Blessed Virgin Mary is not some ambiguous pretty woman to be used as as pseudo-symbolism.

St. Joan of Arc is not your cool historical woman.

Rosaries are not pretty necklaces.

These people and things are not just… “things” you can just use as archetypes or “symbolism” for your story. They have histories, they have stories, they have meanings.

Just gonna point out that there have been quite a few times during history when the Pope has been an oppressive authority figure. And at least from my perspective (as an admittedly non-Catholic person) it seems like the early Church did kind of turn the Virgin Mary into an ambiguous pretty woman for symbolism purposes. 

And c’mon. Joan of Arc was pretty damn cool. Possibly crazy, but pretty damn cool.
