Music of the Batfamily

What song does each Batfamily member listen to and what song would be ringing in their head?

I really wanted to treat this as a thought exercise. Take into account their personal history, influence, story lines, and personalities.

Dick Grayson

- Given the fact that he is a gymnast, and lived in a circus, the first of the family would be listening to more international music beyond America. Since we don't really have much to go on for his taste, it's safe to assume that he would listen to whatever is catchy on the radio or in his recommended feeds

Ang Pinagmulan (IV of Spades) is from a band that's recent enough and international enough where he probably heard it from a friend. Given that Gotham is in New Jersey with a major Filipino population, he was bound to hear from this band.

The song deals with the feelings of being overwhelmed as if you're drowning. Looking for support and finding new beginnings. A perfect anecdote too Dick and his growth as Nightwing.

Barbara Gordon

-Barb's background as being surrounded by policemen and her general attitude and workaholic nature, makes it seem that she would prefer more melancholy music.

As Oracle she would probably listen to music that is more moody and instrumental heavy.

In Your Room (Depeche Mode) encapsulates that atmosphere. With great instrumentals that feel like you're concentrating more on the work then the music. probably something that she'll be humming the words to while typing code.

Jason Todd

-Jason's taste in music would probably be a trick question to most. In the comics when Jason was adopted by Bruce, he excelled in academics. He also has shown in postmodern and recent canon that he is an avid reader. He probably connects to music the most compared to the previous two family members. Seeking meaning in the lyrics and probably something cathartic within the artist.

The Bird (Anderson .Paak) whose title is both ironic and cathartic. Dealing with the hardship of his dual identity and personal journey would probably be very cerebral for Jason.

Tim Drake

-This was by far the easiest to think of, especially because he has actual evidence of his musical taste.

In the early days of his comics, there was a panel where Tim wore an Oasis T-shirt. Later, his friend Connor Kent looked through his CD collection containing the Depeche Mode and Enya, to his disgust. Finally during his OYL story arc he is shown singing lyrics of London Calling by The Clash, to Alfred's disgust.

Tim has a heavy influence of alternative rock and alternative music as a whole. Which was probably influenced by times.As his solo comic was during those times of popularity. It can probably be assumed and later retold as music he used to listen to with his family.

While those artists are good choices, I believe How Soon is Now (The Smiths) is a wonderful track that truly captures Tim's personality. Especially with the themes of isolation and seeking love from others. This also fits the mold of realm of music that he tends to listen to.

Cassandra Cain

- Cassandra personal journey can lead to one of two thoughts. She's either into instrumental or into music that others listen to.

Panels show her doing ballet movements mimicking other dancers, showing that deep connection to movement as a whole. On the other hand, there is major social influence from Tim, Stephanie, and Barbara.

Similar to Dick she would probably listen to more popular music whatever she can find and whatever you recommended. K-Pop with its higher visual style would probably connect with the most, especially the performance videos.

Gabriela (KATSEYE) and their performance music video, seems to be a perfect choice. Very recent when this is posted, very melodical tones and a pretty great dance that would probably entice Cassandra to try.

Stephanie Brown

- Since Stephanie time frame when she debuted is practically the same as Tim Drake's it's safe to assume that she may have musical tastes of that similar era.

Coming from a working class family, her mom a medical practitioner with substance abuse problems, Stephanie being pregnant as a teen,and dad problems. Music would probably be an outlet.

We also know that she is adept at playing the piano. Showing Tim at an instrument shop, though that music seems to be connected with personal trauma.

Punk Rock seems to be the perfect outlet, matching the time of her debut as a character, her ex-boyfriend Dean's very... problematic hairstyle, as well as the general outlet to vent her frustrations as a whole.

Death of Vannas (Refused) is a poetic way to vent her anger, dealing and coping with the chaos of her life. But also is the polar opposite of Cassandra's and Tim's taste in music.

Damian Wayne

Damian Wayne loves Black Canary's music

This is more than enough evidence. Also there is a Black Canary EP that came out years ago that was sponsored by DC comics in 2016.

"Fish Out of Water" is something I would think would be his favorite track.

Cassandra Cain Best Post-Flashpoint Series.

Cassandra Cain's newest comic series is one of her best. Gone are all the things holding back all the potential she had as a lead character.

No unusual character choices to bring her back into the spotlight

Actual agency for the character

Acknowledgment of previous storylines and actions.

Actual direction for the character

Tim Drake and Stephanie Brown are now the odd ones out since 2011 to not have an consistent storyline that did not fall back on needless BS.

