Recently coming to terms with disability? So that’s… a thing. Idk how to use my wheelchair as well as I should and ngl advice is usually very welcome I just take forever to respond sometimes.

Literally have the best wife in the world, I won’t take any arguments. Our child knows more Spanish than we do Shout Out PBS (i know very little and it’s not good at all this kid is Obsessed with learning and I cannot keep up) (did y’all know there’s like… way more dwarf planets than just Pluto?? And why does this child know so much about the Hubble telescope? And groupers?? The fuckin intricacies of puffer fish diets because I said I thought they were cute?!)

I made a client cry today.

She was in because her cat is very very itchy and has lost a lot of weight. We did bloodwork, which she could barely afford... and we are by far the least expensive clinic in the area. We discussed flea control as I found flea dirt, but she couldn't afford that on top of the bloodwork.

So I went into our donated meds bin and found a nexgard sample, which i applied for her.

I turned around to make a quick note in the record about it and she started sniffling.

This poor woman is quite elderly and just lost her husband a couple weeks ago. The cat was his cat and he doted on it. She wants so badly to do right by his cat.

I hugged her for several minutes while she cried on me.

If you ask most vet techs, we will joke that we do this job because we don't want to deal with people. But it's also humbling to realize how many things that have happened in my life over the last few years that let me be at *this* clinic on *this* day and that i just happened to be the one available to get *this* appointment... where i was able to give her a small kindness in a harsh world, and a much needed moment of human connection.

So yeah. I made a client cry today, and I'm glad I did. She needed it a lot.

Stop calling the crumbs shit. None of you realize how hard it is to photoshop crumbs falling mid-air via a birds-eye perspective. They don't just have 'mid-air granola crumbs' on google, no one has ever thought of photographing that before. I had to color a bunch of boulders brown. I had to find images of various boulders and color them brown, whnich yeah, when I say it out loud, does make it sound like a funny euphemism for shit, but it's really more of a light brown color and it took a lot of time and effort, so stop.

it’s a shame more vampire media doesn’t pull from vampire bat behavior because they’re such sweeties. they can only survive their incredibly specialized diet because bats will share blood with colony members that didn’t find a meal! there’s evidence that suggests the donors sometimes initiate this behavior themselves by approaching hungry bats! the colonies are mostly harems of females with a few males but they’ve been observed letting unrelated males in when it gets cold so they can all stay warm! cute little social critters!

When I was at the natural history museum, the fossil section had stickers on the glass to engage children - things like "Flap your arms like a pterodactyl" or "Measure your hand against the mosasaurus." However the first of these I encountered, which I found alarming and threatening without context, was a sticker reading "Struggle like you are stuck in a tar pit"

my husband told me, after many years of being together, that when he was about 7 a teacher used to single him out for being disrespectful at school. Apparently his disrespectful offense was “smirking” too much???? So he got punished for smiling???? And eventually just trained himself to stop smiling so this teacher would leave him alone???? And that’s why he has such a stoic facial expression now and can’t smile for photographs.

It’s the only way men are able to discuss their issues because society taught them that they shouldn’t burden people with their issues or that their issues are meaningless or that their issues aren’t actually a thing. Sharing anecdotes with friends is one way of talking about it, because they feel comfortable enough to share. At the same time, they might just not know that the event was traumatic because it’s trauma y’all.

Dude this type of stuff makes me so angry.

Like one of my friends was being open about her bad relationship with her mom.

And my husband was like, "oh no I totally understand, that sucks"

And she was like "your a bro? What do you know about mom issues? You never even vent about anything?"

And he just shut down so fast.

He lived through his mother going insane and nearly killing his entire family.

But anytime he mentions something about not getting along with his mom, people will either give him the above type of response or tease him for having "mommy issues"

I'm literally the only one who actually let him tell the whole story and comforted him when he did.

Men have trama too and we should be taking them seriously when they talk about it.

Don't ridicule men for sharing feelings. Let them share. Don't roll your eyes at them or assume anything.

Just let them fucking vent.

No, I talked to her privately and explained why what she said came off as problematic.

Sorry I know my initial comment was kinda crass on this post but that's because it honestly frustrates me.

But IRL cuss words and Attitudes don't fix things.

Most of the time it just makes the other person more defensive and less likely to examine their behavior because they will view the situation as them being attacked not taught.

And the thing about people under attack is they don't think.

And they lash out.

And it just makes even more hurt and confusion.

More people need to be willing to sit down and just hear each other out.
