It's not just to have a "do over" that doesn't involve the original cast, it's to cut them out of the royalties. Literally the entire point is to make sure all the money made by Harry Potter goes to transphobes or people willing to work with transphobes.
If you watch it, you are supporting bigotry, hate, and oppression. That's just objective reality. All for a story that you probably have already seen in movie and book form.
#the last point is especially true since the old cast receives royalties for anything with their likeness on it#meaning the original trio still gets money for every mug with their 14 year old faces on it#if they stop making those and replace them with the new cast which they will the old cast gets cut off completely#which is again exactly what rowling wants because she cannot stand those 'ungrateful brats' as she would likely put it#and as she has last say in anything that gets made in harry potter paraphernalia this might also explain the decrease in faces on products

I hate Rowling so much.
Likewise, the new all-star audio books featuring people like Keira Knightley, Riz Ahmed, Michelle Gomez, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost and more, only seem to have happened because Stephen Fry - who did all the original audio books - said he thought she radicalised and "was a lost cause" (x)
I also wan't to stress how important it is you TELL people IRL why you will not be watching the show. Especially if they know you were a HP fan in the past. I literally had the conversation around the lunchroom table the other day and just said 'Yeah I don't fuck with Harry Potter any more', and that was enough to pique someone's interest, which started a conversation, and within two minutes three people who had no idea about any of this were educated and also were put off continuing to engage with anything HP related, one of whom was like me and previously a big fan for whom the original movies were the top of her comfort watch list.
Don't under estimate the people around you's ability to help make this tank. Getting the normies and less online involved is crucial to ensuring this is more broadly known in general society and not just something people of certain corners of the internet are aware of.

Whoa, new tumblr mobile update is amazing! My biggest gripe had been that it's super difficult to see replies in a sea of likes, let alone tag replies. Good job, staff!
Can we normalize trans/nonbinary people who donât change their name? Itâs about time we stop acting like every single trans person has to hate their birthname or get dysphoric from it. There are tons of different reasons why a trans person might not change their name and itâs really harmful to say they have to change it.
I really hate that pixel art is becoming associated with NFTs, pixel art rules
Maybe I should just make the opposite of an NFT, like I dunno, just a cute pixel art goblin anyone can right click+save for free and keep it forever and now it's theirs
You can put a hat on it too if you like
Iâm totally on board. Iâd like to propose a name for him: Nifty the Goblin.Â
I love it, I'll try to whip something up when I'm feeling inspired
...
...[BURSTS THROUGH THE WALL LIKE THE KOOL-AID MAN] HELLO, YES, HI, ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT CREATIVE COMMONS ART PROJECTS?!
...I mean, yeah, these sorts of opposite-of-NFTs Open Source Art things are something I dedicate a lot of brainspace to, and I actually have some suggestions!
Firstly, if you wanna do that, youâd probably want to use one of the organization Creative Commonsâ licenses, to make the âanyone can use/save/alter itâ official and legally binding, presumably one of their looser ones like CC-BY or CC0.
Secondly, honestly, this is a rad idea, something like Open Game Artâs various sprites but more as an art project than an assets thing, and i have an idea on how you could expand it further.
Basically: Fanpro but for Pixel Art. Which, for those who donât know, Fanpro is basically this pool of character designs people contributed to for a while, released totally and utterly under a CC0 license, for anyone to use how they see fit! Basically the exact opposite of NFTs!
It ha a successor in ComPro, but that kinda sputtered out, but one based around a specific theme like pixel art might be perfect! If only as an F-you to NFTs!
...But yeah, thatâs my two cents on that good idea.
Boosting this! The opposite of NFTs has existed for a long time, it's called open source and creative commons. And to add something, Kenney has recently released this little app called Creature Mixer to create little animated pixel art sprites: https://kenney.itch.io/creature-mixer It's free and it's terms of use forbid any use with any kind of NFTs for the sprites created with it.
so, with some thanks to the lovely people above and with no further aplomb âcause itâs just a goofy 16 by 16 pixel goblin, here goes:
Nifty is a little 16 by 16 pixel goblin whoâs yours to own and do whatever you wish to do with.
Licence: You can copy, modify and distribute this work, even for commercial projects, strictly excluding those relating to or containing non-fungible tokens (so-called "NFT") or blockchain (related) projects.
Iâve included a blown up 80 by 80 pixel version simply because I know from experience that Tumblr messes up small pixel art, but Iâve included a version in the original 16 by 16 resolution. While Sprytile is my pixel art software of choice, any image editor should do as long as long as it allows for turning off anti-aliasing, the bane of anyone whoâs worked with pixels.
anyway, thatâs enough pomp and circumstance for my silly little goblin powered by spite, although I do think it turned out pretty cute
I know nobody cares but I made a bunch of Niftyâs because heâs just so cute
I CARE HOLY SHIT THIS WHIPS
Shhh... sleepy
hi i love Nifty so i brought him into the physical realm
pattern:
OH i literally JUST finished my nifty piece today:
Itâs Nifty the goblin in a nice little forest home with a pet cat and some friendly ducks nearby. <3
people on this website be like âitâs actually schoolâs fault that i donât know how to read because i wanted to write my essay on the divergent trilogy and that BITCH mrs. clarkson made us study 1984 instead. anyway hereâs a 10 tweet thread of easily disproven misinformation about a 3 year old news story and btw, who is toni morrison?â
i KNOW most of yâall are lying about being in the gifted program as children because none of you could pass the basic reading comprehension assessment they give third graders today
this post is mean and I never read divergent or whatever the fuck but 1984 sucks and is rape apologism so if somebody wanted to write about divergent or whatever good for them
this reply is like literally exactly what op is talking about lol. like firstly ops point isnât â1984 is goodâ, ops point is that analysing complex stories teaches you how to form opinions and think for yourself. and like secondly in 1984 youâre supposed to think damn itâs fucked up that heâs thinking that way about her, i wonder if this ties in with the central theme of âa society like this will fuck you in the headâ? (this is the thinking for yourself part). like do you think orwell just put that in for fun? do you think that just because winston is the protagonist youâre supposed to agree with everything he does?