From her interactions with Asian American enclaves to the character development of her mother Lady Shiva. She has been finally given her chance after how many years in limbo.

Tim/Damian Brotherhood Evolves Once More

DC comics has finally remembered that Tim Drake has had relatively the most normal teen upbringing outside of superheroes and of course Damian would want the one expert on how to navigate teenage life and romance. Especially one that he's the most comfortable with.

I might have my major qualms with the poor writing the past couple years and even on this issue for Tim Drake, but a wins and win.

Tim Drake and Gentrification

I think a more glaring issue that became dated on Red Robin was the unusual choice Tim Drake makes converting the old theater into a premium housing to have his hideout.

I get the idea, trying to make his own mark and the writers and artists establishing him as a solo hero. But it's obvious in the background that his house is in the middle of a working class area.

What's supposed to be this fun little piece of character work after a decade becomes this sort of dated idea of evolving the character. Not thinking the idea through, makes him look like a true rich a-hole.

Damian Wayne: DC's Shonen Protagonist. Confused by the Masses

Beyond Tumblr places like Instagram, YouTube, Reddit, and more have lost a plot of Damian Wayne.

Just like Tumblr having their own fanon ideas of him, it seems those other places have the same problem.

Tumblr, obviously the easy understanding of our perspective is going straight to the Wayne Family Adventures webtoon. As most of the characterization is straight from Tumblr since 2012.

On Instagram, Damian perceived as a glorified Naruto figure, where he's able to beat anybody and everybody. It's mostly stems from kids who grew up with the New 52 inspired DC animated movies (DCAMU).

On Reddit, when discourse is not given, Damian It's seen as a Messiah figure. Seen as the absolute best of all the Robin's and deserving to be superior to all of them. And while other posts have pushback, it's obvious that it's the same biased mindset as every other subreddit has on their favorite character.

YouTube is an unusual one. With people on YouTube having the problem solving skills of an infant, Damian is seen as a divisive character. On one side his portrayal it Injustice alone has garnered him eternal hate from DC fans on YouTube. On the other hand, DCAMU strikes again garnering him this undeserved appeal. With many of the people discussing never really referencing any sort of material besides the video games in the in the movies.

Because of this James Gunn rides a razors edge with how he needs to adapt Damian Wayne proper. So many ideas, but never really realizing the whole picture of the character.

Batfamily Action Style: Girls with Guns

While the likes of Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman are great for female empowerment and the fun spectacle of Harley Quinn and Black Widow are fun I have found myself disappointed with how the action is lackluster compared to their male counterparts. Even the more street level heros like Colleen Wing and Elektra have rather average fight scenes even though they are part of the supporting cast of the best Martial Artists in the MCU. While their fights are good they can be better. With the Batfamily finally coming to live action what can be improved?

So what source of media can the female members of the Batfamily be inspired by?

An old genre from the golden age of Hong Kong Action Cinema is the key to really capture what they can do. The Girls with Guns subgenre. Yes Madam is a 1985 martial arts film starring Karate Champion Cynthia Rothrock and current mega star Michelle Yeoh. It is considered the first movie of this kind and kicked off this type of story. Female action stars kicking ass and taking names just as well as any of the well known male actors.

If you want to see what a Cassandra Cain/Stephanie Brown scene would look like in a fight watch this movie.

But these were not the only women defining this subgenre. Moon Lee, Cynthia Khan, Yukari Oshima and more were stars as well.

Sadly though by the 90s the subgenre died out along with the golden era of Hong Kong Cinema. A mixture of corruption due to the Triads being involved in the Hong Kong film industry, the rise of mainland Chinese movies, and the slow reunification of Hong Kong back into the Chinese government from British ownership were 3 major reasons this era died out. Combine this with the Hong Kong financial crisis due to the reunification, other competition from different Asian countries, and major American movies like Jurassic Park coming out led to the death Hong Kong 80s cinema. While luckily it recovered and made a resurgence through reimagining and artistic direction it was never the same again.

Essentially too many hands and factors controlling the industry.

The Girls with Guns subgenre sadly fell to obscurity in western audiences eyes. Never really making a splash in pop culture compared to other kung fu movies. However echos of their works can be felt since its fall in the mids 1990s. In Japan Anime was echoing the style of action. The best shows you may know is Black Lagoon and Ghost in the Shell .

