1. COMMIT TO THE BIT
2. PARTAKE IN THE DIVINE ACT OF CREATION
3. LET THE SOFT ANIMAL THAT IS YOUR BODY LOVE WHAT IT LOVES
The thing that's really getting to me about AI art is that this is just megacorporations' way of to avoid paying people because why bother going through the hassle of paying an artist for their work when you can just use an AI to steal it for you.
We all know about the starving artist stereotype and the fact that artists are starving isn't because of the artist but it's because of their clients. So many people have divorced the art from the artist and never give a damn about them and so many times you see interactions that are boiled down to:
>> Client: I want *something so elaborate that it'd take a professional a month to make* in a week >>Artist: Okay, that'll be $100 >>Client: ExCUUSE ME
To use a real example of this
Only $3,000?! That's laughable and insulting especially considering just how much money Fortnite makes.
Megacorporations have always done their best to mass produce and undercut their workers but art has always been a huge problem. You can literally see the budget with art. But now with AI, it doesn't matter. A robot can now steal art from an artist that’s “too expensive”. This isn't even an over reaction, either, because it's already happening. Not only did these artists not consent to this, some of them even denied for it to be used.
This isn't the same thing as inspiration for humans. When humans use art as inspiration, it changes, grows, and evolves with their skill but a robot is just stuck like this. They just cut and paste work from something that took someone years of sleepless nights to do.
BTW, if you're an artist and a corporation does steal your work, you're not completely screwed (under US law). This reel does a good job of explaining what you can do if someone reuploads your work even if you didn't file for copyright.
Also, as someone who used to have an AI generated profile picture, I'd like to apologize. I always just saw AI as a fun toy and nothing more. I never thought AI generated pictures would actually replace artists.
Not to be dramatic but the whole AI art debacle has really brought home to me that mainstream audiences are so fundamentally indifferent to the ethics of how art is created. It makes me feel like people just want to shove their faces full of mindless generic content and don’t care about the ethics of where that content comes from. Sometimes it feels like—- like people really care more about fictional characters and the prettiness of cartoon anime girls than they do about the lives of the real human beings who actually labor to create the things they enjoy.
And while that’s not new to AI, I can’t believe that no one…cares? No one cares? Outside of professional artists it feels like everyone has mindlessly cheerfully embraced AI as a replacement without recognizing the horrible implications this has for art? It’s so frightening and awful and disheartening.
It’s like people simultaneously want art that captures Something about the experience of being human but aLSO don’t want human beings involved in its creation. They want to care about beautiful painted fake people but don’t want to care about the real people who created them. They want the illusion of life, but not the actuality. And while that’s hardly unique to ai it’s just…:(. :(
Hey, do y’all remember how Tencent said they were developing faceID AI to identify people in riots, and then they suddenly created an AI art generator to turn your selfies into anime?
Do y’all remember that time that someone discovered facial recognition cameras couldn't see through Juggalo makeup, then Facebook had a fun “see what you'd look like with Juggalo makeup” thing, and then facial recognition cameras could suddenly see through Juggalo makeup?
Do y’all remember how, on Twitter, Elon started a tirade against artists who ask for credit when their art is reposted, and he suddenly he created one of the first big art AI programs?
Do y’all remember how AI destroyed the field of translation, despite the inferiority of the machine translations, because people didn’t care about the quality of the translations? They just wanted it done for free?
Do y’all know how companies will see a lot of money going into a New Tech Thing (like, say, AI art apps) and will jump to try and implement that New Tech Thing into their tech? For example, how it felt like every big company and celebrity had an NFT to sell?
Just wondering.
‘Tis the season again
The pine tree will provide nourishment for him as he slumbers in his nylon cocoon, ready to emerge next winter and rebuild his christmas tree hoard. Nature is so beautiful!
I'm always saying dictionary-ass bullshit like "heretofore" and "by dint of" and I'm always so paranoid that it sounds like I'm being pretentious but I promise this is how I talk and I really am just a freak
when i was a kid someone told me "hate is a strong word, you shouldn't say it" and i went gosh you're right, so i went and found a thesaurus and memorized all the synonyms for hate. and i was walking around middle school unironically saying that i "loathe" and "despise" and "revile" things
[id: a venn diagram made of three circles labeled “being neuro-divergent,” “reading a lot as a kid,” and “being aro/ace spec,” respectively. where they overlap in the middle is labeled, “ppl assuming you’re pretentious.” end id]
.... well I'll be damned
big fan of despite the nickname dick virtually disappearing from society and being used primarily as slang for a dude’s schlong, dc has not caved. fandom has not caved. nightwing’s name is dick grayson. wtf about it HUH?
That time he went by Rick? Out of respect, I do not remember it
Really beginning to prefer Tumblr to Twitter purely on the basis that when I say something like, for example:
We should feed every frame of Disney into AI art generators
Most people on Tumblr will immediately understand that I am not suggesting it as some sort of actual, workable long-term solution to the problem of independent artists' work being stolen
I am suggesting it as a goblin curse to make the lives of both the talentless artist-disrespecting AI art scumbags and the soulless corporate parasites at Disney very difficult and miserable, and people on Tumblr immediately get that
Posted the same thing to Twitter and I almost immediately got someone dissecting the tweet as "being indicative of how left-wing creatives will try to side with corporations when the subject of copyright comes up"
Twitter: The enemy of my enemy must be my friend.
Tumblr: The enemy of my enemy is a convenient patsy, and probably a chump.
Haters be like
“It’s totally possible to make a path that goes through every door exactly once”
Idk if I did it right
sorry!
it’s true you can’t draw one continuous line that would do the trick. but if the kitty and bunny set out by going through the doors they’re marked beside and each walked the certain way their colored arrows show at the same time their “collective path” as a team would go through each door only once. The moral of the story is actually about friendship , and cooperation, because in this world there are tasks you can’t do on your own.
im just fucking with you i’m pretty sure this has no right answer
i concocted a solution with a 100% mortality rate
Stop being so incredibly funny on my impossible puzzle post
You can switch the tracks so the trolley will kill one person, or you can allow it to attempt the fruitless crusade of running over each person in the maze only once.

TIL the reason this inconsistently shows up in notes for the same post is bc if you look at the notes from a reblog, replies from ppl blocked by the reblogger don’t show up but if you look at it from someone else like OP they do show up
huh, i wonder why this person has a problem with being blocked. im sure they have really normal ideas about bringing pets inside restaurants
