As much as I love writing fic, fanfic is not invulnerable to the damage of mass production. Even when writers are not tied to companies, they're still writing in the thic of social media, so they tend to comform to certain trends and readers tend to fall into the same blind consuming as Netflix. Fanfic being homemade food actually takes an enourmous amount of effort from the writers and from the readers