While there is no correlation with the subgenre effecting other action movies in other Asia countries they have grown similar waves a female lead martial arts action. In 2008 ,Thailand had a short lived action star of Jeeja Yanin from her internationally acclaimed movie Chocolate. In 2013 in Indonesia the Raid 2 had amazing action scenes for their mute villian Hammer Girl played by Julie Estelle. Vietnam in 2019 gained similar fame for their movie Furie. It even got its own prequel directed by the first movie's main star Veronica Ngo. Finally in South Korea, while it was having its Renaissance in its film industry along came the film The Villianess. While more action oriented it was so good that John Wick 3 had to steal a scene from it.

With characters like Cassandra Cain, Lady Shiva , Black Canary and more street level heros possibly making an appearence in live action, Hollywood might as well pull out all the stops for these badass women. If they do,they might want to look outward for inspiration.

Batfamily Action Style: What’s Good or Bad

 As stated in the previous post there are many highs and lows for Superhero action. But what should be the current standard? Captain America’s super human agility or Daredevil's brutal fantasy? Suicide Squad’s bombastic action or Shang-Chi’s buttery smoothness?

The first element to first throw out before all of this is the overly CGI quick cut crap.

        It's obvious when the effects houses are being overworked when their works are not as impressive. Even with all the new technology now it means nothing if you are treating them like dogs or even worse don't know how the process of visual effects work.

       The other reason now is the quick cut edit of action. What was a stylistic choice for The Bourne Identity is now a crutch for shooting fights scenes as fast and cheap as possible. From Batman Begins to Black Widow what was suppose to be a way to emphasize intensity and speed is a confused mess that might as well give the audience seizures.

     There are many ways to incorporate CGI in a action scene as there are many ways to use the shakey cam and quick edits of modern action. But it must be a utility not a crutch.

 So, what can be considered the standard for Superhero action? How will this involve the Batfamily.

        While I can focus on that genre as a whole we will be looking at the Vigilante style action that the Batfamily is known for. The Batfamily is made of members who are world class martial artists, Olympic level athletes, and master stealth experts.

    Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, Ben Affleck's Batman and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil’s are the three best examples for how their action should be depicted.

 --The use of Hong Kong Action influence in Shang-Chi’s cinematography allows us to SEE most the action. Allowing for creative fight scenes and fun stunts.

-- The intimacy and brutality of Daredevil shows the extent of how much it takes to beat a man’s face in. Batman villains range from muggers to super assassins, to not show our hero hurt physically is just disingenuous

. --Finally Ben Affleck’s Batman shows the general example of how the Batfamily operates. Fast,efficent and theatrical. They use psycological warfare just as much as physical action. 

These are the standards by which I am wish to hold by for the Batfamily.

Batfamily Action Style.

         Action in media can truly define character, story and setting. In superhero media it is heavily reliant on this genre. From high spectacle action to emotional driven arcs, the very nature of this form of storytelling has been rather useful in superhero media. Heavy uses of CGI for assistance along with the quick cutting nature of western media might be the standard at the moment. But it could be better.

Its AAPI month, and as a member of that community I’d like to use Asian action movies to help understand how to improve on the future Batfamily coming to the DCU. As well as introduce you guys to some of my favorite martial arts movies.

Batfam Fancast Part 15: Birds of Prey

Barbara Gordon's close friends and personal squad of vigilantes, this group of mostly women are the premiere team when its comes to kicking ass and taking names. Similar to Charlie's Angels,Barbara as Oracle commanded the team to stop crime of all types. We'll be fancasting Black Canary, Huntress,Batwoman, and Lady Blackhawk.

Quick Recap we have Jane Levy as Barbara Gordon , Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Cassandra Cain, and Jacqueline Scislowski as Stephanie Brown.

While Cass and Steph are techinically not part of the Birds of Prey it would make sense to bring them into the fold. Allowing for extra character interactions. The fact is that these young women would have other more experienced women in their field to help teach them, especially if your mentor works with them often.

Huntress

Helena is the super serious badass of the group compared to the level headed Dinah and comedy relief of Zinda. As time goes on she learns to play nice and even appreciate being part of the team.

Just like my post about Jason its time to finalize my choice for Helena Bertenelli. Surprisingly neither of my original choices have been chosen. From Suzie Crabgrass in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide to Rosita in The Walking Dead Christian Serratos has been all over the spectrum of television. The 32 year old actress has done it all and seen it all. Drama, action, horror, comedy, even sparkly vampires. Her experience and skill as an actress has Huntress written all over her.

