Even outside of the obvious moral reasons of supporting Harry Potter content…why would you want to watch it? From the jump it didn’t sound good. From the jump people were already writing harassment disguised as think pieces targeted at the child actors. From the jump they announced they were throwing black actors into roles they know will garner massive racist backlash that they have no intention of protecting them from. What about any of that seems appealing?

On top of that, just logistically, why is this tv show even needed? It’s a completed story. The books were completed with completed films. Why do you need a tv show? I keep seeing folks try to compare it to Percy Jackson, but Percy Jackson didn’t have a completed massively successful film series. It had some ok, halfway done films that never finished and that weren’t wildly liked. So there’s an actual logical reason for producing and trying to complete some form of visual media for it outside of nostalgia money.

I was too lazy to try doing makeup, and even when I had a vague interest I was kid without a job and why would I use my raven gathered stockpile of shiny things to pay for makeup when I could use it for food or to go to the movies?

By the time I had an actual interest in makeup I was an adult. Secure in my looks as I had been operating just fine in life with my naked face all this time, and my motivation was less “I need makeup to look acceptable to society” and more “I need to figure out how to make my face blue to match my tardis cosplay” which evolved into “wow I can have a blue face whenever I want, I didn’t have to be in cosplay. I can just be blue cause I want to be blue.”

And I’m old enough and knowledgeable enough now to recognize and have conversations regarding the fact that there are societal conditions that do play a part, capitalism and the patriarchy are always hanging in the background, but that I still enjoy it on a personal level.

For 4 years I woke up at 6 am, at least (I took the bus and for a year or two it came between 6:40 and 6:50). Morning showerers, or people who put effort into their hair or makeup, probably had to wake up even earlier. Then we all went to school and sat in a health class where our gym teacher told us that teenagers are supposed to get 10 hours of sleep a night. Genuinely implying that we were supposed to go to sleep at 8pm if we cared about our health. The dissonance made my head spin. I haven’t been in high school for years and I’m still mad about it. But in college you can choose your schedule, so you can choose to take late morning classes to let yourself sleep, or choose to have your day end early. And when you work, you get to clock out. I’m still so taken aback by people in the notes who claimed you need to be talking to people weekly or even daily to consider them your friend. how many people do you know? As an adult I feel like talking every day is sustainable with one person maybe 2 or 3 if your circumstances somehow are really conveniently aligned. yeah there’s people I talk to often there’s also people I don’t talk to for 6 months because there’s no way we’ll be able to coordinate time and energy and I still consider them my friends because this is real life and there isn’t a stardew valley esque hearts system based off of how many interactions we had this month

just fyi by the time youre in your 30s, most of the people you would call to help you cover up a murder are the people you text about twice a year. it's specifically because you can maintain the relationship on two texts a year that they are your closest friends. the reason everyone's interpersonal relationships are so unstable in your teens is because everyone's "best friends" are almost entirely circumstantial. you won't actually know which of those people are in for the long haul until the relationships have been stress tested by distance, conflict and silence.

This is so odd to me, as I have friends I see on a weekly basis, and then- it occurred to me, we do D&D/TTRPGs. One of the spouses of the group pointed out that, it seems like the tabletop gamers are the only ones who regularly have in person meetups, but I think that's the power of tabletop gaming. Yes, life absolutely gets in the way, but it forces us to find an hour or two a week where we can regularly squeeze in some dungeon crawling. Makes a lot of difference.

kurenai is a genjutsu prodigy and itachi praised her skill AND it was said that she rivaled itachi in genjutu. the only reason she lost is because kishi likes to take strong characters (usually women) and have them lose against male characters to show how strong the male characters are after building those women up to be legitimate threats.

Kishi was ass to all the women characters. Because he purposefully puts them in positions where the thing they excel at isn’t utilized properly.

Because yeah Kurenai is a beast at genjutsu. She’s also a prodigy herself, maybe not super powered child prodigy, but she made a big name for herself young. Which is why I think she would have been smarter than to confidently go head to head with Itachi purely on genjutsu, when he has a dojutsu that literally helps you see through genjutsu. But Kishi said nah

Or take TenTen. A weapons mistress. They try to play her off but she’s a 10/10 marksmen who’s so knowledgeable about weapons she can correctly use ones she’s never even touched before. So I think she would be smarter than to just throw weapons head on at the girl with the giant fan who can control wind. But Kishi said nah

It’s like he’s afraid he hyped them up too much in their 2 sentence introduction and had to try and humble them. Which considering they’re his own characters is just…off.
