#he wants to bite shane SO BAD
yes im addicted to attention and orgasms and food and shiny jewlery and 7$ Iced Lattes. does that really not sound like an awesome lifestyle to you
you won't believe the weather we've been getting [remembers to avoid giving away my location] the sky was turned to darkness and the moon to blood, and the stars fell from the heavens.
Doxxing you
every since i was a little girl i knew i wanted to aimlessly wander a blighted landscape
my live reaction to this moment
I love you too. Oh my god, I love you so much. Does it fucking kill you too? Not anymore.
feeling Extremely Emotional about the first time yuna or david picks ilya up from the airport after he and shane are public so there's no need to hide that they know each other. like it's already enough when shane does it, but ilya has a modeling job or something the same weekend as shane and is getting back before him, and he gets a text from david asking what time he's landing, and he thinks it's just like. the classic hollander need to know details. so he tells him, and then david responds with something to the effect of "do you want me to bring you anything to eat with me?" and ilya is just ??? what?? so he straight up just sends a "?" in response and gets, "i know shane always hates eating on airplanes, and that's a long flight. do you want me to pick something up for you on the way so you don't have to wait?"
and ilya's like ?? i can just?? get an uber?? it's not a big deal?? and david's just "don't be silly."
and ilya's just?? i am not being silly??? i am maybe dreaming perhaps??? also i am maybe crying???
sorry can’t hangout tonight i have a garden in another dimension to tend to
the way Ruben’s less of a real person and more of a personified trauma response to toxic masculinity.
I’ve only seen a few minutes of Richard Gadd’s standup routine “monkey see monkey do”, but in those he talks about this “monkey” part of himself – a version of masculinity that’s brutal and hurts other people, but also a version that wants to protect the abused parts of him, and I do think Half Man is an extension of that scenario.
Whenever Niall explains to people that he and Ruben are “basically the same person”, he’s met with disbelief. But I do think it’s true. Ruben is that “masculine” part of Niall he feels he’s missing.
To a certain degree, after hanging around Ruben (= leaning into a stereotypical idea of masculinity), his life turns around for the better: He doesn’t get bullied anymore and gains strength and confidence.
But as their relationship progresses, we can see how disruptive Ruben’s presence really is, how many flaws there are in a person (= concept) that Niall has previously deemed as desirable.
Because we can also see that Ruben is the part of Niall that won’t let him talk about things, be it his queerness or his true feelings.
And Ruben being the personification of a deeply nonsensical concept explains why he’s constantly contradicting himself. “Does Niall Kennedy want to read some gay little books instead” vs “not man enough to kiss a bloke” five minutes later? Defending Niall, but hurting him even worse in the process?
Their relationship is so complicated because yes, Ruben is a deeply toxic influence on Niall. But as Richard Gadd has said in an interview – for something to be toxic, it has to be intoxicating first. And what’s more intoxicating than the power, the social standing, the strength that comes with society’s idea of masculinity (= Ruben).
They really ARE parts of one another and I’m so excited to see how all of it will play out
so grace is probably alarming to most eridians at first because he's a lanky wet alien with too few limbs, yes--but what if he ends up being terrifying in a sort of divine way instead of a repulsive one?
like. a creature that perceives the intangible? a creature that walks with thin permeable membranes bared to the air, whose blood contains elixir that can destroy pathogens without heat? a creature that is impossibly fragile yet resilient? a creature that breathes potently flammable gas to survive? a creature that is loud all over and speaks in a strange and frightening monotone, who thought it would die for you? who gave up its home in the heavens for you without meeting you first, whose first words to your people were probably something along the lines of We saved your star. It's gonna be okay. Don't be afraid.
grace is such an interesting bundle of contradictions! he breathes an incredibly flammable gas because he lives at such a cold temperature the gas can't ignite except he burns it very slowly inside the delicate gauzy cage of his body. his meat is basically a delicate water-and-protein foam because he lives in a very tiny fraction of normal atmospheric pressure. his planet has almost no air, no atmosphere. they're so gauzy, so frail, living underneath a whisker-fine sky, that to get to space in a couple seconds by exploding towards it. they can't build a space elevator because all their materials are just various attempts to do anything whatsoever with shitty frozen metals and various hydrocarbon meshes. their spaceship is a tiny refrigerator, the most expensive thing they ever built, and controled by a impossibly complex calculation engine they knitted out of silicates. it contains all human knowledge, if it doesn't catch on fire.
they knew that space was there because they can perceive it directly. it's literally right overhead all the time for their entire evolution. they know the faces of thousands, millions of stars, as soon as they tip their faces up. eridani is a name from two thousand years ago. all their stars have been named and known and watched and sung about for longer than any individual human civilization. they have always known the eridian star was there.
they live to be seventy.