Lady Blackhawk

Now we are getting into the lore that I bet not even most comicbook gurus would remember. The Blackhawks are a World War II era organization consisting of the world's greatest aviators fighting the Axis Powers along with other superpowered threats. (Now read this section in a 1930s radio voice)

Due to some time displaced shit during a mission Zinda Blake known as Lady Blackhawk finds herself in the modern world. Needing to adjust and find herself she joins the Birds of Prey, even suggesting to Barbara to call the team that. An ace pilot and sharpshooter, she does most if the pilot work for the Birds. Zinda can also hold her own in a fight hand to hand.

She plays a key role as the cooler of the group,as well as order beer in 30 languages, a woman after my heart. Honestly she's just a sassy and cooler MCU Bucky Barnes when you think about it. While everyone else is doing Kung Fu she will Kung Fu your face with a shotgun blast. Rambunctious and Brave , just like her time in the military she is a ride or die for her friends.

To really fit into this vigilante group, I questioned whether to keep her as a time displaced character or as a completely new character. Instead of her being a World War II era Aviator, instead becomes a descendant of the famous pilots. The idea in general is for the Blackhawks to still be a major paramilitary organization, working independently from any government or superpower. In the comics the Blackhawks become a international shipping company kniwns as Blackhawks inc. which she owns 1/8 of the company. I like to combined that idea with the paramilitary idea. Blackhawks inc. is a front for the Blackhawks organization to work internationally without any interruptions.

So the idea goes that Zinda is the youngest pilot and most talented agent of their organization, she inherited her stake in the company from her grandfather, a former Blackhawk, as well as her father a former Naval pilot. A former Air Force veteran herself she struggled with the restrictions and weight the company and her family name brought and soon found herself isolated socially from her more older agents. This isolation eventually led her to be recruited into the Bird of Prey which metaphorically allowed her to spread her wings.

"Great googly moogly Batman! He's typecasting!" Indeed I am! Ironically another actor in this franchise was typecasting for another Aviator centered film. From the Good Cop, and her breakout role in Top Gun Maverick Monica Barbaro is absolutely perfect for this role. Already working crime procedural comedy and the action masterpiece that is the Top Gun sequel she fits this role like a glove.

Batwoman

From character assassinations, terrible story arcs, all around butchering of character concept and continuity, The New 52 might have temporarily increased Comic Book Sales, however it butchered and outright erased multiple popular comic book characters. Though through all the thick and thin of terrible writing was small group of characters that were able to get great stories out of that terrible era. Kate Kane aka Batwoman are one of the first major LGBT+ character in DC and flourished during the New 52.

Daughter to Colonel Jacob Kane and cousin to Bruce Wayne her life was changed when her twin sister and mother were kidnapped, when her father raided the area her mother was killed and sister supposedly killed and was never found. Leaning on her father now more than ever she found herself seeking career in the US Army. She eventually made it to West Point as an incoming freshman. Sadly an anonymous tip accused her of homosexual conduct, her commanding officer asked her to disavow the claim, but as a woman of honor and to uphold the Honor Code of the Academy she will not lie. This sadly forced her out of West Point. While her father was supportive of her coming out, the action of her being forced out a West Point led her to a heavy partying lifestyle when she went to college. Later she defends herself against a mugger and encounters Batman. Inspired by the event she trains with her father and eventually becomes Batwoman.

I felt a need to talk about this character due to the fact that the CW's Batwoman is not the best representation of the character. Feeling too much like another Batman ripoff then the genuine original character from the comics.

In the Birds of Prey I designate her as the team Bruiser. While she is technically the least experienced of all the vigilantes she's willing to throw hands with anybody and everybody. Sort of the opposite of Batman and showing how the Birds and Batgirls the more experienced heros. Think Matt Damon in Ocean's 11,a bit if a rookie but definitely can stand with the big leagues.

For Kate Kane I needed someone with a chip on their shoulder, something to prove. Evan Rachel Wood was my only choice for this role. As the lead in Westworld and a whole laundry list of television and movie roles she feels like the perfect candidate for this Gotham defender.

Black Canary

While Oracle commands the Birds of Prey, the weight of leading the team out in the field goes to Black Canary aka Dinah Lance.Cunning and commanding,she is a skilled fighter that can keep up with the likes of Batman and impress the likes of Lady Shiva who wishes to challange her. But while she is a great hero her origin story are as various and muddled as her Arrowverse portrayal. There is Dinah Drake the original WW2 era Justice Society member, Dinah Laurel Lance Daughter of Dinah (Now pronounced Diana) Drake-Lance member of the Justice League and New 52 Dinah Drake- Lance? Experiment turned government led Leader of Team 7 and divorced punk rock star? Then in Rebirth reverts the origin to its original but her and Slade still team up for some reason? Its all confusing so I'm just going to fuse it into a cohesive story.

