one of my least favourite tumblrisms is the weird fervent belief in the virtuousness of physical violence. like the whole "um, clearly youve never been in a situation where you could get your ass kicked" in reponse to someone like, saying something rude. Like amiguita in a lot of places you can get your ass kicked for saying "i'm gay" or, like, anything with a foreign accent, there is actually no edifying or character-building trait to being in environments suffused with violent machismo! and it always has the implicit undertone of either a like, noble savage view of appalachians or just straight up racist stereotypes

the thing that's missing here is that if you want gay meetups at the local cafe, library, rec center etc. is that you need to put up a flyer that reads GAY? WANT TO MEET OTHER GAY PEOPLE? DATE & TIME and see who shows up. if safety is a concern you talk to whomever manages the venue to see what can be done there

what these people are expressing is the desire to have these events arranged for them because they're too young (and too online) to realize that they can do it for themselves

But there is a gay café in Copenhagen, like with a permanent pride flag, specifically for gay people to go have a coffee or whatever, and I've been to one in Barcelona too. I'm sure there are others elsewhere, but I don't get out much, so those are the ones I know. This isn't a theoretical concept or something that would only be possible for specific events.
