Sometime between the events of episode 1 and 4 Svetlana slept with Ilya for the last time and I do sometimes wonder how she feels about that. For years she has been his closest friend, the person who knows him better than anyone else, and she has always been allowed a physical intimacy with him that one day was just gone. She probably didn’t know the last time was the last time. And then in ep. 5, she’s not thinking of herself. She’s still there for Ilya and isn’t resentful to him, isn’t blaming him, isn’t going to let him feel bad for what he can’t help at all. She gives him permission to be closer to someone else than he is to her, to love someone more than her. I do wonder about that. Sometimes.

the fact that jean knew next to nothing about bryson but took one look at jeremy’s face and decided something had to be done about him is wild. the fact that he stood up calmly and yet waited for jeremy to react again, heard the panic in his voice, and acted, is telling.

“it is my place to assess and handle threats against you” is like the absolute best way of saying “I’ll protect you” that I’ve ever read.

and I know we all lost our minds over this scene because of what jean goes and does and APPROPRIATELY SO, but like…

I almost never see anyone talk about the fact that this is the first time jean has a protective instinct towards jeremy. and instead of something like “I’ll go talk to him” or “I’ll make him leave” . . . . .

nora really had jean pretty much go “cat, hold my monopoly money. I don’t want to get blood on it.” and then he went and THREW A MOTHERFUCKER OFF THE PORCH. and then held him against the windshield because bryson was too stupid to stay put. choked him.

again we all lost our ever-loving minds and squealed and screamed because HOW COULD YOU NOT? but nora set a wild standard for people everywhere because this was jean’s first time protecting jeremy and look at how extremely he reacted. raven or not, damn.

nothing. NOTHING. prepares you for neil fucking josten. the monsters take him to columbia bc andrew doesn't trust him and all his secrets and lies. they drug neil against his will to make him talk and his solution is to tip a busboy 100 dollars in cash to knock him out. at this point he's blackout high as all hell and the most he's given away were several creative death threats. he wakes up in an unfamiliar bed in an unfamiliar house and his immediate first response is violence. he throws an alarm clock and an empty water glass at aaron. the second he's presented with the opportunity to escape, he wiggles out the window of a bathroom. "desperation is a valuable lubricant". he calls matt and casually doesn't mention the fact that he's stranded with no way back to palmetto other than walking. instead, he hitchhikes all the way back. he comes up with a list of convincing enough interview questions to pass as a sociology student and hitch a ride with truck drivers. he SUCCESSFULLY does this and spends the entire time asking and answering questions he makes up on the spot and taking notes to make it look legit. he does all of this while hungover. no one knows where he is during this entire trip back. he could have asked to be picked up at literally any moment and matt or wymack would've done it in a heartbeat. he genuinely did not consider this as a viable option. truly the character of all time i love him so much.