Dinah Laurel Lance (Die-Nah) is the granddaughter of Dinah Drake-Lance (Diana) a meta human and the first Black Canary or just Canary, Dinah Drake is a founding member of the Justice Society. Years later after the JS disbandment due to government mandates she is recruited into a government lead Black Ops team known as Team 7. Other well known team members are a young Slade Wilson and future husband Kurt Lance. She retires and divorces Kurt Lance and lives a quiet life as a singer she dreamed to be, afterward having a daughter Diana Lance (Yes I'll confuse you even more) and granddaughter Dinah.

Decades later Dinah Laurel Lance grows up and develops the same metahuman abilities and has to train under her grandmother. Dinah Drake dies of cancer and Dinah at 17 is inspired to go into music creating a punk rock band known as the "The Canaries". The band never hits it big and disbands but has a cult following. This to the fact the masked lead singer dubbed the "Black Canary" was seen fighting crime whenever they were on tour. During her time in the band she was also presuing a degree in psychology eventually earning her degree at 27 (Added some Young Justice lore).

She moves to Star City and develops a romantic relationship with Green Arrow, Oliver Queen. While their love was about 4 years strong they have a falling out when she learned how Oliver treated their ward Roy Harper when they learned he was a drug addict. With Roy leaving after that she breaks up with Ollie and eventually found herself in Gotham meeting Barbara as Batgirl. They become close friends to the point where when Barbara becomes paralyzed she's there to help her recover. A year and repaired Ollie relationship later, Barbara now Oracle creates the Birds of Prey and recruit Dinah as her first member and team leader.

I could have easily gone with the obvious actors for this role, Winnick a popular fancast or even stay with Smollet. But I'm going in a different direction.I didn't want to go with that really well-known actress and wanted someone to really bring in that brawler aesthetic that Black Canary brings. Jessica McNamee is an Austrailian actress best known in America for the USA Network show Sirens or more recently as Sonya Blade in the Mortal Kombat 2021 movie. The very movie where she had to keep up with likes of Lewis Tan, Max Huang and Ludi Lin. While the action was not the best the potential is there, she had a amazing rough fight scene against Kano that really emphazied her toughness. I have the confidence to say this Aussie actor has the potential for this bird.

Batfam Fancast Part 14: Outlaws

Its been a while since I made this Tumblr and wondered if I should finalized some older fancast I made. Specifically Jason Todd who a made a list of actors instead of choosing 1. So I thought it would be a nice idea to finalize who gets to play Jason Todd while casting two of his teammates in the Outlaws, Roy Harper aka Speedy/Arsenal/Red Arrow and Artemis of Bana-Mighdall (Still don't know how to pronounce that).

Jason Todd

Its time to finalize the fancast I made years ago. No need to really elaborate since I talked about this before, Alex Landi has become my final choice for Jason Todd. The Korean-Italian American has the build, the looks and with his current work in Grey's Anotomy, I definetly think he has the potential for the former Boy Wonder.

Roy Harper

For Green Arrow's own protege I wanted someone who can bring that same rugged energy that Jason Todd brought.someone who's been though stuff but is able to overcome their personal challenges. The actor must be old enough where its possible they became a parent when he was a teen.His daughter Lian Harper is a extremely important character in his story and sadly became an afterthought when they rebooted him in 2011 during the New 52.

Jake Austin Walker is 25, fits the look of the character and has worked in a previous DC project Stargirl.This actor just might have what it takes to play the Crimson Archer.

Artemis of Bana-Mighdall

The mysterious Artemis, no not the one from Young Justice. A fellow Amazon of the Bana-Mighdall tribe,who traveled to ancient Egypt from Greece, she is the apex warrior without the need of godly powers like Wonder Woman. Before her reappearance in Rebirth she was once a major side character that eventually took on the role of Wonder Woman. Practical, stubborn and passionate she found herself in the company of the Red Hood and reformed the Outlaws with him and even forming a romantic connection with him. He loved the kind of woman that will actually kill him.

Adria Arjona is known for a plethora of roles in major shows like Andor and actions movies such as 6 Underground. While not popularly known for any major action her time as a drama actor will bring depth and layers to this action-oriented character. While I originally considered casting wrestlers to play this role, it will be like rolling dice and most of the time you're going to lose. For every Dave Bautista there is Rock can only play himself or a John Cena who really needs the right director to help him out. Adria however has the skill and experience to perform this character, give her some intense stunt training and she has the potential to ace this role.