You know I feel like this post just gave me an epiphany for what is wrong with how Tumblr Fandom/Internet Fandom responds to media-or not *wrong* but makes it very hard to respond to anything but a morally correct, and heroic protagonist.Â
When an English teacher, or reader, taught or picked up 1984, it wasnât with the intention they were going to love the protagonist. They picked it up with the intention of reading a whole story and trying to grasp the theme or catharsis from the story. If the protagonist was a *shitty* person it played into the the themes or the story, because it wasnât about morally judging the book or *liking* or feeling attachment to the protagonist. Sometimes and often times, books were just about gaining another perspective.Â
No one read Lolita expecting to endear, or like, or be inspired by Humbert. You are supposed to be upset by his behavior, you donât read Lolita with the intention of being inspired. You read it to learn more about what the fuck is going on inside someoneâs head when they behave like that. How children get sucked into abusive situations. Or read âThe Great Gatsbyâ not because they want to fall in love with Gatsby or Nick, but to better understand and analyze the experience of the 1920s or destitution of the American Dream.Â
A lot of internet and fandom culture has changed that though. When we say something like âI love the Great Gatsbyâ it comes with the idea or association that means you must *love* or relate to one of the characters. And maybe you do, but the first assumption is not longer about the quality of the work or themes, or cathartic impact-itâs about character admiration. And with that character admiration, in tumblr stan culture, or kin culture, or exalting characters with fanart/romance/so on you donât just âadmireâ or find that character âcompellingâ it now translates to âyou LOVE that characterâ or you âDIRECTLY relate to that character.âÂ
You canât say âI love how Humbert is written, itâs so fascinating and darkâ, without it directly translating you somehow relate to a child abuser or condone his actions. Taking in media has become an act of worship and connection. We no longer watch meant to just see the story as a whole, we watch expecting to connect to a character and if we offer them our âworshipâ as itâs become, as opposed to just attention or interest study as it traditionally was, it means we are condoning the character or saying we directly empathize with all their actions.Â
I think thatâs why there is often now so much fuss over *toxic* characters or not. Or whether that classical novel is showing good or bad things anymore. Weâre treating the characters as people we should love or want to draw or write about. Sometimes a story is just about getting the the theme or catharsis or learning another perspective. We donât NEED to like the character. Or we donât HAVE to like a character to be impressed by how theyâre written or intrigued by their behavior.Â
I think if internet culture could learn to view stories as small insights into other lives or single takes of one perspective instead of purposeful moral inspirations weâd be a lot less worried about how toxic or not toxic they are.Â
Fandoms are honestly just really weird. I watched SU with a friend who isn't involved with fandom-type stuff on the internet at all, and they literally just enjoyed the show and never even criticized it. Like, idk, I actually forgot that that's how most people consume content, and I think I prefer it.
y e a h for real.
Thereâs such a joy to be found with deeply analyzing a piece of fiction, with finding a community of others who adore it equally, but⌠in my mind, thereâs also something to be said about watching a show in the most surface way possible simply because âooh, this is coolâ and thatâs it. Itâs⌠honestly kinda hard for me to turn off my analysis brain and do that most days, ahah. So itâs weird realizing that this is how most people in my day-to-day life interact with media.
Also, I think Fandom Culture online would improve if people stopped acting as if every piece of media needs to be this monumental, perfect, groundbreaking story. Especially when it comes to stories that feature queer representation. Like⌠sometimes you just want to watch brainless nonsense, yâknow?
Example. I really love this movie from the early 2000s called The Core. Is it a good movie? Hell no. Itâs absolute rubbish. Thereâs probably ten thousand things I could criticize about it if I ever felt in the mood to. But thereâs some really amusing lines, thereâs funky music, they crash land the space shuttle in the Los AngeLES RIVER, and the whole plot is funny as fuck because itâs literally âlol the Earthâs core stopped moving, guess we gotta drill down there and explode it with nukes to get it started again or we all die!!! :Dâ
This film is the definition of trash. But it makes me happy anyways, because sometimes I just wanna watch something and not think about it and vibe.
(Similarly, sometimes Cartoons tumblr worships for a little bit and then later decides is The Worst Thing Ever when the next show comes around are actually just really fun and intriguing storylines with an exciting will-she-wonât-she lesbian storyline at its core that may be a little too accelerated at the end, but is entertaining anyways. Sometimes stories fall apart when you analyze them too deeply. Sometimes the thematics of a story isnât meant to be looked at in the same way one would look at the thematics of another story. Thatâs fine. No two stories will be the same. Sometimes stories are just meant to be entertaining, and thatâs it.)
havenât drawn toh since the early days. much has changedâŚâŚâŚâŚ
