Here's a change of pace: the backs of some of my embroidery pieces! Do you recognize any of these from the posts they were on?

Hey quick question: why the FUCK do you have that
Imagine, from out of nowhere, your dm casually slapping this thing down on the table like any other encounter.

I’m sorry my lovelies but the reason you hate yourself is because you treat you like shit. If you came up to me and then told me I was a fuck up who could never do anything right I'd fucking hate you too.
if you didn't let me go to bed until after midnight because you'd rather watch Netflix than let me rest, and then got mad at me for not being productive the next day I'd be PISSED
You keep calling me a fatass but you tell other overweight people they’re beautiful? Why do you keep shitting on MY weight, then?
Oh? It’s different if it’s me? Wow fuck you too
Love is a verb! Self love isn’t a warm fuzzy feeling, it is compassion and action in support of yourself!
And yes, this includes having compassion for the bully in your head. Unfortunately that part is also you and deserves as much of your understanding as the rest of you.

I’m kinda surprised that nalbinding isn’t as popular as crochet and knitting tbh because it has an even lower barrier of entry tools wise and unlike crochet and knitting it makes fabric that you can cut.
I guess it’s because it’s slower or something.
Nalbinding aka needle binding is when you use yarn and a big sewing needle to make fabric btw
It also has a lot of different kinds of stitches you can do that make different densities of fabric.
Some people even make rugs.
I feel like part of it might be casual people are generally aware of the existence of crochet and knitting, even if they don’t know very much about either, but have never heard of nalbinding
Yeah I hadn’t heard of it until recently and I ordered a big bone needle for myself to try it out and that should be arriving soon.
I was surprised that I’d never heard of it though. It’s older than knitting and crocheting and even though it’s been done all over the world it’s super relevant to Nordic culture and my grandmother and I are both into keeping in touch with our roots a bit so I’m surprised I’ve never heard of it.
It seems like the sort of thing that would be popular even if not as popular as crocheting and knitting, considering the low barrier of entry.
You also don’t need a bunch of different sized needles for nalbinding or whatever. The size of the stitch is controlled either completely freehand or by pulling it against one of your fingers. Most people who have a lot of nalbinding needles seem to either have tried out wood, bone, and metal ones to see which kind they liked or they enjoy carving wood or bone and like making their own needles as an extra hobby.
It’s also a lot easier to freehand and adjust as you go than crochet or knitting and you mostly go by inches instead of rows and number of stitches so a large number of accessories like stitch markers or whatever isn’t really necessary.
Maybe the lack of accessories also makes it unpopular idk. People do like collecting things in their nests.
I've been wanting to do so, I cannot find anyone who can teach me, and any books I can find on it are Ass in the Visual Learning department. Otherwise I'd be making the hell outta some nalbinded fabric
I found this channel by a nice man who makes up close tutorials
I create videos on YouTube to learn people how to needlebind using two fingers and your thumb. Needlebinding helps people to relax, relieve
I thought this would be kind of a niche post to make but I was quickly reminded that I’m on tumblr, the website full of gay people with one billion hobbies.

i love knitting socks and it does bother me when people tell me they are too beautiful to wear bc like. that is the point. im spending time making this thing to keep your feet warm and protected. yes my knitting is art but its also practical. yes it may wear out or rip but its a sock! they are meant to do that. all fabric wears out eventually and id rather someone wear holes in the objects i make and then throw them out when they are not useful as socks anymore then have them sit behind glass on display
your self destruction doesn't have to be self harm to be real and worth caring about. self harm is very specifically causing yourself physical harm on purpose. if your self destructive habit isn't causing yourself physical harm on purpose, it's not self harm. you can discuss the emotional hurt caused by opening up your ex's texts without calling it something it's not.
Tell me your worst crafting bad habit.
And I'm not talking normal stuff like being overly ambition, or lack of planning, not finishings
Tell me the stupid stuff.
I'll go first: I keep working with size 11 and size 15 seed beads in bed. And find them in my sheets when I'm trying to sleep
This is mine I think