Batfam Fancast Part 13: The Al Ghuls

Oh baby my first request! @callmekohaii asked and they shall recieve.

The eternal Al Ghuls. Ra's,Talia,Dusan,Nyssa and Damian. For centuries this family has affected the world in more ways then we will ever know. Integral to the League of Assassins this family are known to be pompous and pretentious aristocrats. So who will be these immortal individuals?

Before we go any further we do have a major conflict to resolve. That problem is the ethnicity of the family. When potrayed before they had rather problematic castings, however the very concept of these characters are problematic in of themselves. Being Middle Eastern aristocratic type people that create conflict based on personal extremist ideals. Similar to the Drake family I have to be careful with how I elaborate and edit on these characters stories and must be thoughtful with how I want to portray these characters without stepping on anyone's toes.

I also have to remember to cast people that aren't completely Americanized, unlike most of the Batfamily who are all east coast American besides Alfred. Actors who are of Middle Eastern or Asian descent seem to be my best bet and have some actors be mixed as well.

Ra's Al Ghul

The leader of the League of Assassins, the Demon's Head, Grandpappy Stabby Stab. The figurehead of the family, Ra's Al Ghul is a legendary DC character, a well-known Batman villain that can keep up with the likes of Batman. Obsessed with destroying the world to remake in his own image he will do anything and everything for his goals, but still hold himself to degree of honor. However he is hypocritical holding onto old ideals that won't have him accept more liberal ideas. He still respects people of similar status though. Even seeing the like Bruce Wayne and Tim Drake as potential successors. Yet still forgoes someone like his Son or Daughters as successors no matter their enthusiasm for it.

There is only one actor that can covers all the things needed for this character and has been with him for over a decade. Oded Fehr has been voicing Ra's Al Ghul for Young Justice since 2011. He is 52 years old, has experience with action thanks to the Mummy movies and is Israeli. He is by far the best choice for this mastermind.

Nyssa Raatko

Nyssa Raatko also known as Nyssa al Ghul is the oldest known daughter of Ra's and half-sister to Talia. She was born early 18th and disassociates herself from her father sometime in the early 20th century. She has lived through WW2, her family she had were victims of the Nazis concentration camps. Even when she begged for help her father did nothing leaving her there. This left her spiteful and out for revenge.

Unlike canon a major change I'm going to make is the WW2 backstory, instead of a Nazi Concentration Camp, It's a Japanese prison in the Philippines. They tried to escape to the Philippines till the war spread there, her husband and sons dying after the "Bataan Death March" and Nyssa becoming one of the many women who are victims of the Japanese, becoming a Comfort Woman. Her evolution post WW2 however is to have her path of vengeance though violence changed into kindness... with violence. Using the generations of wealth she had acquired she becomes an icon of peace to the public, helping third world countries develop, using her sect of League Assassins to kill whoever stops her development, no matter their morals or even compassionate actions. She accidently becomes the very thing she wished to not associate with.

For Nyssa I need an actress who is most likely more mixed compared to Ra's, living in Southeast Asia. She doesn't have to be white and has to be active enough to do some to little fighting.

Elodie Yung is the only actress I thought of. She's the only half asian actress with martial arts training and enough experience in both action and acting. You might remember her as Elektra in Daredevil and as the main character in The Cleaning Lady.

Dusan Al Ghul

The tragic Dusan Al Ghul son of Ra's Al Ghul. A disappointment to his father's eyes he would do anything for his respect, even rising through the ranks under the guise of the White Ghost. He also albino for some reason. I think instead of him being Albino I want to emphasize him being an unintended child. Using those old ideals the Al Ghul's follow he is a bastard in his eyes, it's not just Ra's Al Ghul but the whole family that shuns him.Think Jon Snow or Gendry from Game of Thrones. Decades of longing lead to Dusan's obsessive drive for his family's love.

Joe Taslim has been nothing but delight finding international stardom thanks to The Raid:Redemption and later the HBO/Cinemax show Warrior. Staring in one of the best contemporary action films and martial arts drama, he is perfect to play this bastard son.

Talia Al Ghul

Daughter of the Demon and Mother to Damian, she is a main stay when it come to the Al Ghuls, a master manipulator like her father she later commanded the organization known as Leviathan. From villain to ally, then back to villain it's hard to say where her true loyalty will stand. She sees her methods as absolute and only the most stubborn of personalities could ever change her mind. Not even her own son persuade her, even willing to kill her own son for her own ambitions.

Many of the castings are rather difficult, yet this was a rather easy character to make. Known for her work in the show The Boys and as the character Farah Karim in Call of Duty Claudia Doumit is a Austrailian actress of Lebenese descent. Her prolific filmography has shown she is more than capable of playing this popular anti villain.

Damian Wayne

The newest Robin and biological son of Batman Damian Wayne is DC current wannabe shonen protaganist. He's a great character when writers remember that League of Assassin training means nothing when you fight beside the people who beat them constantly.

Brutal, short-tempered, and looking to be accepted, his assassin upbringing has left many holes in his ability to socialize in modern society. Unable to relate to anybody besides the more upscale aristocratic part of the world. He wishes to grow up so fast only to forget that growing up is part of the process. A major change I want to address is his upbringing, I want to emphasize the brutally conservative nature of the League of Assassins and the cycle of abuse his family continues to use. By embracing his father's side of the family he learns to forge his own identity and unlike many writers right now, learns that he does not want to be Batman and luckily has Brothers willing to carry that weight for him.

Another major character dynamic I want to switch is between Tim Drake and Dick Grayson. I want the antagonistic nature between him and Tim to go from rivals to family, with Tim filling in as the Big Brother role. Dick being the oldest needs to fill the mentor role, especially since he is the Batman to his Robin. By Dick having the more begrudging frenemy nature allows for them to grow as master and student. Think of Damian as Ahsoka Tano with Tim and Dick as Anakin and Obi-Wan during the Clone Wars. Damian grows on you as a character while the other two are more established and likable.You can even fit Drake and Josh on here with Damian as Megan.

Boy have I seen some terrible fancast for this boi. Like I hate all of them, why you casting 20 something you heathens? IMDB, Google, the damn Disney Channel. Can you not find 1 non white child actor? Gordon Cormier is a 13 year old Filipino Canadian actor who is going to play Aang in the Avatar The Last Airbender live action adaption. He is the only actor who can fit all the criteria that I have put for this character. I have scoured the globe and no one in his age bracket will work besides him. If this young man can play Aang, he can play Damian Wayne.

Batfam Fancast Part 12: Reboot

Ever since the News of James Gunn rebooting/Soft Rebooting the DCEU, who is to take on the cape and cowl. In this scenario I'd simply make it so that Flashpoint recasts Batman and Alfred without any major story change in this hypothetical universe. But who is to become the new Batman and Alfred Pennyworth?

Rebirth Alfred

Let start with Alfred. As said before a lot of British Actors fit the role well. We someone well kept, sophisticated, witty. I was about to use Timothy Dalton,but he was in Doom Patrol, I then went with Pierce Brosnan, then he was in Shazam.

Someone in his 60s. Don't want him to die midway through a trilogy. Let's emphasize a mixture of this character's past by him being both in the Royal Marines as a medic and a well versed stage actor. This eventually led me to Liam Cunningham. You guys might know him as the Onion Knight Davos in Game of Thrones or the horror classic Dog Soldiers.His more grounded nature and rugged looks will do well to differentiate him from actors like Michael Caine and Jeremy Irons.

Rebirth Batman

For the Caped Crusader he is once again a difficult character cast. But boy do I have an idea. Mid 30s early 40s, someone classically handsome. Fatherly yet suave. Certified DILF energy.....yes I said that. Lets back away from the tragic Affleck, gothic Patterson and grounded Bale and go back to basics.

We need someone who can play multiple personalities in character. Luckily he played Batman before.Grimm actor David Giuntoli is 42 years old , 6ft , and has the looks of classical hollywood actor like Alan Alda. I'm going for a more Chip/Bruno Redondo/Jason Fabok Batman. Best of all the contemporary Batmen put together. Strong yet agile, brutal yet gentle. We also want to make sure he still looks like he can be a dad. I am also emphasizing the separation of his identities, almost emulating the Animated Series Batman. Luckily David has voice Batman in an animated movie playing a disco era Batman.

Batfam Fancast Part Eleven: Journalists

For the next fancasts here comes the resident dirtbags of journalism Jack Ryder and Vicki Vale. Oh what a pair they make, sometimes similar to the maverick Lois Lane when their scoops line up with morals, most of the time they are as scummy as any Fox Newcaster.

Jack Ryder

The Harvey Levin of Gotham City , Ryder is a infamous journalist. Anything for a scoop even to the detriment of himself and the people around him. He is brash self absorbed and will do anything to get his way.