something something extremely sexy when magic users resort to physical violence. yeah i have the power of god and anime on my side but i also have THESE HANDS. i cast Punch You In The Face. i take my magic staff through which i channel the vast energies of the elements and the cosmos and i cast Severe Concussion And Skull Fracture. casting time for xenoglossy too long, chose the quicker route of Stab You In The Throat.
Imagine, if you will, you are sitting in the car with a kindly old woman. Faintly you hear the unmistakable first few drum beats of Down With The Sickness by Disturbed over the car's radio. Before you have a chance to wonder why this is playing in an old woman's car she cranks it up, slams on the gas and does the "OOO AH-AH-AH-AH!" with her full chest. Life changing experience.
She sang the entire song, word-for-word, while using her steering wheel and dashboard as drums, which she also nailed with startling precision.
We were doing like 60 and she somehow performed a flawless u-turn without slowing down even slightly. 🏎
I loved this old lady with all of my heart, you should know.
me, wearing nothing but a sheer plunge-neck ballgown that’s plastered to my skin from the rain, soaking wet and trembling with cold and fatigue as i stand outside the entrance to the castle: p-please help me ;) i’m s-so lost and s-scared ;) ;) i have no where to stay for the night ;) ;) ;)
the sexy vampire lady who answered the door, and to whom the castle belongs: of course ;) you poor thing ;) ;) come inside, you must be freezing… you may stay as long as you need to recover from your ordeal ;) ;) ;)
You walked up to that house in the rain on purpose
the fuck else would I be sloshing around in a wet ballgown for

I've seen a couple of comparisons of Obsession to A.ang's attitude towards Katara, but there's an older, more interesting comparison I keep thinking of in relation to kata.ang: 500 Days of Summer. The story itself (as interpreted by much of the audience, at least, but we'll get there) is, much like Obsession, about how unfair and unromantic the whole "guy meets girl, decides she's his Forever Girl in spite of knowing almost nothing about her, decides he's entitled to a relationship" trope actually is for the woman. It may be the most thorough deconstruction I've ever seen of the romance storyline of the Nice Guy with the soft romantic heart who deserves his dream girl, even though she plays hard to get, and so he's eventually rewarded for his relentless pursuit.
The more I think about it, the more I think that Tom and A.ang do have essentially the same dating strategy (I think more than A.ang and Bear, who really only acts on his crush with the assistance of a magic wish). Compare how Tom uses a combination of pity, erosion, lashing out, and outright cornering her to convince Summer to date him, with A.ang's pursuit of Katara in season 3. Compare Summer talking about how she can't give Tom the love and commitment that he's demanding to Katara telling A.ang that she's confused and now isn't the right time. Compare Tom and A.ang ignoring what Summer and Katara tell them because it's not what they want to hear. Compare Tom's rose-colored idealization of Summer, and the way he lashes out at her when she doesn't live up to that idealization, to A.ang's daydreams about Katara and the way a switch flips in his treatment of her when she says or does something that his Forever Girl wouldn't say or do.
Compare the scene where Summer is talking about herself while Tom zones out and starts daydreaming about how how he's totally gonna be the guy to win her love instead of actually getting to know her, with the fact that we see three solid seasons of A.ang pining after Katara but, in however many one-on-one scenes of them having meaningful private conversations (always about A.ang), not once does he actually ask her about her hopes or dreams or fears, or anything about herself, really. I still don't know what precisely A.ang liked about Katara other than...she's there.
Now, in the end, ATLA plays out like wish fulfillment: the girl finally stops playing hard to get, settles for the writer's self-insert Nice Guy hero, and they supposedly live happily ever after.
The really interesting difference that makes 500 Days of Summer a more intriguing comparison than Obsession (in my mind) is that it's semi-autobiographical, so Summer's response to Tom isn't dictated purely by the writer's wish fulfillment fantasies. In the real world, the guy got the girl, and then...the girl finally had enough of dating a guy that centered their relationship around his entitlement to his dream girl and fulfilling his fantasies of True Love with zero input from her. So she dumps his ass.
And then within a year, Summer is married to a guy who walked up to her and asked her about the book she was reading. Hmm. I wonder if there was anyone in ATLA who took time out of his schedule to seek out and learn about who Katara is and what's important to her?
Here's the best video breakdown I could find, both of the movie itself, and even more interestingly, the evidence that Tom is a blatant self-insert for the screenwriter. It takes you through the mechanics of the story, and then shows how the screenwriter of 500 Days of Summer wrote a semi-autobiographical screenplay based his own experience of his dream girl breaking his heart. He was then shocked that the director, actors, and audience interpreted it very differently than he intended.
I found the clip from the commentary where the director and actor are discussing Tom's selfish and possessive ideas of love, and the screenwriter pushes back and tries to position Tom as some noble romantic hero for trying to "win" the girl, to be particularly brutal.
It's truly a fascinating case study in how a writer can come up with a very compelling and meaningful story, filled with interesting and fleshed-out characters, and still fundamentally misunderstand what he's created. It's a case study in how the audience can see things in a story that the writer can't, that the writer didn't ever intend, that the writer rejects, and how the audience is right to see those things (especially if the writer is not being honest with himself about what he's writing and why).
Of course, it sounds like the writer of 500 Days of Summer eventually saw the light and stopped defending his self-insert as a Nice Guy who deserves his Forever Girl. If only Bryke could do the same :/