Behind his ego though is meta human with Deathstroke levels of enhancements. He is known as the creeper. Sometimes a ally of the Batfamily sometimes just a nut job.

In my canon I see him having a personality disorder similar to Two-Face but acts more like a werewolf. Certain triggers must be met for the Creeper to come out. Once it is met he mutates into Him and wreaks whatever havok the being choses. The creepers takes from Jim Carrey's The Mask but in a more practical and comical sense. Never really hurting anybody besides criminals. Though before his predicimemt gets worse he seeks the help of the Batman and goes to Arkham Asylum to find a way to helo himself. He soon finds that the Creeper are repressed memories that have personified in a new identity and that his meta gene is activated when he transforms hence the powers. Once reconciling with his past, the Creeper persona disappears and his meta gene becomes inactive.He soon retires from his job and seeks more honest journalism.

So who is the perfect Canidate for Jack Ryder? Someone crude but likable, jocky, egotistical.I found non-other than Billy Crudup seems to fit the role. Already known as Dr.Manhattan in the adaptian of Watchmen he has done a large palette full of roles and is shown to be a skilled actor. He can bring the creep factor to this creepy journalist.

Vicki Vale

Gothams own version of Lois Lane. This hard boiled reporter is a staple within Batman lore. Featured in all of its forms of media.

Its honestly hard to describe her as she is a very cookie cutter character. Just a generic reporter who has the same drive as the typical DC main character journalist .

I do find it interesting as how during her appearence in Red Robin, she is slowly unraveling the Batfamily secret identites only to be side tracked by both Alfred when she visits the manor and Tamara Fox saying she is engaged to Tim Drake.

For the most part casting Vicki Vale was as easy as pie. An actress in her 40s who can harness the more nosey hardass type of character. Rashida Jones is 46 and a pretty great fit for the role. Characters she played tend to roll with the punches while still focused on their goals. She has this story handled.

Batfam Fancast Part 10: Some Villains

I wanna go a little easy for this one and fancast some easy picks for some of the Post-Batman villains that have plauged Gotham. Two-Face, Hush, and Bane

Harvey Dent (Two-Face)

The duality of man personified, Harvey Dent is a former district attorney turn super villain due to a mental breakdown and attempted assault on his life. His layers have layers in terms of chatacter depth. It is almost impossible to find a bad version of two-face. Even at his most cheesiest he is almost always potrayed by greats actors.

For a blueprint the recent animated adaptian of The Long Halloween is a great example for a more authentic Harvey Dent. So much pressure on him that he eventually broke spliting his absolute sense of justice in two.

He was fancasted and even offered the role for Batman , Jon Hamm is the best choice for Harvey Dent. You only need to see Mad Men to see how perfect he is for a man with two identities battling in his mind. Older than Ben Affleck, giving the classical New York business look, he is perfect.

Hush

The sociopathic surgeon, Thomas Elliot was once Bruce Wayne's oldest friend, behind the scenes he has nothing but hatred for him.

Coming from a rich background and abusive household which slowly turn the boy into a sociopath, Thomas was a Genius at a young age .Wanting freedom from his life, he tried to murder his own parents cutting the brakes on my car, it was sadly foiled by Bruce Wayne's father who saved his mother. His ever growing hatred for his former friend increased when his parents died.

When he was older he killed his mother after disowning him and gained his family fortune. Similar to Bruce he travelled the world, went to Harvard and became a renowned surgeon.

Eventually he learned Batman's identity from the Riddler and soon sought revenge against Wayne donning the alias Hush.

For his casting I chose Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett, a skilled actor close in age to Ben Affleck, they had a good chemistry in Pearl Harbor together and Josh's previous work and similar build to Ben gives him the edge over others.

Bane

The man who broke the bat,Son of King Snake ,Bane is a unstoppable force who rivals Batman in many ways. Growing up in a prison ,he honed his mind, body and skills during his time there. He dreamed of a bat creature and soon had a fear of them. Batman was his fear personified.

He soon found his way to Gotham and made a name for himself. He achieved what few others could. Breaking Batman physically and mentally. A feat few others have rivaled.

A slight change to his canon is that his father is not King Snake but is in fact his brother. Mostly cause I casted Scott Adkins for King Snake and is younger than bane's actor.

For the actor of Bane, Dave Bautista is perfect for the role. From Blade Runner, to an Ip Man spin off , to Dune, the Filipino -American has a crazy career in Hollywood and beyond. His acting range towers over every other wrestler turn actor .Not to mention his giant size (6,4), WWE and MMA background just makes him more suited for the role.
